Happy birthday for tomorrow
I've never worked on a Ural, cause they are expensive in my country, but I was a real professional motorcycle mechanic, and I'm so good, my Harley doesn't leak any oil! Lol. I have worked on a lot of old Japanese bikes though, and a couple reliability tips that may help you with your Ural, since you go super remote and dont want to break down: many old bikes have what is called a "balanced electrical system" meaning it must have the current draw from everything, even the little indicator lights/instrument lights, or it can burn out the stock regulator/rectifier alarmingly fast. Most old bikes, someone has figured out a modern regulator/rectifier that is much cheaper, and much more robust. Last bike I had like that, the factory ones were like $75, the modern better one was like $4, so you could absolutely keep a spare on the bike, cause they are the size of a small box of matches. Next tip is if it has a stator, there are two main types. One type all the windings look the same. Other type all will look the same except 1 winding. If you have all the same windings type, it's nice to swap to the 1 winding is different type for going on remote trips. 1 winding different runs the ignition, and will run with no battery at all, where as the all the same winding types must have a good battery to run. You can often swap the run without a battery type for the crappy need a battery type, pm me if you need help figuring out a good one to swap in.
Lastly, they make this special grease that conducts electricity, and prevents corrosion, smear a little of that on the electrical blade connectors, and it will prevent the corrosion that caused you urals malfunction. Good luck, and thanks for the great videos!
Simplicity rules. Just taking apart our 62 year old Super Cub tractor. Its younger than me, and its so well engineered and designed. You look at and wonder why they dont make them like that now. 9 horse power... cuts our hay(until I broke the cutting bar ) and tows whatever you want. Thanks Lars. Always wanted a Ural Combi, so still maybe one day. All the best Keith.
Thank you Keith! I much agree.
many years ago we had over 20 people on a 650cc ural and sidecar and drove it about 60 feet..in aberdeenshire scotland
Happy birthday mate thank you for sharing your life with us much respect from Australia
Very true, keep it simple. Happy birthday Lars, may God bless you with peace and good health.
Thank you very much Alan!
Thanks for Sharing with Us Lars. Daniel from Medford Oregon. Blessings to You And Yours.
VIVA RUSSIA
You guys are always having so much fun. I'm getting jealous.
that ural is a really nice classic motocycle i think about to find one like that for me
I am ready to start driving antiques. I am tired of electrical glitches.
Lars forgive the spelling. I am former military, like you. I am ancient, I was in the Navy of the USA during the time of wooden ships and iron men. People need directions and visual instructions on how to survive. I truly appreciate what you do and believe that you are helping people who need help more than they realize. Like you, I feel confident that I can walk off into the wilderness and not only survive, but thrive. I tell people that most jobs in the military are jobs that you will find in any corporation anywhere in the world.
Happy blessed birthday dearest Lars. You are enjoying the wild rides through the jungle with super old vehicles. You are a practical engineer and knows to fix the ancient robust vehicles. God bless your good work.
Many thanks!
The tank is sounding good!!!
Nice video. Happy birthday Lars. Cheers from Norway 😃
Happy birthday young man.
another interesting vid!!! thank you Lars and enjoy your birthday!!!!
Was that the voltage regulator that gave you trouble? Glad you got it running again. It would have been a long pull home.
Yes it was. A really badly corroded contact point on the relay.
Happy birthday!
I ride old bikes and always bring tools, so I won't need them...hopefully
As the owner of a lada niva I fully concur with your comments on soviet vehicles. I broke the throttle cable out the back of nowhere mad a new cable out of a snare and a throttle cable retaining clip out of an empty .308 cartridge.
Thanks! Happy birthday
G’day from Oz... it’s already May 11 here... Happy Birthday for today. Enjoy your 21st birthday, plus a few of course 😁 All the Best 👍🎂
Thanks 👍
Lars, we will have polar lights tonight from the sun storm coming in, how cool is that, I've never seen them before and when I do, it's your birthday^^
It looks awesome))
@@SurvivalRussia I'll have a beer on you
I have a KLR650 and I'm always enamoured by its simplicity. 1 cylinder big thumper 650cc with a carburettor and very primitive electronics. As long as it has oil in it, it will just keep putting on down the road.
I had a 1st gen KLR650. Black, red and white.
Happy birthday Lars! From tennessee 🎉
Happy Birthday Lars , have a wonderful day, thanks for sharing YAH bless brother !
Thank you Mike!
Show us your greenhouse please !!
I like the older vehicles myself. Easier to fix. Despite fixing the Ural, looks like you guys had fun. The Pink Ninja is getting so big now...wow...you'll be taking orders from her pretty soon Lars...lol. Cheers from Saskatchewan.
Happy Birthday Larz. Hope you have many more to come Sir.
Thank you very much!
Wrong design of bike for off road use. This would be like taking your Volvo on this trip. Romantic notions don`t make a road bike an off road design. This is where I should ask, ''How the heck is the horse doing? Still plan to keep it at the horse traders place?" I think the Kids would enjoy having it home for the summer. They come equipped with independent 4 WD, limited slip rear ends, by the way. Have a great birthday, easy on the home brew .
I reccomend Moto Guzzi. 👍 Ural are also great bikes
No Lars, simple IS best . Period . Everything in the last 40 years here in the states has been more and more complicated . That old voltage regulator looks like the old Fords of the 50's and 60's . . I love the old stuff that if you knew some theory and had some tools you could generally get it running at least to get home and then fix it right .
The old trike is a copy of the old BMW's opposed two cylinder . A tried and true design . They used to (probably still do) had/have a hundred thousand mile club for BMW's that never been rebuilt .
Belated Happy birthday comrade...catching up on youtube videos - only 5 days behind!!!
Ural motorcycle is a Russian legend. It is condemned for poor production quality, but nevertheless it is praised for extraordinary survivability and simplicity which allows to repair it with few tools right in the field.
But most problems with these motorcycles usually come from incompetent owners who exploit the motorcycle in all possible ways beyond limits set by factory.
BTW, I own such bike, it is really cool.
Happy Birthday 🎂 🥳 🎉❤
Thank you Jesse! Good to see you ))
Yeah we got those bikes over here in Canada. There are three-wheel drive as far as I know but they're. They have a shaft that goes to the wheel on the side cart. Something different. I think it's the only bike that has it. You're off road vehicles like you're big six-wheel drive trucks. They go anywhere that I've seen but nothing compared to the stuff that's over here. Like the Canadian or the American stuff they don't even come close to what you guys have over there. You said it make it easy already. Well happy birthday! You have a good day. Looking forward to your next. 👍👍🙂🇨🇦🎂
Modern Japanese bikes are extremely reliable, Especially 90s bikes with carbs and CDI, very easy to carry a spare cdi coil erc. much better than a ural
Happy birthday Lars! Glad to see the problem was a simple one, dirty contacts. But, maybe, it would do to get an older motorcycle? Because it is true, simple is better!
Awesome video, know exactly what u talking about 😂, that is the reason why we talk years later about the problem solving we had to do and in the process learning valuable lessons, that's why the video is called Survival Russia with the bear necessities, awesome 🎉
We busted up coupled of VW powered bush bugs or also known as rail buggies up in the hills of Kentucky! One bush bug hit a tree breaking the front suspension causing it to be uncontrollable with the front dragging the ground and not able to steer it.. A few minutes later the second one sideswiped a tree ripping the drive axle off and bending the control arm on the rear.. So we have two busted up bushbugs wayback it the hills with no way to get them out..after a few minutes of determined thinking we came to the conclusion we could take the one with the busted front suspension and lift the front of it up on the rear of the other bush bug with the busted drive axle and chain them together and using the damage front suspension one to push the other one that wouldn't move. I never laugh so hard in my life trying to control these two busted up bushbug as one contraption with wheels and two drivers one was the throttle man in the back and the other one in the front did all the steering while trying to claw up hills, miss trees and flying down narrow paths with little brake going down hill..🤣 Oh yeah Happy Birthday!!
Sadly, the days where American made machines could be fixed by American consumers with hand tools is long gone.
felt like a microcosm of the soviet union: the military vehicle runs, and the civilian motorcycle breaks.
the soviets had a space program before a toilet paper factory.
Happy birthday Lars!, hope you had a great day, did Mrs S.R. make you a nice Russian cake?
Happy Birthday from Belgium! A bit late but.....
Have a shot of slivovitz on your birthday. срећна
рођендан🇷🇸🇷🇺
I would like if possible to engage your wife to teach me russian . But she is probably too busy with her job.

Отлично! Самое мужское времяпрепровождение. Сколько раз такое было - заипенится в глушь, там что нибудь сломать, всей толпой чинить. Пообщаться с друзьями, выпить пиво или что покрепче - нормальный отдых!
You should sell Your british peace of range rover and buy Yourself a UAZ.
There is always a need for equipment that is easy to repair. Nothing worse then something you can't at least try and fix with hand tools.
happy birthday now, boldog születésnapot ma
Happy Birthday! I loved the Gulag videos!
It is better to replace regulator relay of Ural for solid-state relay from VAZ cars, it works better.
Happy birthday! Me , a granddaughter, and a daughter in law all have may birthdays!
Still missing my blua Puch Dakota.
What’s the name of your multicam jacket? You wear it a lot it seems :-)
Americans engineer vehicles so the owner cannot fix the problem. Some do not come with a even a spare tire!
The Ural isn't really Soviet engineering. Stalin had 4 BMW motorcycles imported from Germany in 1938, backwards engineered and began producing them, so the Ural isn't a Soviet design, it's a Soviet knockoff. The Ural is still a cool motorcycle because it looks like an antique BMW and is often coupled with the sidecar. They became available in the US a while ago. They did put nice paint on them, they looked good, but weren't dependable enough for regular use and were slow for highway speeds. I still like them, though.
It kind of is Soviet engineering, or it became so down the road. They are not exact copies and also not as well built as the old BMW's. What I mean is the casting as example. Quite rough around the edges, but it does not matter so much.
Not bad bikes though. Today you can get injection kits and all sorts of after market parts.
Give me simple fixable in the field technology anytime !
Happy birthday buddy
Russian tanks are not simple! They put stuff in the most impossible places on those things.I watched as 5 competent tank mechs pulled their hair out trying to get one started on the range! 10 hours later (a small city was built around it) it started and as we got ready to leave the final drive locked up!
Which model?
Happpy birthday Lars wish you many more from Townsville Australia
Thank you M8!
Et forsinket tillykke med fødselsdagen fra Kølvrå 🇩🇰
Happy belated birthday from Denmark 🇩🇰
Mange tak!
You guys beat the hell out of it so it shouldn't come as a surprise that it broke down.
happy birthday son love your vids . its the voltage regulator i,ll bet ya
I LIKE simple and uncomplicated. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Happy Birthday Lars from the great wite north Canada!
Of course, the problem has nothing to do with rough usage on those roads?
👍👍👍
🎂🍻 .. enjoy 😊
I kan bare det hejs.
Kunne være spændende at se jer på en nat expedition. Hvis ikke det er for farligt.
Man, at 02:09 your Russian is super awesome! Great vid!
Sound like the stator or coil problem on the bike.
I would love to own property in Russia, specifically land. Is this possible for foreigners?
It is.
Man, maybe it's just the audio on this video but that bike sounds like it's got a compression leak maybe. Great video by the way
It's just the audio. The bike sounds horrible on that camera.
What better way to go 4xbing and camping
