I spent 2 months there this past winter, I want to correct a few things. DON'T change your money at the front desk, you will meet people that will give you 5x the official rate on forigne currency. They need euros or CAD to fill their MLC cards to shop in government stores so inflation has gone way up on our money. Find a worker at the hotel or your AirBnb hosts, and get a picture of their ID if you are worried about getting ripped off. Don't change money with a random off the street. Officially 1 Canadian dollar is worth 18 pesos, I was getting 75 pesos from my guy and I was changing 500 CAD at a time. In any non Government store you can pay with Pesos or foreign cash, of course they want you to pay with CAD or euros because then they will change it on the black market. Secondly if you want to save money on taxi's then there is a hop on hop off bus that runs the length of Varadero for 6 USD for a day pass. Third, Beatles bar is shit cover music of american music and just full of white tourists, no Cuban would ever go there there is no flavor. Instead go to Havana Club downtown or one of the dance clubs at the resorts that are open to the public, you will have MUCH more fun. I agree with going to Santa Marta for a day trip though but not by taxi, it's best done on foot and is only 20 minute walk from the bus I mentioned earlier. You can even get a bici aka bicycle taxi to take you on a better tour for around 100 pesos at most.
We are planing to go to Melia Internacional in few weeks Is it better to exchnage money before we go? We in Canada, Ontario.. I was in Cuba but while a go like 7 years so I dont remember exactly about the money thing Also what do I exchange too? I heard they only using some different currency then before in Cuba Thanks
@@Angelswingss going rate is 120 CUP per Canadian dollar but the hotel will change for 88. Only money you should change before you come is just to get 1 dollar US bills which are great for tipping but anyone will take Canadian dollars. If you use pesos your dollar will go way further.
Thank you, when I went there I didn’t know this, after saw a presentation I realized this, I gave all the chocolate I had for myself to the people I met
As a Canadian tourist I have been to Cuba 65 times over 30 years. If you have not visited Cuba its very safe, food is fine, beautiful beaches, lots of sightseeing places , visit and swim in caves and great entertainment. The Cuban people are very friendly, giving and lovable people. For a fun experience I suggest bringing school supplies and then ask at a school if you can go into a class room to meet the children and had out the gifts....Havana is a must city to visit for the history and entertainment is awesome....
I got 100 pesos for 1 dollar a couple months ago, that’s the unofficial rate everyone just charged or calculate the unofficial rate. The official rate is about 17 pesos per dollar
I suggest to to exchange with the security guys or the beach guards they always do it, beach guards always do it. I also suggest to take smaller bills like 10s and 20s

Do not swim with the dolphins. It is cruel, they are kept in captivity.
