Literally my favorite piece of any video game ever. They didn’t need to go this hard but they did anyway. It makes my brain so happy to hear this again
A friend of mine honestly can't stand this piece of music (which is partially the reason I chose it for the One Hour Game Music series) - it genuinely fills me with joy that so many people feel the nostalgia for it! 👍
the first game that took atmosphere and therefore also music seriously. I am even emotional watching and listening this again. The person for the music and soundeffects (such as exciting moments) was probably gold for the game. Also liked the puzzles which you had to figure out with zero help. Some days went by. For some a week even and then a friend helped. So much more rewarding than nowadays with all kind of help. Eventually walkthroughs are ok but not from the start. My point is still not the puzzles but the atmosphere there was created I have not seen even in the games there are today.
I must admit I have not played a lot of new tomb raider games. Some, but not a the latest after the first three ones. I was turned away when the game-assist were there. So maybe I have to try the latest ones(games). The old ones are my favorite still (I am 48 years). I watched some RUclips videos of some remastered game making (Suzanne the Raider I believe). Nice to watch! Real nostalgia :) The gold turning of Lara, the Venice clocks counting down before the boat had to be past the point etc. Also loved the kind of chess game in level ... ??? Was it in Barkham Monastery? The story was also good (time ahead). I think I want the old suspense back with modern gameplay. Meaning that you have to figure out more yourself (puzzles and abilities, at least the puzzles) The puzzles were great. The switches order to push, standing in the light to trigger something, the chess-like game. the puzzles without explaining. You were stuck at the game and didn't know what the solution was until you tried crazy things. Need I say more :)
There is definitely something about the puzzle design in the original games that is somewhat lacking in the later ones. Modern Tomb Raider games are, to some extent, more of a metroidvania if you want to fully explore them (i.e. you have to backtrack later with new items and weapons in order to get into specific areas), but otherwise entirely linear if you only follow the story. Granted, the originals were also largely linear - enter area, find items, solve puzzles, proceed to next level - but it felt like it disguised it far better!
this level destroyed my immersion completely coming from the eerie isolated epic locations of the first game...the first level of tomb raider 2 was actually pretty cool in regards of the atmosphere where the last game left off and then this...i mean the music is art for sure lol but as for tomb raiding goes it was terrible for me and a downgrade im impressed its most peoples favorite :o
I get what you mean, for sure. There's something about the expanse of the canals that feels so huge compared to everything that came before, perhaps with the exception of the dinosaur area in TR1. It made a nice change to be out in the fresh air, but equally, it's not a tomb, is it?

It's just so good!
Love this soundtrack and amazing score
I really feel that the Tomb Raider soundtracks don't get enough love!
Masterpiece of a game and soundtrack!
Despite its flaws it's a fantastic entry in the series!
ahh the nostalgia, brings back the memories
