You guys should do a stress test between a ugly stick vs a googan rod.

Ugly stick would definitely win. Ugly sticks will bend in half but have 0 sensitivity lol
I have a Googan goto and an ugly stick. Landed a 38in bull red on goto and 42in bull on the ugly. I enjoy them both.

The ugly stick would win my friend payed for Jon b parking pass and Jon gave him a googan rod and he put it in his car and accidentally rolled the window up and it broke it and I have slammed my old ugly stick in doors and the bed of my truck and it’s still perfect but the googan rods are nice I have one and I love it it’s so nice

I caught a 7lb 4oz with that same exact pole. The problem is you was trying to catch that fish like you had a big bait cast. Gotta be patient and let it run some. Just hold on and let her take you for a bit then slowly get her in.
You’re right, but he knows what he needed to do, but that wouldn’t have been any fun on film. Exaggerating made it more “exciting”
Ive bought ugly sticks in a pinch before and they've outlasted ALL of my "good" rods. I have an ugly stick ice rod with a 3000 size penn reel on it and ive landed shit you wouldn't believe unless you were there. I have 40lb braid on it too. I never doubt ugly sticks. They come with trash reels but if you pair the rod with a good reel then youre good. Ive caught grouper over 40in that had my rod BENT. I use that setup mostly for pond hoping because around here all the ponds have tarpon.
Here in Oz the equivalent of this challenge would see you going to Kmart and buying a Jarvis Walker junior combo. Probably a Recruit Junior. 5ft 2-piece spinning combo with 110yd of 6lb mono and a small spinning reel. Line class: 2-4kg and a cast weight: 5-20g. $13AU or about $7-10AU on clearance. I own several lol. I'll pretend it's because I have kids/grandkids.
Bass are nice and all, but (here I go upsetting the Americans and I'm sorry for that) they're over-rated. If you want a challenge for that rig, take it out in the saltwater. (yes, yes I know bass are THE sportsfish for you guys, but here in Oz we have barramundi and Murray Cod, both of which make the biggest LMB look like a toy)
I caught several 5 lb bass on the slingshots. It’s very possible, you’re just fishing that rod like you got 30lb test on it. The rod was fine it’s the line that’s the main issue. Why are you slamming it like that? Lol totally unnecessary

I do have 3 brand new googan rods and a shit ton of baits, tshirts and hats but I will never get rid of my 2 zebco 1970s era poles with reels and carrying cases. 13 years ago I was offered $60 each and I am pretty sure they were $10 new. I caught a 9 pound catfish on one of them. Was dragged down the bank, fell on my ass and the zebco held up like a champ. LoL 😊 ahhhhh memories

When i got back into fishing, i had a slingshot spinning rod from wallmart, and i have caught a 5 pound bass and 2, 4 pound catfish with it before i upgraded

That slingshot rod is nice shooting docks. Get a good spinning reel and pop the bell back, grab the bend of the hook pull back and load the rod aim and let the hook go and then let the line go and shoot your lure under the dock. Kinda like a bow and arrow.
