I wish I saw this video sooner. I had to read the entire Arch Wiki, install it in a VM, and move it off the VM and into my own system. This video could have saved me a lot of trouble.
archinstall really saves alot of time, this VM had like 4 cores at 3.0GHz. this whole thing took like 12 minutes to install, then i spent another 3 minutes customizing KDE but i cut it from the video
@@bacalhau_seco It's not a "shit distro", though? It's literally just it says, Linux From Scratch. It's not meant for most people, it's not meant to be a daily driver.
i installed arch a few weeks ago on a box i had sitting around in my room. no archinstall, no useful vm features, just an ethernet cable and a dream. it took like 2 hours tops and honestly i dont think it was that bad worst part by far was getting the drivers for some cheap wifi usb adapter thing i had, and of course linux audio
Ngl, i do not use arch linux but i will switch in a little, i think instead of starting with linux mint, pop os etc. , the easy operating systems, we gotta push beginners. If they stay in a comfortable os for a long time they will learn a lot slower because they will assume that its as easy as the os they used, but if we just make them use complicated os'es, they will be forced to learn how to fix everything by themselves in a shorter amount of time, therefore they will be able to use complicated or easy operating systems afterwards and in such a short amount of time.
arch is not a complicated distro, arch can easly be installed in less than 15 minutes with a working DE and drivers, its almost an ootb distro However, distros like mint are not just made for linux noobs, these "noob" distros really dont have anything simpler than "harder" distros. Even gentoo has a live GUI build that can be used without installing. These distros are recomended due to being preconfigured and patched as well as running on stable distros like debian amd ubuntu. This does come at the cost of some drivers and the kernel itself not being optimized or not supporting certain things, but the overall use will be the same for everyone. And also, linux is not a game, people just want a stable OS to complete their tasks and literally not care about it breaking. Rolling release distros most benefit people who game or use modern software on a daly basis.
@@bacalhau_seco Personally I wouldn't call it annoying and slow, the only real waiting you have to do is when you install packages. If you know what you are doing then it's pretty simple, connect to internet (don't even need to if you have ethernet), partitioning, installing essential packages and bootloader and then install whatever else you need like a DE. Obviously to a newbie it can seem annoying but if you can carefully read the Arch install guide then everything should go as intended.
gentoo's installation manual tells you exactly what to do and explains it very well, making gentoo easier than arch since the info is right there. Using gentoo for the first time might be a litle confusing but after understanding flags its way too easy
