  • I get to review the Rocky Mountain Altitude Powerplay carbon 90 Rally Edition. This is an E- mountain bike with 108 Nm of torque from a Dyname 4.0 motor. This is a very high spec E bike at an equally high price.
Join me to see what I think of this special bike.

Hi Lance - great review just want to correct a few things. This is a 2022 Rocky Mountain Carbon 90 Power Play - Rally edition. The recommended retail in NZ was $18,999 and the 330 Overtime battery is $1399. We expect increases in price next year due to exchange rate. I'm not sure if the owner showed you how to customise the power delivery. To get the full effect of the motor you have the option of Boost +2 you would feel this on really steep climbs. As you discussed the suspension had been set for owner who is 72kg. We changed out the shock spring from 450lb down to 400lb. I'm sure that had a negative effect on your ground clearance and increased pedal strike. We are Suspension Tech International Ltd - the Rotorua dealers for Rockymountain in Rotorua. We customise the suspension on all the bikes we deliver at no extra charge. Cheers Norm

Thanks Norm. Am hoping to do a factually correct video eventually. I rode it as the owner had it set up. Might do another video with it in the future. It is a seriously cool bike. Would be great to have longer to review and set them up, but it is what it is. I hope people understand that.

@@bestdayevermtb2 I thought the video was great. The riding clips were also very well done. I have seen professionals that don't come close to your review. Just really wanted to get the price correct - all these bikes are too expensive but not much we can do about that. And as far as set up I think you explained it was set for a 72kg rider. Just the one downside of coil suspension - its not so easy to adjust for rider weight changes. I was surprised it worked as good as it did given the shock spring was way too soft for you. I thought the test was a fair reflection of the bike. Almost makes me want to come and ride Woodhill again. Almost! we have it too good down here in Rotorua. May be we can get you to test "our shock" one day?

Such a great bike, but I am biased also, I have not tried this new model yet. Be interesting to see how my 27.5 feels in comparison to the 29er.
I believe you can still use the Mahle app for this model, along with the jumbotron as well 👍🏻
I run a 2.4 on my rear, found it helps with battery range on longer rides, whilst keeping good enough grip. All about still putting in the effort to get the ludicrous power. You hit the nail on the head, helps keep that natural feeling, but have to adapt to it, does really help on steep hill starts as you don't spin out as such with the full power straight away, you can moderate it better 👍🏻
Great video fella, enjoyed that 👍🏻

So I purchased a Rockey mountain powerplay Altitude A30 coil and I must say it puts out power much different than my Shamono E8000. You cannot be a passage on the Rockey Mountain. Na that top spec model is 19k plus the range extender, still frickin outrageous though. I have the bottom spec alloy altitude A30 for 11k, still pricey though. As for the noisy motor, I reckon it’s the extra pulley’s. the key is keep them clean and all is quiet, especially that motor. I belong to a FB RM Powerplay group and see some of those guys have removed the bottom tensioner, with no chain drops. I removed my this morning and will be out Woodhill Sunday morning to see how if it’s quieter. Agree about 108nm not walking the talk, I believe it comes into its own on very steep climbs. There is a “Boost” adjustment in the custom settings, so on + 2 is should respond a lot quicker. See you out on the trail 😊
