Genuinely one of the coolest ways to be put to rest, actively gives back to the world and allows for your family to visit something actually alive and not just a stone with a name
Edit: I meant to say, you’re giving back to the world in a more visible way. Obviously if you’re buried you still give back to the Earth, it just feels more poetic with a tree rather than just a headstone

I forget where I saw this, but I struggled with where to bury my dog when he finally goes. He’s only 8, but years ago I stumbled on a poem written in the early 1900’s for a newspaper. A child reader asked “where’s the best place to bury a dog?” & he in summery replied in a long poem that “the best place to bury a dog is in your heart & to lay him in the dirt under a fruit tree.” Birds eat the seeds. Seeds are spread further. It’s like the dog saw the world even in its afterlife. Beautiful thing I wanted to share.

And gravestones deteriorate in less than 100 years and end up being completely ruined and forgotten...its a sad sight. I feel like i should mention that trees roots don't only go straight down, alot of trees can branch out horizontally several times larger than the trees canopy, and those roots connect with nearby trees to communicate and share nutrients. If you have a cemetary full of these your tree would be connected with the other trees around, and they would all continue sharing and nourishing eachother throughout their lives.

@@novavoltaris2198 it definitely has the potential to take up more space but you could still pack them as densely as you would a traditional cemetery as long as you plant sections of trees while they're still young. Then the roots would be able to naturally grow around the other roots. You would probably have to plant most of them in close succession so you can fill the area before the the trees have time to root. Trees will naturally root vertically if there is obstructions that prevent the root from growing horizontally. If you did small sections that way with open walkways between each section I'm sure it could be made an efficient alternative. Also take into consideration that each casket takes anywhere from 6-10 feet of space due to the people being laid down, in this method the person would be in the fetal position only taking up a couple feet. There's a chance this might even be capable of being more efficient with space than a traditional cemetery.

At my school there’s this girl who died four years ago and I think this happened to her, her grave is at my school and she had a bunch of rocks that had paint on them and lots of flowers, and there’s this big tree. I’m glad she didn’t have to be under a rock with her name on it.❤
