Just came back from a bird photo shoot. Photo AI doesn’t allow enough control and I don’t like the results. I still find Denise and Sharpen to be much better.
I’ve stopped using Photo AI and have gone back to the two individual Topaz apps.
Another great video. Is it me, or is there colour shift when you use Topaz Labs AI? I notice it when I used it and noticed it in your video.
This new update seems to have changed one of the options I liked. With Windows in the last version, I would pick an image in Lightroom and the go to File-Plugin Extras-Process in Topaz PhotoAI. Then I would select Make a Copy which made a duplicate DNG file and then opened in Topaz Photo AI. When I was done with enhancements I saved it back to Lightroom as a DNG. Now it is only allowing me to save it as a TIFF which is much larger file that I don't need.
Hi, Why not turn off autopilot in the Preferences? Also, if sending an image to Photo AI from the Ps plugin, a Raw image can't/won't be sent from the layer to PAI.
It used to be a simple one click program with processing a raw file out of LrC that did a good job. Now!! They seem to have lost their way, stand alone or plug in. I am looking at winding back a few versions and in the meantime I’m using LrC Denoise more often. The latter never used to be as good. The TL Photo Ai has increased my workflow without any advantage.
I was wondering about this. I shoot wildlife and was scratching my head, cleaning lenses and the works. I just redid two pictures and they are much improved!!!!! What would we do without you!!???
Thanks
Rich
I have been a Topaz user for a couple of yrs, unfortunately I think this version leaves a lot to be desired. I purchased topaz for noise reduction mainly then started to use the sharpening and found it was great for those images that would have been relegated to the scrap heap. But lighting and colour grading no that’s what Lightroom photoshop are used for, and still no full compatibility with Fuji raw images, they should stick to what they did in the past and did it well, hopefully they will get back to their core use again. Hope that made sense. I love your deep dive photoshop TK edits
I only use Photo AI for fixing faces. Otherwise, it's all these quirks that drive me crazy. With my Nikon files, RAW strong does work better than RAW normal in Photo AI. Lightroom's new denoise is as good or better, without the weird artifacts. DxO Raw4 is also very good.
Thanks …are you re using tying this to Topaz ?
In the latest version of Topaz Photo AI ... 3.0 ... when I process a raw image (Sony) from LRClassic using the File > Plug-in Extras method, it has this same issue AND it outputs the file to TIFF (not TIF or DNG). There does not seem to be any way to choose DNG for the output. As a stand-alone, v3.0 still outputs to DNG??
In 3.0.1 I cannot I export to PS. The software just doesn’t work.
Thank you Anthony for a great unbiased review. I don't like this product, it changes color of your photo, it creates blotchy parts where there should be hairs and it makes strange "Paintbrush" strokes, (you can see it on you dog's eye..) I prefer LR if I have to compare, even if it's not that great! Again THANKS!
I preferred the older apps such as denoise but bought the others. Now I went over to Pureraw 4 which is much better for raw wildlife for me.
I still use the old topaz Denoise as I shoot with Fuji, much better than even the newer models, less artifcacts in random spots, and less AI brush strokes where they shouldn't go...
Funnily enough they just came out with v3 - any thoughts?
So agree with your findings, personally I prefer the previous version, just hoping the resolve these problems very very soon
It has seemed that with each release Topaz Photo AI is getting less useful.
Thanks for the work around. I hadn't found it yet but was no longer happy with the results I was getting.
In general, I don't trust Topaz Photo to "open" raw files. EACH editor has its own implementation of how to handle raw files. I also don't use the Adobe profile, you can open the raw files, WITH THE PROFILE, of the camera through photoshop or lightroom. In this way, I NEVER HAD the problem with the noise you present in your video.
The software is now too complicated. This may be my last year with it. I’m happy with LR Classic denoise.
It's fixed in version 3.
Topaz is really killing their products ... I don't even Photo AI anymore because of the weird patterns it creates in the light parts of a photo
Probably an oversight
