  • I unbox my Roots and Branches Hand crank mill, that I purchased on Amazon, to see just how easy it is to assemble and use. If your electricity goes out you can still mill your wheat berries with a hand crank mill. Milling your own flour is a great way to get the minerals and vitamins your body needs and as a bonus wheat berries last indefinitely if stored properly. Let's find out together if this mill was worth the money!

Hi! My name is Kim. This year my family has decided to throw out all the conventional ways of easy cooking and convenience foods. We are moving towards a new way of life..more holistic, with whole foods, all organic, and home grown garden produce. Better food, better health, better life! I know it is going to be more planning and hard work...but what we eat is the most important thing that we do all day. Food is medicine or it is poison. I want to serve medicine to my family. Join us as we embark on this new journey. It will be full of progress and mistakes, as we try new things such as tinctures, salves, fermentations, canning, homesteading, gardening, and so much more. ❤️

Kim the coarse grind can be used to make a hot "cream of wheat" type cereal or used on breads like the cracked wheat. You can also coarse grind enough that you can store a cannister in the freezer until you want to grind flour. That should cut down on the effort to make flour from whole wheat berries.

Saving, Saving and Saving+ Saving 🥵 for a particular more expensive manual mill but I think as an " in the meantime" we'll get one of these smaller mills as a safety measure. Today in April 2024 the farm report is not giving a good outlook for future grain and wheat. Great video thanks for sharing.

With some nice whole grain flour, rye is good, but whole grain in necessary for a good culture, you can start a sourdough by adding 25 grams of flour with 25 grams of water to a container at room temp every day and then twice a day, then use some to leaven bread. It's way better than baking soda. I rather eat tortillas.

I have this very mill but branded by Back-to-Basics. I use the very coarse setting to crack the wheat to use for breakfast cereal. Takes time but does the job.

What is the little plastic piece for? Seems to go where the handle connects
