Not only did I witness live the Prudhomme/Nicoll final on ABC's "Wide World of sports" at 7 yrs old, but lived about 30 min from Ontario Motor Speedway and attended the 1970 Supernationals. Had been to Lions, Irwindale, OCIR, then Ontario, and a few months later the NHRA Winternationals at the Pomona fairgrounds. Saw a lot of all 5 tracks over the years. Miss em' all!
In my teens saw Shirley Muldowney at DETROIT racetrack, a cooler and a blanket on the grass. Hot summer nights back then, no A/C, windows open, consisted of falling asleep trying to catch a breeze while listening to the drag races off in the distance.
Has anyone ever heard of or about the dragster called the Texas Tornado? My childhood friends dad was the mechanic on it. I've seen pics.listened to his story. they lost pictures in hurricane. Can't find it on websites nowhere?I know it existed!
Richard if you have access to Facebook there a variety of groups that discuss and share images of drag racing from the 1960's to the current day. It may take a little searching but you would be amazed of what you might find there.
I'm so thankful for these videos. My daddy is Jake King and it does my heart good to see him, Ronnie and Buddy at their crafts.
I'd ride my bicycle to irwindale from West Covina to watch the drags in the mid 60s. I fell in love
I recall how excited I was. Just a true euphoric time.
CLASSIC! A bit of history, and lots of clips of my heros! Thanks for posting!

Ah yes....the glory days of drag racing when it was fun....when trophy queens were nervous. The days of hand painted lettering and colorful names
God how I miss those days
Sure miss the 70s. At some point through those yrs I met a lot of those owner/drivers.
Lots of vintage footage there!
When drag racing was all about shifting gears faster than today's paddle shifters
Those were real men driving at their own risk
Absolutely, the amount of electronics and assisted mechanisms has diluted the essence of drag racing.
So line locks and trans brakes were bad things back when they came out?
Yeah they don't know what there talking about.....not to mention us that arent "real men" drive cars 5x's faster
I relive the 70s every Saturday morning as I drive my blown 57 to Hotrods in Horsetown
Why does it always have to be about you Randy ?
Because he gets blown every Saturday 😅
The 71 Cricket on the showroom window is 😂
Washington State University Cougar alum and LEGENDARY VOICE KEITH JACKSON!!

Paused the video at 13:20, look at the front of the dealership. Must have been such a site to see.
Had I known this was a chrysler corp video, I wouldn't have watched it.
@9:35 - Nixie Tube technology!
Not at the same level as these guys, but I was racing a 69 Charger in SS/DA at the time.
Sox and Martin were the best. Ronnie Sox was the best driver with a 4 speed transmission there ever was !!!
Epileptics: not a good idea to watch this video!
Geez can you guys flash any more images?
