I was diagnosed with T1D at 6. Then in my late twenties I received a kidney/pancreas transplant. Diabetes was gone for about 4 years. Now based on my previous lab results, transplanted pancreas is giving out and I’ll be back as a diabetic again. Sugars are high at least once a day. Still when my transplanted pancreases was working, I kept my diet very restricted. It sucks, but oh well. I’m looking into this Dexcom G6 sensor. Great video!!!

Love your expression when referring to 'pricking your fingers' to calibrate (when needed)... lol I've been a T1D for close to 45 years, and remember back in the day when we had to test our urine! No personal poking of fingers for blood samples at that time. lol Then you had to use an eye dropper to put two drops of urine into a test tube, then add 10 drops of water followed by a dissolving pill which changed the colour of the fluid based on the amount of sugar in your urine.. then you'd compare the colour to a chart.. blue was really great... low sugar... but burnt orange meant that you were high.. this included other shades of orange etc, along the chart. All guess work. Then came the finger poking deice which was the size of a kleenex box, and you jabbed your finger with a small version of what looked like a razor blade. They soon invented something that launched a sharpened item into your finger.. geez.. it was horrid but we've come a long way! Cheers!

I have been a type 1 diabetic for 55 years, and the best way to check blood sugars, in my opinion, is the regular glucometers. It's just a small finger prick, and I am so used to them. My doctor however, says that the CGM glucometers are better, but I am so illiterate on all this new technology. I do not know how to use most of this new technology. Call me old fashioned.

I have NOT always been a model T1 patient. I would have not believed that I would be blessed with a CGM and a pump which provides basal insulin. I have found this tutorial very helpful! I have just travelled Europe with my type 1 friend who uses Dexcom, and now have more of a handle on understanding it. I’m a nurse of some 40 years experience, but until this holiday, have not had exposure to this system.
One problem we had whilst away was her treatment when she mentioned that she was unable to put her sensors etc through the X-ray scanner. She was surrounded by police on one occasion, treated as if she was a criminal on almost all occasions, and told that in order to be able to go through without X-ray on another occasion, she needed authorisation from the government of that country! Education regarding these things is so important!

Hi Gina! I am so glad that my video was helpful for you - thank you for watching and commenting! Other than X-ray scanners, I hope you two had the best trip! I agree that education is very important. Different countries have different policies so it’s important to look into these things before hand but hopefully everything was sorted. I recommend carrying proof of medical necessity and double checking with each airlines regulations specifically before travel. I hope this is helpful and I’m wishing y’all the very best!

Anyway, thank you so very much for this video and all of yours because I needed the help last night! The only problem I'm having so far is when my wi-fi is intermittent, my phone makes a noise and it kind of stressed me out getting those last night. I'm going to buy a new iPhone today and hope the transition is easy. It was great waking up and not having to prick my finger. Thank you for your videos, I just subscribed!

My endo has suggested the Dexcom G6 (I currently use the Freestyle Libre' 14 day sensor), and your video sold me on it. Personally I've had issues in the past using the Skin Tac with the Freestyle Libre' which has caused the sensor to fail every time I used it. I've even let it dry for 2 - 3 minutes, and they still failed. 35 years T1. Thanks so much!
