Same with reviewing the catch inside the 1-Yard-line right before the end of the second half. Zero chance that gets called as a catch------not even close.
The guy was offsides. From the angle the broadcast showed it makes it look like he wasn’t but if you do the math, his head was over. His body was leaning forward so his head was far in front of his foot which was just at the line.
Player's helmet and hand were both passed the restraining line. That's why the ref, who was standing ON the restraining line 5 yards away with the prefect view, threw the flag.
Everyone crying about the offsides call but we just going to ignore the fact Michigan would have had possession of the ball anyways with the illegal touching before the ball traveled the required 10 yards.
Yup. It bounces off the shin or knee of #0 after nine yards. Even without a good closeup replay, it’s pretty clear. And Minnesota was blocking on the play before the ball went 10 yards, which is also illegal.
SECTION 18, ARTICLE 2. After the ball is ready for play, offside occurs (Rule 7-1-5) when a defensive player: (f) Is not behind his restraining line when the ball is legally free-kicked. Offside occurs when one or more players of the kicking team are not behind their restraining line when the ball is legally free-kicked (Exception: The kicker and holder are not offside when they are beyond their restraining line) (Rule 6-1-2). SECTION 12, ARTICLE 5. A restraining line is part of a vertical plane that limits a team’s alignment for free kicks. The plane extends beyond the sidelines (A.R. 2-12-5-I). It's a vertical plane. You cannot cross this vertical plane with ANY PART of your body (exception: kicker and holder). His head was clearly over the line which is why the side judge who was standing on said line threw the flag. So even though his foot didn't cross the line, it didn't matter. His head clearly did.

His whole body, including his head, have to stay on side. It would be interesting to see a view straight down the line as opposed to in front of it, which is skewing a bit. But the referee is right on the line and can see if his head is over the line before it kicked.
Not really this was one of 3 penalties on that play and the refs called the 1 that gave Minnesota an opportunity for a re kick. Illegal touching and illegal blocking happened on that play and both don’t get redos.
The angle is misleading but he was guaranteed offside. Here’s how to prove it: look where his foot is when the ball is kicked. It is about 6-12inches from the line. He is running forward and his body is leaning forward at an angle and his head and arms are clearly extended at least 1-2 feet out beyond his foot. If you draw out a little diagram and draw a line straight down from his head it would clearly be past the line. Anybody running at speed would need to have their foot at least 3 feet away from the line so that their body leaning forward doesn’t extend over the line.
