  • The Yamaha Reface CP is the electric piano of the Reface bunch. It takes inspiration from the CP-30, CP70 and CP-80.
    As a reissue of a Yamaha classic, the Yamaha Reface CP has a long lineage dating back to the 1970’s. According to Yamaha the “CP Series stage pianos were designed to be amplified so they could hold their own when played in a band together with electric guitar and bass. Although both belonging to the same series, the CP-30 and the CP-70 introduced at this time were very different under the hood.”

    Every once in a while a keyboard manufacturer creates a classic. This little Yamaha CP reface was sprinkled with magic dust because it is such a cool little thing.

    The "bark" you hear is the amp simulation. Turn the drive up and flick those keys with velocity. It will bark more. I own this piano and it's great. This doesn't have as many paramters to edit as the CP4 (strike position, envelope, etc) but of course that's another league. You'd be surprised what you can bang out with just these 3-octave mini keys!

      Alan Chapman hey, good comment. Can u kindly read my (sorry it's long) comments above and tell me what u can. I really want to buy this and use as my primary keyboard for now for reasons I mention above. Thx!

    Thank you so much for this video, in my opinion it’s the best review of the Yamaha CP on YT for the time in understandable speak for the most people.

      @@googlepigs7027 Turn the tone selector knob between two sounds. (It’s a little tricky to get it to stay between wo it moving to one sound or the other), but once it does stay ‘floated’ in between, turn off then turn on the keyboard. Viola!! A beautiful CfsIII Grand piano!

    I would love to see this same keyboard with one more octave and full size keys.

      U can just get a pretty good midi controller keyboard. The reface CP has 128 note polyphony

      I don't know why I keep seeing this comment- the quality of instrument in THIS super compact, portable form factor (that even runs on batteries) is the whole point. And the thing that no one else has done better. There's plenty good full size EPs out there- this doesn't need to be that..

      Trak Lite - Yeah, me too. Also, I would like to turn off the CP pianos when I input another keyboard sound, like when I run the Korg Module app through my iPad. Still, this is a versatile keyboard with good sound, affects and speakers. The digital delay is a lot of fun to experiment with.

    Does the octave switch click into octaves or is it smooth switch? So does it mean you’d have to get the octave switch perfect on the markers or else it’ll be flat.

    Please please reply! Thx & sorry for the length. Ok, Awesome video! Hoping you or someone reading can tell me what I need (if anything besides a mic) to get the volume loud enough to make videos on a computer (mine is a mac air), offline or especially online using something like Bandhub (an online site for musicians to collaborate as online bands). The speakers are 2W & not sure if this video had the reface attached to something to improve sound (I think he said he had an interface but to what?). I also saw his mic. If u plug into computer, will it recognize it across apps as input? I make my videos various ways with my computer, no extra camera. Also, does it really need a sustain pedal with all the adjustments possible using the knobs? Seems not, unless u want more control. Can it be recognized by apps like garage band? For live gigs, no doubt u need an amp, but do u need one to improve sound & make loud enough for making music videos if u have a good mic (I'm a singer first & have mics). Due to a medical matter, I currently need something small enough to use even in bed & cant lift or maneuver even a 61 key keyboard (pathetic for former power lifter!), but wish this had one more octave, but that's life ..so, is the slider to change octaves while playing awkward? This guy was great but noticed his hands sometimes slipped to the adjacent key, but I have very small hands, but am used to a real piano. Still, the touch sensitively seems really nice. Also, has anyone used Yamaha's Bluetooth connector to have multiple devices connected? I'm mostly concerned abt sound for music videos made on my computer & what connections (specific cords, devices) I might need or if a good mic will suffice & btw, do I need to be connected to soundmondo or a Yamaha app via any device to use it? If so, can I have it in the background & multitask? If u answer & comment on whatever u can, I promise to follow u!!!!!!! Thank you so much! Rock on!

    • @theycallmejpj
      @theycallmejpj 7 лет назад

      hi suzie, the CP does not transmit sound over USB, so you would need to connect the audio out or headphone out to a audio interface. I use a digital 4 track

    • @joonks7373
      @joonks7373 7 лет назад

      For the Reface to be recognised by your mac you only need to connect via USB...This will allow you to control Midi/VST (virtual) instruments.
      But if you want to record the Audio from the Reface onto your Mac you will need an
      'Audio Interface' to connect the Audio Output of the Reface to The input of the Audio Interface.
      However if your recording via a microphone and only need to amplify the sound of the reface. Then all you need is an amp and some speakers or speakers with amps built in aka Active speakers/monitors.
      Goodluck!

    4:32 "these are not samples"....." Technology in the inside that's modelling this stuff" LOL! Of course they're samples-there's NO "mechanical mechanism" like a real Fender Rhodes or Wurlitzer.

    • @Bboytechreport
      @Bboytechreport  5 лет назад +5

      Its been a while since i did this review. I dont think I referenced any mechanical anything inside of it. I think my point was just to emphasize the bark and realism considering it is NOT a real EP with mechanical parts inside making the sounds. Be easy. thanks for watchin.

    • @anthuaizaba3100
      @anthuaizaba3100 5 лет назад +7

      It is modelling
      Like on the roland digital pianos
      I think that's what he wanted to say
      He never mentioned any mechanism

    • @OttosTheName
      @OttosTheName 4 года назад +1

      It's a combination of samples and 'physical modeling' that Yamaha calls Spectral Component Modeling and that's also why it sounds better than most other keyboards that cost twice as much. As he said, it's not just getting louder, it's also getting that bark when you play harder. Doing this with samples would require a load of samples for just 1 note. It's much cheaper to just give them a beefier CPU and emulate what's going on than to put in gigs of storage.

    • @lawabidingcitizen5153
      @lawabidingcitizen5153 4 года назад

      Modelling can be digital, FM synthesis, for example, is just a type of synthesis which can emulate some real sounds rather well by using frequency modulation, some algorithms and some parametres... Digital, but not sampling...

    • @karlhaese7183
      @karlhaese7183 4 года назад +1

      Those are samples-in fact multisamples. I have a Suitcase 88 Fender Rhodes and there's no other way to achieve this amount of authenticity WITHOUT samples! I even multisampled my FR on my Roland Fantom X-6 and it sounds just like this...........................just saying
