They should, just to cover their bases, but it's not very effective. Sadly, restraining orders are just pieces of paper that threaten punishment if they are violated. They don't actually do anything to stop the attacker from trying again. A woman willing to risk 12 years in prison for attempted murder, and who knows she will face murder charges if she succeeds, is unlikely to be dissuaded by a piece of paper threatening her with a few months of jailtime if she goes near the victim(s). OP should get the restraining order, but they need to be careful and not be fooled by that piece of paper into letting their guard down.
