Senator Murphy just did a little two-step and danced around the issue. Why would anybody not want more protection for our children?
Cruz. Simple answer. He takes millions from the NRA and gun manufacturers, misrepresents the empirical data on safety improvements from time, manner, place restrictions on guns. Free speech is the paramount right in the Bill of Rights according to scholars of all political stripes, without question paramount to owning guns. We recognize time, manner, place restrictions on free speech, yet any restriction of any kind that would decrease the number of assault weapons on the street is "futile, unproductive, and an assault on the Constitution." Funny. I grew up with shotguns and 22 rifles and deer rifles and 45 pistols, and continue to own those guns as an adult and hunt whenever I can. But like the editors of Field and Stream magazine, the sportsman's magazine I grew up with , I support common sense restrictions on gun ownership. Cruz's solution after Uvalde was that schools should only have one door. Hmm. So the shooter can kill fish in a barrel? So schools have to violate the fire code? The more straightforward answer is that guns are sacrosanct because the NRA owns the Ted Cruzes of our country. Other proposed legislation has tried to increase funding for cops and mental health counselors that Cruz and the other vultures defeated because common sense gun refor was also in those other bills. It's Cruz who refuses "to do his job."

I think addressing bullying would be huge. Reaching out to the kids that don't fit in. Even the teachers often look the other way when these kids are mistreated. I think real action for these kids would make a huge difference. I also think that would should be spending money on metal detectors, surveillance systems, and private security for our schools. We can use cops but don't use school duty as a way to put an old cop out to pasture. Give the best cops to the schools. Get the cops involved in stoping bullying or the security. We are giving billions to Ukraine, surely we can afford to make schools safe.

Ted Cruz is a media whore and a social media troll and a failure as a legislator, which is why he has so much free time to perform dramatic monologues for his RUclips fans.
Unanimous consent is used most often for resolutions, typically to state the opinion of the Senate. Cruz's delusional grandiosity and arrogance are shocking.
Why would the Senate unanimously pass his bill? He had introduced the bill literally a day or two before this #DramaQueen oration. The bill was so new the text hadn't even been published and posted, which meant very few senators could have read it beforehand.
So, again, if Cruz truly believed the Senate would allow a bill most hadn't read (or heard of) to pass unanimously he's out of his mind.
Also, Cruz hadn't even bothered getting the GOP caucus to support his bill. When he gave this speech, ONLY ONE senator had signed on as a cosponsor.
So, unanimous consent? Why?
And, good God! Such audacity. Cruz has the gall to declare that his bill, with ONE cosponsor, was the most significant bill to tackle gun violence EVER, and Democrats were flushing it away.

Cruz is a lazy legislator. He did NOT network with school administrators and teachers. If he had, he would have learned that having armed officers in schools failed as an experiment. Students inevitably get into fights, tussle, are disrespectful to faculty and other students, etc.
What we learned was that schools with armed officers over time took on the role of school disciplinarian, going so far as arresting students instead of stepping back to let schools decide what is punishable and what punishments should be.
And, not exactly shocking news but unfortunate all the same, minority students (Blacks, Hispanics, etc.).were punished (or arrested) by officers grossly more frequently than white students.
He doesn't have an argument, that's why he walked off like a little coward.
