- Опубликовано: 14 мар 2024
- Marvel Comics are fleshing out details surrounding their next X-Men reboot, 'From The Ashes'. Tom Brevoort and C.B. Cebulski named creative teams and titles for 3 new flagship books and several others to follow. While there are several promising details, especially the artists on-board, many details leave a lot to be desired. Wes breaks down the new X-Men titles and creators and explains why this isn't the relaunch most X-Men fans wanted. Marvel Comics severely screwed X-Men reboot.

@@jeromemaida4933It’s like they don’t understand the character or X-Men for that matter. 🤔
Log this guy under *Very Bad Azz* thank you this was awesome
I’ve no idea how anyone actually believed this reboot was going to be good, was the entire upper echelons of the company just fired? No? Did they suddenly bring in top new writers and get rid of all the terrible ones? No? Then how on earth was anything going to change? All they did was shuffle around all the dead weight and nothing has changed, so it’s going to be more of the same.
Sadly. They either suffer from Stockholm Syndrome or want stuff like X-men to fail to then sell their _Unwoke_ alternative. Since they hardly every spoke about it, unless it was to parrot how X-men was about civil rights, when they only link to BBC saying it, instead of showing it in the comics.
I wonder this all the time when I watch these RUclips channels keep getting hope for new things coming out of DC and Marvel
From what I heard Marvel actually did approach almost every big name you can think of and everyone turned them down.
@deepfriedokra Without hope, you won't get anywhere? Is it so wrong to hope for something better?
@@illithidloreProbably because they see the writing on the wall from how they undermined Hickman. Plus they could’ve low balled them.
I'd be more surprised if Marvel didn't shit the bed with everything they do.
They are, specifically from the 90s when Marvel animated shows that were good.
Jordan White: “The Krakoan Era sales are a
dumpster fire, what do we do?”
Tom Brevoort: “Hmm..needs more gasoline.”
I'd love for Cytorak to take Juggernaut's powers away right before he gets hit by like the wrecking crew. The fact he hasn't taken his powers away yet after betraying his oath TWICE now is crazy.
Well, you're dealing with a new generation of writers and editors now who have little to no sense of Marvel characters' history and of continuity, so it's all basically just bad fan fic at this point.
Seeing Wolverine being on Gail Simone's series made me groan out loud, I can already see the "hilarious" running joke of a different type of food being stuck on Logan's claws each issue. Foodsies are yumsies, and that's totes funsies!
Boy, I can't wait for the X-men to sit around and eat.
I bet Wolverine's gonna have different food skewered on his claws in each issue and constantly talk about how he can smell what everyone has had for breakfast. That and Rogue's gonna say stuff like "tarnation" or "dagnabbit" all the time like it's the funniest thing in the world.
It’s simultaneously hilarious and sad that a comment like this is what it’s come to.
But put women in charge and this is what you get. Cause this is what they do.
I’m in businesses every day for my job. I see how females in the workforce are.
And hilariously, it’s just as they depict the superheroes being in the comics.
Every girl is every other gals bestie (till she’s not) and weekly buffets or potlucks. And a lot of times a nice drawer full of hostess goodies that find their way to the females maws.
It’s pitiful.
Talk about pronouns and whose now gay.
@@cursedcancersurvivor The Uncanny X-Xim\Xers!

Gail not being signed up for the long run is not a bad thing but she's also known to be super super lazy so.
It's the reason why she can't make editorial.
Her Domino run does not give people reason to be hopeful.
She blows.
Juggernaut not a hero? How about “Juggernaut not a mutant!”!
They didn't turn the villains into heroes in the Krakoa era, they turned the heroes into villains. Krakoa era should have ended with the reveal that all the X-Men were like plant people created by Krakoa and the villains, and have them emerge from the ground from the island and fight against their copies and the villains. As it stands, they're all tainted.
Yes while Marvel don't do a retcon reveling all they were brainwashed by Krakoa or were plant clones I never will see these characters like heroes again. Never.
I wouldn't have has a problem with the Krakoa era's creative direction if Hickman was allowed to just tell the story he had planned, but he was too much of a team player, and the editor never knew what he was doing, so the lunatics who actually thought Krakoa was a legit paradise and not the plant-based Brave New World it always was took over the asylum.
can't wait to save money not buying this.
😂😂😂😂 I agree.
Same.
Disney+ is usually free with phone plans, cable, or any type of media service in a package deal. I don't know what's more embarrassing: you lying that you're going to cancel something you already have for free or that you actually pay for something you should be getting for free.
@solblackguy I do know what is more embarrassing, you posting that Marvel is putting this comic on streaming lmfao this was about the xmen comics you fucking moron lmfao
@@solblackguy the embarrassing part is all on you for assuming we were talking about the xmen cartoon show WHEN all of us are talking about COMIC BOOKS lmfao, what a moron you are.
They messed up Iceman so badly that I actually prefer Temper being in the lineup instead of nu-Bobby. “From the Ashes” Ah yes, I too remember Claremont and Simonson.
Unless they declare all of Krakoan era a non-canon dream- X-men are permanently dead. Nobody cares about the ongoing adventures of the soulless segregation clones.
Better yet, let Hickman take total control and just tell a reworked version of the cool story set up in HOX/POX that he planned and got derailed.
I was big into the X-Men as a kid in the late 80s, early 90s. I tried the House of X/Powers of X, but gave up on the hokey-preachy Krakow X-Men. I was glad to hear they are finally abandoning the "Krakoan Age", but this so-called relaunch still does not make me want to drop $20-30 a month on X-books.
Will happily keep ignoring anything Marvel.
Oh is Marvel still publishing?
Same here, but will also happily buy anything 80’s-90’s, also early 2000’s marvel
@Philosophical24 congratulations, you are directly funded these new modern comics.
@@Commonsenseisntcommon34how so?
Immortal Thor and Avengers are good
Absolutely nothing about this beyond Greg Capullo drawing Wolverine interests me in the least. And he'll probably just draw a single arc and move on.
Even that is kind of lack luster because they already had Capullo's clone on the book in Vic Bogdonavich.
The Social Justice Age for Any Superhero who debuted in the Silver Age onward is going to be the Worst Time to be a fan of those Characters.
Kitty as a barista is exactly what I have always wanted in my X-Men titles ☠️
Kitty: I never spill a coffee. They just phase through the table.
She went from a pirate, smugglers and ninja. To "can I take your order" somebody needs to be fired.
Hey she was a bartender in Mechanix so why not? *sarcasm*
Are these artists going to do 3 issues and disappear? That's what stops me following a new book.
The only thing I’ve seen of Eve Ewing is her Ironheart run, where she actually had Riri Williams act like a human person with emotions instead of a tyrannical psychopath. So if anything, the only expectations I have are that the XMen act like human superheroes again and not like sociopathic ethnostate villains.
I am never reading an X-Men book again until they fully prove they've changed
Me too. All they has blood in hands now. How can be true heroes again?
Let me guess. The "exceptional" xmen are all the diverse characters.
"Diverse". As if European and straight people weren't actually already pretty diverse.
Bigot. Only everything being a nondescript shade of brown is diverse. A variety of hair and eye colors, freckles or no freckles, and a huge mix of culturally different cuisines and clothing styles is not diverse.
@@thibaldus3Or when they literally had an international team to save the OG 5 trapped on Krakoa?
The moment I saw Gail and Eve on the list, my first thought was “Oh, god.” 🙄
Gail is a pretty good writer
@@Strat-o-casterwhen she cares.
So for the first 3 books is $15 or more per month. Then have additional six?!!? Nine? How do they expect anyone to keep up?! Really? Does Marvel even considering that even in the best of times that is a ton of money for any one person?
Marvel needs good writers very badly.
Good editors too.
I agree 100%. The Jed Mackay and Ryan Stegman is the one that sounds the most promising. However, most of Jed Mackay's work outside of Moonknight has not been great. So honestly, I think X-Men is lost and I am not going to invest. I have been disappointed too many times with the Krakoa era and I am officially done. At least they are going back to the old logos.
You'll change your mind by July.
I don’t know I’d say his Doctor Strange and Avengers have been quite good.
@@CoreyAdolfi I stopped reading after the first arc of Avengers...it was nothing special to me.
There is no fixing X-men right now. Honestly they’d be better of killing the title for a while until they figure out what to do and manage to get competent creative teams on board.
Yes the title deserves to be in a limbo for a few years after Krakoa fiasco.
That's not the solution so long as the had editors and bad writers are still around by the time they bring them back. Cleaning house is the only solution to Marvel's woes, nothing more, nothing less.
@@Tyler_W I mean I agree that’s why I said kill it till there’s competent creative there. You basically just restated my comment lol
Damn, I don't think there's a single writer in comic history I'd want writing Avengers AND X-Men at the same time.
I quit Marvel years ago and I have no regrets.
Congratulations! 🎉
(I also quit Hwood yrs ago and hv Zero regrets there either!)
So surprised at how optimistic you sound. I’m done with Marvel. As long as they have a mandate to destroy masculinity and traditional superheroes. They not getting my money.
The covers are just bait and switch.
...Gail Simone?.... pass.
Thank you. Yes
Why is juggernaut even there? He makes even less sense than magneto
Ideally, a publisher would launch with 1 title. 1 well-written, well-illustrated, and well-edited title.
3 to 4 titles isn't a launch, it's mass production/overestimating these characters' appeal.
Anything over 3 to 4 is foolish.
What can you really hope for with Marvel's current "talent pool"? The art looks interesting at least, but I see enough red flags with who is writing that I don't hold any hope for this.
They are patching up the hole in the lifeboat by cutting a replacement patch from the same lifeboat.
Damn, Marvel won't let people's wallets breathe. I had to get out of floppies and specifically Marvel and even more specifically X-men. I love X-men, but I had to step away a year ago. This new announcement makes me feel I made the right decision.
X-Men comics are now dead.
Sadly. 😢
Deadpool: Will we %$#! regenerate?
Seems Marvel did not learn their lesson and continue to release too many titles for the Xmen instead of just doing 2 strong titles. Man i miss the good old days in the mansion. Hopefully they can play some baseball in alaska.
The groaner for me was the title about some new mutants, like we need yet more (I'd rather see the ones we have that get rarely used), and of course theyre going to be .. Exceptional. Throw in a few pages every issue set in a coffee shop and its perfect for those who love that kind of thing, if anybody actually does. I don't think this title will last. Nine titles is too many, odd choices, too many X-Men titles. Juggernaut looks daft with that X on his face.
That X leapt out hugely. Awful
@@bigtomboye yeah, it looks like a prank Jubilee and Honey Badger might do while Juggernaut is asleep. Up there with Pyro's skull face tattoo as aweful make overs, young Kitty Pryde finally has competition for bad costume choices.
One thing I will give them credit for - for far too long there has been an "any old c*** will do" attitude to the artwork on the X-Men books. You think back to the original run of Uncanny X-Men: Jack Kirby, Neal Adams, Dave Cockrum, John Byrne, Paul Smith, JR JR, Alan Davis, Barry-Windsor-Smith, Marc Silvestri, Jim Lee, Whilce Portacio, Joe Madureira... the list goes on and on. There was a pedigree there that in recent years has been ignored. Yes, Leinil Yu and Joshua Cassara are great artists, but they've been the exception rather than the rule. Every X-Book had great art, not just the flagship title. It does at least look like they are bringing their A-game artistically with David Marquez and Ryan Stegman on two of the books. And it's about time.
The question is, are these books going to be readable and go some way to begin to restore the X-Men brand to it's all-conquering heyday? Based on what little of Gail Simone I've read in recent years, plus the sound of crickets around Jed McKay's Avengers run... I'm guessing this will be all flash and zero substance. But I'm pleased these books will at least look good, like they deserve to. These were some of the greatest characters in all of comic books until the Krakoan era turned them into all into cucks and mutant supremacists and it became the LGBTQ+ line of comics, rather than a line of comics that anyone who ever felt they were an outsider or didn't fit in could enjoy and relate to.
Jedd mckay really is the definition of right place right time
10:54 What’s that image from? That image is the perfect example of current X-Men, the characters look lifeless, you can’t tell if the characters are male or female. I’m starting to think that comics can’t be saved, it’s just a mess.
While Krako Era was part of continuity the X-Men are dead to me.
at least I have wolverine by capullo to look forward to. hopefully it's donny cates or pkj
Marvels doing to Jed MacKay what DC did to Joshua Williamson. WAY too much on a writer who’s had some success, but by no means has the chops to write multiple A list titles like X-Men, Avengers, and a summer event.
Their new base in Alaska? Why’re they not stationed in Westchester, at the Xavier Institute? And why is Juggernaut a member of the X-Men?
We all know the book will initially sell incredibly well based on morbid curiosity and the bad ass art, but the team they have will likely not deliver on story and it will fall off again. I pray I’m wrong but I’m probably not
More importantly, where is Colossus?!
Nyx could be good in the sense that homelessness is out of control but that would be way to heavy for a Marvel book
No interest in this relaunch I really don't like the creators/writers choices.😢😢😢
How about Daniel Warren Johnson with Capullo on art for that Wolverine book 🤔
Magneto has killed thousands of people, and mutants. DC does this with Harley Quinn
As long as Jed's current Moon Knight run stays at a good level of writing quality, I'll be happy.
I just hope he isn't overworked to the point where he puts less effort into his moon knight book and it turns to shit.
It's gonna go down like this for the X-Men line 3 issue in nothing happens than event after event.and a redo after 20 so issues.
Did i hear that right ??? There will be 3 launch titles and 6 other titles after that ??? So 9 x-men books ???
I expect nothing, and I'm still let down.
... Eve Ewing? Hahahahahahahahahaha
McKay is dope. Ewing hasn't been bad on Black Panther, just a bit convoluted. Simone hasn't written anything good in years. Her Secret Six and Birds of Prey were great. Her Action Comics and Wonder Woman were awful. She had a really good horror series, Clean Room, but that was a while ago.
I don't see the teams lasting too long. I'm really surprised they didn't give McKay Uncanny.
The very DEFINITION of "wait n see" . I'm not enthused on the creative teams.
Marvel just isn’t it for me anymore. Spider-man was the main thing holding on for Me. And marvel finally did it in making me not give a shit about spider-man anymore. They ruined spider-man 2 for ps5. The amazing spider-man comic is miserably painful. Their lazy and just race swap Iconic marvel hero’s cause they don’t want to create and build up new ethnic hero’s. Instead let’s replace captain America with a black man. Iron man with a black women, spider-man with a black man. Hulk with an Asian hulk. Honestly mangaka feels like the only thing in the world, safe from the western ideology bullshit in everything.
Yeah sorry, I'm not coming back. There's tons of good X-Men comics from previous eras I can read.
Defending a world that hates and fears them, only this time they gave everyone a genuine and valid reason to do so! I'm so glad in to see the X-Men in the shit again. After Krakoa they didn't deserve less.
I’ve heard that X-men by McKay will be featuring new villains. Jed creates a lot of villains that are not really distinct from each other. All the villains in his Avengers and Blood Hunt and none of them could be picked out of a police lineup
Some people say writers are reticent to create potentially great characters knowing if marvel really promotes the character they won't get proper due or compensation.
Marvel: "Look! Look! We're rebooting X-Men!"
Fans: *lone tumbleweed rolls away*
Why are people still reading anything from the corpse of a once good story company?
Will they reverse all the gay conversion from decades long straight characters? If not, I'll skip it.
They created clone of Beast without Krakoa memories. The actual Beast should be killed off for good and the old Beast will return.
@@EvandroACruz Then they could give us the Kitty Pride who crushed (and later loved) Colossus and the Iceman who dated Polaris, Zelda, Darkstar and Annie back.
Xavier: Humans and mutants need to get along.
Magneto: OK, bro. Let's get some coffee.
Hahaha ☕😊
Marvel editor - we want to stay focused and make X-men great again. 3 main series tops is all we need to get people invested in it. X-men editor- best I can do is 9 books. I hope for the best but track record says be worried .
These new Marvel Comics X-Men comics written by Gail Simone and the Disney + original animated series X-Men '97 are all going to suck so badly. You can only imagine how much soy woke S.J.W. crap that those comics and that animated series are all going to be filled with.
Gail Simone's run on Domino and Domino:Hotshots was terrible.
They def gave Gail Wolverine and the objectively more popular squad because they knew that hiring her was an automatic handicap. Gotta counterbalance the Gail effect somehow.
I want to see the X-Factor lineup. I want Havok leading them. If that happens, I might actually pick it up, depending on the creative team of course.
I collected all of the X-Comics for the last 5 years. For the last year, they have all sat in a pile unread. I've been buying 15 books a week since 1991. For the first time ever, I can say I will be buying ZERO Marvel books after May. They killed all interest I had in the Xmen. I loved Cable and X-Force in the 90s. I have no interest in reading another bad take on it. I'm done with X-books.
Maggy n Juggy have definitely been xmen allies before. The kitty book seems the weakest so fat. I'm not excited about Gail at all. Without great villians the stories will suffer.
Unreadable X-men 🧻💰🚽🪦
Ooo, burn!🔥
X-Murderers.
The fact that it's not called X-Ceptional X-Men is all you need to know that it's going to suck.
I was pigeon toed as a small child. Can I join the X-Men? 😂
Why is Juggernaut on an X-Men team!
I gave up on X-Men some years ago, after I think it was the third time Uncanny was rebooted. As I recall Emma Frost was the lead and Cyclops was the villain, Iceman was gay comic relief, it was dismal and nothing that I wanted to be part of. In fact I gave up on Marvel entirely as the MU was no longer a fun place. I briefly returned to ASM after its latest reboot and found nothing but pain, gave up again.
How much longer can Marvel continue to pump out this garbage which no one wants? I know Disney has deep pockets but even they have limits.
Yes modern Marvel become a very cynical place. Many heroes behaving like villains or shitty persons. And killing the bad guys being a acceptable option to them. Spider-man aside.
The only way Exceptional X-men makes it past 13 issues is if there’s a planned crossover event between the titles that happens around that time.
Thankfully Peach Momoko is making sure we have at least one good X-Men title
I’m shocked/not shocked that they didn’t give us a single big name writer/artist combo to get some asses in the seats.
why oh why do they have to do my X-men dirty, they had so much potential with the House of X/Powers of x but then they went and shot themselves in the foot.
The X symbol become a tainted thing right now. I don't see they like heroes again.
First X-Men 97 and now this? Marvel just stop already!
Feel sorry for comic shop they don't recommend anything .I give up on marvel.
Looks like i'm not Reading X-Men back yet.
Yes thats why i liked the x-men. Them being underground, trying to survive, and just constantly mucking things, barely making it out. Thats when the x-men work best, otherwise they're just another Avengers.
I deliberately put off watching this one because I anticipated the books would be trash.
Why did I have to be right? I keep hoping I won’t be right.
…..not surprised at all……Here we go again with another train wreck that we all can obviously see coming…..still kinda at a loss for words……🤷🏽♂️😓🫣🤦🏽♂️
"An x book for everyone!"
White conservative christian: "even me?"
"LOL, no"
I know this isn't exactly well said but this reboot is absolute trash. What a big miss.
If Brevoort thinks Im just a "cretin", then I guess I'll just keep my cretin money.
What'd they do to Juggernaut? He's no longer a hardcore enemy.
Awesome work mate
Celebrating diversity actually negates the reason to even have an X-Men line. Just sayin'. Diversity as a challenge is the point of the characters, 'nuff said 😢
The only thing that will fix Marvel is cleaning house of the writers and editors who don't produce quality and success. Marvel has never needed a Jim Shooter type to run the show more.
i was watching this pic and underwhelming still the mood - Most of us should just lay low til this stuff come out
Maybe people wouldn't hate the X-men so much if they didn't force you to accept a whole mansion in central park that apparently is abandoned.
Love the look you made when u mentioned Exceptional X-Men 😂. Also that title just sounds bad. It looks like a horrible version of generation x. I'll try X-Men but I think Uncanny will be the best of the 3. Also why aren't the X-men all in one place?
No thanks. To me, it’s all too little and too late. I’ll be sticking with Dynamite’s Gargoyles revival, instead. That, at least, has the guarantee of long-term game plans (courtesy of Greg Weisman), consistent storytelling (again, courtesy of Greg Weisman), and not burdened by a mountain of empty promises throughout the last decade-and-a-half.
How many relaunches does this make?
They should just bring back Astonishing X-men like back in 2004. And stop with the over complicated and super convoluted crap they been doing for years. Should not be as hard as they making it out to be.
