  • Highlights of the holes-case, solid end link, non-tritium version of the much-loved 16570, and how it compares to more modern Wilsdorf (Rolex and Tudor) watches.
UPDATE - Check the comments below - it would seem my "overpolished lug" may be original after all.
Seems the thinner lugs are common across this era of 5-digit rolexes, and particularly in the serial range from which mine comes. Interesting!

Word up! What do YOU think of the Polar Explorer II? Let me know! Also, let me know what you think of the "top down" shot. Oh, and please excuse some audio wonkiness... The neighborhood was alive with annoyances when I finally decided to shoot this one!

I just bought a 2003 Polar and can't wait to get it. I love this watch, will be a great addition to my collection.

You are a natural reviewer. Wish you made more watch reviews since you're one of the better ones out there!

"This lug is real thin at the end compared to that lug." That's because they're made that way, not because of polishing. Your watch is fine! The right-hand lug is thinner to balance the width/weight of metal that the crown guard (or crown, in watches without a crown guard, eg Exp/DJ) brings to the party on that side of the watch. If the left-hand lug were the same thickness as the one on the right-hand side, the aesthetics wouldn't be as pleasing. (Nice vid, btw!)

Is that so? I'll be darned... I never knew that. I'll have to have a closer look at a few others to see how it compares! Thanks for the insight, and for watching! 🙌

@@spoontastico I learned this on TRF, which is incidentally where I found a link to this video, I think (Tudor Tuesday?). See here for example, although there are many such threads : www.rolexforums.com/archive/index.php/t-269755.html As someone says, it would be nice if there were some official documentation on this.

Just came across your video, great review. I've recently picked up my Exp 2 16570 and am delighted with it. The aesthetic of the design doesnt scream Rolex, like my other pieces, i ilke the fact it flies beneath the radar. It really is a tool like piece, more so than the newer 42mm in my opinion. I'm now subscribed and look forward to more content.

@@thefollandgnat you are right. I have got sub 14060M, explorer ll 16570, seadweller 16600, datejust 36 and GMT master ll batman all have lug side a bit thinner and I bought them all new. Sub 14060M, seadweller 16600, Datejust 36, GMT master ll batman all have no chamfer, only explorer ll 16570 has factory chamfer. Unless same AD polished the chamfers off before delivering them to me starting from 1993 I have no doubt my watches were new.

The Swiss Made dial indicates Super luminova lume, which is either late 1999 or later year

I don't think that the edges on the case are meant to be bevelled. They should be sharp and the lugs should be even and match each other top and bottom

Hey, beautiful watch. Thought I'de mention, the lower crown side lug has not been over polished. See here: www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=626162 Look for Padi56's comment in the thread, he's very knowledgable.
