No, it doesn't quite work because Denise and Martin are not Victor and Tonya Baxter. I get the Raven Symone reference but the way you tried to lump the characters is a bit off.
There was a scene in this episode when Denice walked out of the kitchen there was Claire standing there looking dead serious at Martin’s mom before the kitchen door closed.
She did but once she realised she was wrong she was dignified and respectful enough to accept lorraine’s explanation and laugh it off together at the end. Pure class from both Ladies.
Agreed. In-laws unless a spouse has the nicest, best in-laws, sometimes or even often dont have anything nice to say about their daughter or son in-laws but that doesnt mean that the husband or wife should tell their spouse every little thing, especially negative thats been said or being said about them and as much as some may think they want to know what their inlaws think of them, if they've said anything negative etc doesnt always serve them well, nor does it help the marriage whatsoever and theres a right and wrong way of telling your spouse their mother, father or both may not fully accept their partner by using tact, care and compassion
I totally understand why Claire was protective over her child but missus Kendall had right to be protective over hers when his first wife abandoned him and their daughter
“These children ought to be thankful they have mothers like us who can put up with them.” “I want to thank you because we are the best thing that ever happened to them.” I love that part, and mothers everywhere were nodding in agreement. ❤
Lorraine didn't disrespect Denise, she was concerned about the well being of her grandchild and the rash decision making of her son. Maybe he should have called out his mom for the marriage/college comment, you're right there; but he is totally at fault for misinforming his wife and misquoting his mom.
@@turbojon8117Well maybe Lorraine said what she said and felt how she felt what she told Martin about the college/marriage comment because of his poor choices when it came to his first marriage and relationships with women in his romantic/private life. What she said was out of anger at Martin, not Denise. You got to understand where she's coming from and have some compassion for her.
Let be real here … her “cleaning up” the “i can’t stand this/her” conversation is not the issue because it was hearsay her saying to Denise’s face that “i hope you approach this more serious than your college career” is what Claire should have READ her about. Also, if Claire is your mother you aren’t passive and you would have read Mrs. Kendall when she said that slick shit yourself to begin with.
I love The Cosby Show good role model that is what you call American Dream All American dream the man that is Flowing with milk and honey soal here and there and everywhere God Bless America
Exactly! My mom said if she were Miss Clair she would have stopped Mrs. Kendall right at 3:38 and said “Up up up…my daughter has nothing to do with your son’s first marriage. Just like how you have nothing to do with MY daughter’s education background and her choices made before your son’s CURRENT marriage. Let this be the first and last time we have this discussion.” and end it there.
@@rg8152 No it had nothing to do with Denise she was worried that Martin was gonna find himself in the same situation he did with the first one who Abandoned him and their daughter
Denise is flakey. Not only that but she is acting like a child in this situation. She wants to be grown and still be a baby living with her parents at the same time. That's why she sabotaged that living on the Navy base
When she told Claire that she "forgot" to call to confirm the housing arrangements, that was annoying. Then, she wonders why her mother-in-law is suspicious of her.
You both need to grow up and stop being judgemental and critical of Denise because of choices in life. She said in one episode college was not for her because doesn't belong there and in another episode she admitted to making the mistake of not contacting Martin's Naval Base about the housing she apologized for that and was remorse about it. You both act like you yourselves never done anything wrong or made bad decisions which I'm sure you both have done worse than Denise as we all have flaws and are not perfect.
Martin was a flake. Why would he tell his wife that his mother said she couldn't stand her? This is not even considering the fact that he completely misinterpreted what his mother actually said. Even if she truly felt that way, he shouldn't have instigated drama between his wife and mother. If she had actually said that to him, Martin should have instead defended Denise and kept that conversation private. Honestly, I hope Martin and Denise's marriage didn't work out in the end. Their relationship was built on sand.
I can understand Lorraine's concern. Your Son married a woman who left him shortly after their daughter is born. Then he doesn't give himself a chance to readjust as a divorced father. He meets Denise who is just as unbalanced. Who would have taken care of Olivia when Martin was out to Sea. He needed Denise more than she needed him.
I didn't like this scene. There's a problem that needs to be addressed. Martin told Denise that his mother SAID she can't stand her. The mother said that's not true. If the mother wasn't lying then Martin was and made Denise feel terrible. I would talk to him about the values in not lying, learning to communicate and ask why did he say that.
This is the best episode of the later years in the cisby showw its such a shame that bill turned into the pug he is. Such a great show its so uncomfortable watching them now.
The iconic , beautiful Nancy Wilson. Classic ❤️❤️
Claire gave that lioness look protecting her cubs.....
When 2 intelligent, mature adults speak...it's a beautiful thing.

What I love is that they showed and gave an example of how both sides should handle a situation like this. Very classy!
This misunderstanding was all Martin's fault. Martin was wrong to say "My mother can't stand you" to Denise.
