It was really cool of you to shout out Nick's services. It's crazy how many people like him have been a part of incredible records but don't necessarily see a significant surge in clients or prestige despite that. Thanks for making content like this and inspiring me to expand my music career as well. Thanks a lot 💗🫡
This video is the kind of content of the future. Although I came in to hopefully learn something new for music production, I genuinely am in awe with the overall video production. I believe you have the personality and skills to feature on any mainstream platform like Netflix and easily chart in the top 5 best documentaries once released. You my friend are on a path to not only appeal to musicians and producers but to any music lover out there. An instant like and subscribe from me! Looking forward to discovering your other videos and following your journey. Sending much success vibes from the Great White North.
man, this has to be the best video you did so far. everything from storytelling to visuals to facts to sounds is just spot on. also the shoutouts to nick to accomplish his influence and how simple things matter to projects like that album. and the final outcome is amazing, that cover comes so close that it's scary. (you should sing more often!)
I loved your Phoebe Bridgers video when you first released. And to my surprise, I wasn’t subscribed. So you just got one today. BI is easily my favorite band on this planet. And to see this incredible analysis of the production process is awesome. Seeing videos like this gives me more confidence in my own production and composition skills. Great work! EDIT: I also saw your rear bus reel. And I tried it, but I did it as dual mono with GREAT effect. So thanks again!!
I’ve been with you since your college mic review days (which I did enjoy). I remember you feeling like it was a big risk to change up your content , but honestly this is pure gold! I’m so happy you took that risk. So much of RUclips is product focused, but this is so much more valuable for me. Love it ❤️. Hope you’re still enjoying it too! This must be an insane amount of work to piece together
Yeah thanks dude!! I liked reviews, but it wasn't what I set out to do and this honors what I'm trying to accomplish so much better. And thank you for sticking around for so long my friend!

Last year I started sound production & mixing a bit seriously and your channel is my top 1 in the whole of YT. Thank you so much for being so honest and vulnerable about your work 🌿🌿🌿
I have always deeply resonated with Bon Iver’s music, this album in particular. He is one of my biggest inspirations in how I write and produce my music. I have been searching for while trying to figure out how he got all of the raw background sounds and made his songs sound so intimate. This video is an absolute goldmine. You truly are such an incredibly gifted producer, and I’m so grateful that you are willing to take the time to share your knowledge with people, when many producers keep it secret. These videos help so many home producers and musicians who don’t have access to a bunch of fancy equipment to make great music and I can’t thank you enough for it. I can’t wait to use these techniques in my own music. Thank you
Hello! I'm writing from Mendoza, Argentina. I don't know how to tell you how much and on what different levels your videos have helped me (and will help me), from your charisma, your way of transmitting, your passion for sound, music, production and mixing. Simply thank you, I'm joining your patreon right now. Keep it up, greetings.
Just wanted to say that even though your channel is not the most exuberant one, it’s one of my favorites. Always super thrilled when you release a video. What a pleasure to have long, in depth videos where you take time to dive deep into what makes the sound of an artist, while still keeping this slow, chill vibe, it’s always a great moment to watch them. I really like that you don’t say « oh no gear isn’t important », in front of 15000$ worth of equipment, but embrace the 57’drumstick aesthetic, or the handheld mics on the interview. I always come back to your channel, to me one of the most interesting and inspiring ! Take care !
I love how these videos make me appreciate and fall in love with the songs that are being recreated so much more. The dedication to getting it right makes the recreation so amazing. Gave me shivers listening to the song.
Yeah dude... I love your videos. I am such a big Bon Iver fan too and I thought you got this so close at times I couldn't tell the difference (specially on vocals, WOW). You do such a great job at maintaining a channel that strikes the perfect balance between information, education, and art. Keep it up. We can wait whatever amount of time each video takes. You do the Internet a good service.
this is really the most useful and inspirational video i’ve ever seen as an artist and you absolutely killed the final product, vocals and everything. i was not expecting that. thank you
Can’t tell you how much I love these kinds of videos. Truly art and not just content. I live in NC & today I passed through Carrboro today for work. Small world. Thanks so much, this answered so many questions and gave me some serious artistic encouragement and ideas!
What it's incredible about this chanel is not just the amazing recording quality o how deep you go to collect all the data you can, it's the pasion you show in every video. Keep up the good work man.
The mix/unmixed comparison on this track in particular is really striking imo. It's so evident how simple the mixing can be when you get the sounds right at the source and are willing to highlight the natural artistry in raw recordings. I love how you specifically pointed out how little reverb is on almost every instrument. To me, that's what makes this track feel so hollow even though its so full. It would be so easy to put a big room verb on everything here but the rawness and dryness of everything is what makes it so powerful.
So true!!! I point that out in the mix breakdown on Patreon too, I tried really hard to get the sounds right at the source so that mixing was just polish this time around.
Those first 2 minutes show the extreme depth that this DOCUMENTARY (it’s got to be considered that) is about to go into. As a Bon Iver fan and a fellow musician and engineer finding inspiration from JV since ‘08 - wow, respect. Purely amazing work here!
@@AudioHaze You're most welcome! :) Been trying Bon Iver a few times over the years and it never hit me like others in the genre. But now it looks like it´s the right time. And regardless, your video is super interesting. I also listened to your better half´s songs last night. Beautiful voice!
Dude. Wow. This is one of the best things I've seen on RUclips, period. I'm so impressed, thank you so much for the insane levels of research and production quality. You worked hard, I'm sure it'll pay off.
I had to wait until this weekend to finish the video because of work! But, man was it worth the wait. Thank you so much, this was an amazing video and I loved how you mentioned embracing the imperfections of our recordings. I guess a perfect recording is the least perfect of them all. And yes, the video absolutely delivered!!
Thank god my RUclips feed showed this video. Perfect way to spend 40 mins. Never before I heard Bon Iver, thanks for the introduction. Brilliant content.

Thank you so much for this video. Had the song stuck in my head since I saw on Instagram that you're making this video. All this is gold. My two main takeaways: 1) embrace the imperfections 2) keep it simple in the mixing/recording!
Absolutely! Definitely with the mixing, I tried really hard to ge the sound right at the source this time around and work minimally in the software, a lesson learned from the one and only Garth Richardson
Man your channel is honestly a treasure for every music producer down in this world. The passion you put on those and the way you present your journey in the searching of a sound you love is fantastic and so inspiring. Thanks you so much !
I didn't realize you were from Carrboro. I grew up in Durham, NC, and have been living here again since 2020. I was in Carrboro seeing a show just the other night. I always feel a kinship to musicians from this area. Playing at Chapel Hill and Carrboro venues in the '90s, which most people will say was the peak era for the local scene, was such a big part of my teenage experience. Amazing video, btw. It went so much deeper and told so much more of an interesting narrative of discovery than I was ever expecting.
That’s actually genius. Imagine 6 different version of yourself singing at the same time in the same room, but at different spots around the mic. I never thought about it that way until I saw your visual. Neat recording trick. Might have to try out different patterns. VERY cool.
Incerdible video, havent even heard the album 😂 Your attention to detail, effort, and respect you have for the people involved and the process is inspiring. Thank you 😊
That recreation is SPOT ON. And your research into his sound and techniques is fascinating. This video and the Rage video are both so well made. Looking forward to seeing/hearing you tackle more tunes. ✌
The vocals are seriously insane! I don’t really know how your singing voice usually sounds, but that is a freaking spot on recreation of Justin’s style 👍🏻

man i swear to god i hear a awful ground noise in his mic signal
I've been a Bon Iver superfan from the very beginning and I've listened to and played his music myself more than probably most other fans and your chorus sounds sooo close to the original on the "only love is all maroon", it's uncanny! Kudos dude!
2 views in 37 seconds. smh bro fell off
hahahaha
Damn, it’s one of the most wholesome /realistic videos I’ve seen in a long time, this is really the reason why I want to start learning guitar, an absolute bomb of intimate emotions you shared here man. So insanely passionate about music. The way you express yourself to the world, but most importantly to yourself is amazing. I’m truly speechless.
Sending much success vibes from the Great White North.
so cool, as both a music fan and recording geek i highly honor your advices, documentaries and recording show cases! cheers to that, buddy!
man, this has to be the best video you did so far. everything from storytelling to visuals to facts to sounds is just spot on.
also the shoutouts to nick to accomplish his influence and how simple things matter to projects like that album.
and the final outcome is amazing, that cover comes so close that it's scary.
This whole video feels very cathartic. I love the exploration, both physical and technical. Much love 😊
Thank you so much! Never had my videos called cathartic before but i didn’t know how much I’d like hearing it 😂
I’ve been with you since your college mic review days (which I did enjoy).
And thank you for sticking around for so long my friend!
i have just started getting into bon iver's music and love how raw it sounds, and stumbling into this video as a musician myself is delightful! you got a new subscriber
Last year I started sound production & mixing a bit seriously and your channel is my top 1 in the whole of YT. Thank you so much for being so honest and vulnerable about your work 🌿🌿🌿
BIGGG respect the extensive research, and efforts put behind the scenes for this video to come to life is absolutely insaneeee!
Thanks so much dude wow this is too kind! I try and ride that line between production video and essay :)
this is really the most useful and inspirational video i’ve ever seen as an artist and you absolutely killed the final product, vocals and everything. i was not expecting that. thank you
Can’t tell you how much I love these kinds of videos. Truly art and not just content.
I live in NC & today I passed through Carrboro today for work. Small world.
Thanks so much, this answered so many questions and gave me some serious artistic encouragement and ideas!
dude i’m blown away by your production on this channel. I’m learning so much and i can’t thank you enough.
Delivered is an understatement. You put together such an incredible video, and your recreation of flume blew me away.
Thank you so much!
Thank you for one of the most interesting and coolest RUclips videos ever made.
WOW omg thank you that’s incredibly nice of you to say!!!
@@AudioHaze You're most welcome! :) Been trying Bon Iver a few times over the years and it never hit me like others in the genre. But now it looks like it´s the right time. And regardless, your video is super interesting. I also listened to your better half´s songs last night. Beautiful voice!
this might be one of the most insightful and helpful videos on Bon Iver sound ever
when you started playing your version, my eyes became all teary. amazing video, research and dedication, just amazing. congratulations man
Dude. Wow. This is one of the best things I've seen on RUclips, period. I'm so impressed, thank you so much for the insane levels of research and production quality. You worked hard, I'm sure it'll pay off.
the vocals on this are immaculate, loved this whole video sm
Man, this is one of the coolest yt videos I've seen in ages. Mad respect and appreciation for the art you share !!
Brilliant content.
incredible. the level of passion, dedication, and attention to detail in your videos is astonishing. you are the batman of the music production community. so inspiring and informative.
that is pure gold. thank you for making all of those videos concise and to the point. your videos popped up on my feed and its like watching a new episode of your favorite tv show. love it.
You are such a legend for doing this, you definitely delivered. Well done on the final mix of "Flume," sounded great.
Man your channel is honestly a treasure for every music producer down in this world. The passion you put on those and the way you present your journey in the searching of a sound you love is fantastic and so inspiring. Thanks you so much !
Absolutely incredible video man. Your storytelling is so on point. Thanks for making it
I didn't realize you were from Carrboro.
VERY cool.
Really appreciate your professional delivery and research - thanks for sharing your wisdom and insights!
Incerdible video, havent even heard the album 😂
Your attention to detail, effort, and respect you have for the people involved and the process is inspiring.
Thank you 😊
That recreation is SPOT ON.
Love watching these videos dude! I’ve listened to this album so much, that the rattling ebow sound is like one of those deeply embedded musical memories. So cool to see how it was made
This is an incredible video. I can’t imagine how much work it is, know it’s a treasure for fans of yours that are also bon iver fans! That album carried me through some dark times.
