    Hopefully after you took this video they came back with ballast and tamped those ties up. Thank you for sharing!

    I remember Escanaba as quite a party back in the 70s when I was a young man

    No wonder this poor railroad is in Little to no better condition than it was in the days of the Milwaukee Road! Absolutely laid on straight dirt foundation. I guess that gravel is just for decoration. No wonder the track shifts and sinks, especially susceptible to frost heave and then sinks in wet soil during spring.

    Did they come back here and put in some ballast? or is that just too much finishing makeup for a good enough for now?
    Seems like they could put a cap with a flange? on the far end the tie being pulled out to widen/deepen/smooth the cut.
    and a cap on leading edge on the push in.

    I remember when the ELS was a ore hauler.

    Well, by golly, they do know how to repace ties!, wonder how long it would take them to do the whole railroad?? (I know this was 7 years ago, but time marches on!!)

    Danke für das Video, Daumen hoch.
    Frage:
    Höre ich da einen luftgekühlten Deutz Motor der die Maschine antreibt ?

    • @jasonasselin
      @jasonasselin  9 лет назад +3

      Translated - Thanks for the video , thumbs up .
      Question: "Do I hear an air-cooled Deutz engine
      that drives the machine ?
      +MrSpeziguzi
      Danke, um ganz ehrlich bin ich nicht sicher sein.
      Vielleicht hat jemand anderes in der Lage, zu beantworten.
      Haben Sie eine große neue Jahr !
      "Thanks, to be totally honest I am not sure.
      Maybe someone else will be able to answer.
      Have a great new year!"

    You might owe these guys an apology. They are actually spending money on track repair. Setting new ties in the finest mud base. Give them a little credit.

    Nice to see them doing some maintenance to keep the line up to snuff. I wonder if it's due to the engines that derailed?

  • @buixrule
    @buixrule 4 года назад +1

    @ 0:49 why did they pull that tie out? It was not completely disintegrated yet. How else will we continue to see box cars sway like a pendulum if they keep replacing ties like this? 😁

    Good thing they have plenty of soil to work with. It’s great for gardening and railroading. That stuff holds track level better than ballast.

  • @billmorris2613

    Looks like they could use a few car loads of ballast in that area.

  • @dang25272549

    How long the wooden tie will last ?

    • @mikebrabant4170
      @mikebrabant4170 5 лет назад +5

      A lot longer if they would use stones for ballast instead of dirt that will rot the ties because of poor drainage.

    • @beeble2003
      @beeble2003 3 года назад

      If your ties are set in dirt instead of ballast, you're gonna have crappy track. Whole thing just turns to mud when it rains.

      Good drainage, in europe we aim for this evan if the track is little used. In the end it saves the cost of rerailing

    • @beeble2003
      @beeble2003 3 года назад

      @@jasonasselin Can't be cheaper in the long run! But I suspect the whole story of this line is "Well, we could spend $20,000 to fix the problem today, or $1000 a month dealing with it for eternity. Unfortunately, we don't have twenty grand."
