I watched it in silent mode just reading the captions. And it did not diminish the high quality content of this video about Diwal. I am grateful to you for featuring such enriching subject. More power! ❤
Ilonggo here, I remember the first time I put one of these in my mouth. It was magical, you immediately realize how different this is from your run of the mill talaba or green shells.

There are probably hundreds of very unique fishing techniques in the Philippines that have rarely been documented and likely do not exist in other countries. The pole method here is fascinating. Another one I remember from my readings is using like a small float attached to fishing lines on a long string drawn by running across the shore, almost like a kite. IIRC, they were used to catch predatory near-shore fish like trevallies (talakitok).
Diwal is best slightly grilled or steamed. That’s it! No fancy stuff like butter, garlic, herbs. Before cooking you allow the diwal to rest for a day or so to make them spit out the mud.
I recall, in 2009, first time i went home to iloilo last time i visited my province 1996, we had a first taste of diwal...not sure if its the same with they used to call angel shell....back then, it was smaller but it was white colored shells tasted really good. It was found only in roxas city. Seasonal kind of shellfish. I came back in iloilo 2022, wow, it was really big and it was being cultured now in iloilo. No longer seasonal...all year round .....size was overwhelming....tasted good esp baked with cheese....
pwude naman siguro i culture yan..kuha ng semilya at hanap ng coast na pwude doon sila lalaki..parang nakakita ako ng ganyang food docu sa somewhere in europe
Na try na ng SEAFDEC and other aquaculture/conservation groups since the 1980's mag culture nyan pero hindi talaga pwede eh....well, for now. Baka in the future mka kita din ng paraan.
Its Valyadolid... Not Vayadoyid ... That's our neighboring town... Where majority of seafoods we consume is from that place. Before regulating almost everyday my mother cook Diwal... Now because of regulating the harvest it's very expensive... But its good since this will give Diwal time to reproduce.
Yet, I still hope that our people can find ways that these clams can be cultured so the next generation can try these Diwal clams.
When I was young local vendors would deliver diwal to my dad thrice or four times a week now they rarely bring diwal, if they do it's only a handful nalang 😢

Clearly you are mis informed Erwan . The most expensive sea food is a fish called pigek in the brackish water of Rio de Grande de Mindanao in the Cotabato City. Ask for your researchers to dig info further before making assumptions. You guys clearly don’t the Philippines well enough
Erwans' content is thoroughly searched. Maraming Kang nalalaman at na didiskubre. It's highly educational. Thank ypu sir

I'm very very happy that they're regulating it. The LGU there deserve an award or at least recognition for what they did.

It's seasonal and can be found only in Negros Occidental particulary Valladolid and Capiz in Panay Island that's why it's expensive.
Ilonggo here, I remember the first time I put one of these in my mouth. It was magical, you immediately realize how different this is from your run of the mill talaba or green shells.
I find it interesting nga wala vernacular ang tahong sa hiligaynon, kag ngaa green shells ang tawag kag indi mussels. 😊

These can also be found in Roxas City-the seafood capital of the PH. #facts
Ngayon lang ako nakakakita ng ganyang clam sa tagal ko tumira sa tabing dagat noon. Kung titingnan mo siya sa malayo, para siyang puso ng saging hehe.

Americans... Spaniards..latin americans.. pronounce "LL" as "Y"....Pancho Villa as Pancho Viya
As far as I know, Diwal originated from the waters of Capiz. 😀

mas marami dito sa capiz....😊
Better way to clean the diwal is to let it sit on water and it will spit all the sand out.
Mura lang sa capiz lalo na pag season
THERE SEEMS TO BE SOME TRANSLATION ERRORS IM FILIPINO ALSO.
