Hey Jeff, My name is Asis. I recently started workingout again after 2 years and I have been Trying follow all your workouts. Its been 2 weeks in and i am already seing alot of improvement. Today was my chest day and I saw this video and tried it and man it really works, this was the first time I litrally felt my chest getting heat up. So thank you so much for sharing all your knowledge. you have been very helpful. God bless you and keep doing what you are doing.
joaomanaia it can be many reasons. For example, someone might not want to see a chest video because they already have good chest. Some people got but hurt because they think they know more than Jeff. Some people straight out think Jeff is making training “complicated”. I have seen so many RUclips comments, not on this channel, say, just hit chest hard, go do (*insert a common chest exercise) and that’s it.
C'mon I love Jesse, he's great comic relief and he uses all the knowledge Jef gives us and you can See it works by lookin at his improvements which happened quite fast imo
I like how protecting the shoulders made it as one of the ten. As far as I know, shoulders are the second most common joints/areas to get injured in the weight room (with the lower back being #1). I’ve been dealing with shoulder problems for over 10 years. Jeff’s videos have great shoulder prehab exercises; and one of the best things I ever could have learned, about how to keep training chest with a chronically bad shoulder, was from his video on the reverse-grip bench press. What a truly amazing exercise for those with bad shoulders; and, as a bonus, it works the upper chest, in addition to the rest of the chest.
Normally I hammer away at the press with some dumbbells but today I changed pace. I went slow and made sure the contraction started with my chest EVERY time and let me tell it hits a whole lot different than trying to go heavy. Feels right, your videos have really helped me get in shape, thank you Jeff Cavalier, Athlean-X.com!
I like the one about initiating the contraction from the chest because, as research has shown (on incline bench presses), the shoulders can SO EASILY take over (and it’s very likely for this to happen, if you aren’t careful). It seems to tie into the whole mind-muscle connection with the chest - consciously trying to use your chest to press the weights can help keep the shoulders less involved. I see how, on drop sets, it’s easier to contract the chest more because the weights are lighter. Great video..
You two are awesome to watch. I feel like Jesse makes a lot of these videos reach a much wider audience. Thanks for the tips y’all are so helpful and smart.
Thanks for introducing me to Face Pulls. Was definitely a missing component in my workouts and it's now my favorite exercise. Showed it to my buddies and we all agree. They hit a lot of things while helping do a little maintenance on your muscles. I also do them as part of my warmup because they get me nice and limber in the shoulders. My group half-jokingly says they make you feel sexy and thus started calling them "makeovers" and "putting your makeup on" because of the facial motion lol. And really for a upper workout lacking them, adding them is in fact a makeover. Made drastic gains after adding them in.
I incorporated a lot of these into my chest workout and they have really made a difference. Love this channel! Thanks for all the great advice and insight!
Jeff, I know you get a lot of comments but I hope you read this one. I am 28 years old and have always been in good shape but ever since I discovered your channel I have never in my life been more lean and defined. I also just feel and look amazing and I can see it on other peoples faces too. For the first time in my life I feel like an athlete. Thanks for all your content Jeff
I did floor flies, dumbell presses, decline dumbell presses, cable crossovers, squeezing my chest with bands and plates, incline barbells presses for chest yesterday. Some of these great excersises I learned from the one and only Jeff. Thanks for everything you beautiful man.
You have given so much great info, but also it’s confusing because there is so much. I’m 41 and slowly getting into the gym. Always trying to find the best workouts and the correct ways to perform them. Your info has helped dramatically
Sometimes I forget you guys are in CT! Met you briefly on a plane a few months ago from FL to CT and it took all I had to not bombard you with questions. Still very happy to meet you and snag a pic! You guys rock!
In one of the programs a while back Jeff covered the benefits of unilateral movements, and I have to say it's revolutionized my chest workouts in particular. One-arm benching, flat, incline and decline, one arm pec dec and the one arm cable work has done more to add mass and shape to my chest that all the heavy bench pressing I've done for years. I've bought his programs as well. I've unlearned a lot of stupid in a very short while and have corrected mistakes that were causing me shoulder and wrist problems.
I think it's awesome how much content Jeff makes available for free through this channel. It makes me wonder--have any of you purchased his programs? Seems like you have a lot of what you need right here unless you wanted that next level of guided programs and nutrition so to speak. I honesty wouldn't think twice about giving him my money for programs but I'd like to hear some feedback from viewers for anyone who has given it a shot.
Hey Jeff, love your videos first and foremost! I watch them every day while rebounding before the gym. You and Jesse make a great duo, I can see your education is working as Jesse is making some solid progress. I was wondering what your education has to say about rebounding (jumping on a mini trampoline)?
I’m a huge fan of the channel and have incorporated many changes to my workouts over the last 2 years through your educating us....at 54 yrs old, 6’1, 215lbs., 12% bf, I’m in much better shape than most of the much younger guys in the gym! Keto saved my life post divorce and I’ve never felt better, ever! Thank you Jeff...! That being said......Get a tanning bed or start spray tanning! People that talk shit about crossfit are usually the ones that would be out of breath within the first 30 seconds. Each type of training has it's benefits and weaknesses over the other training types.
Great advice. As someone who has started training again after a long unhealthy break and being very in tune with body and form this makes so much sense compared to old school form for bench press and adduction exercises, etc. Awesome.
these "really are" the ten commandments of chest training. All i can say is, thank god for Jeff and his disciple :D. ive learnt so much over time, now after nearly 18 months of shoulder problems are gradually subsiding, im going to implement these teachings. thank you guys!
You probably won't read this, but I tried the crossover and ground flies and the lifts for chest and felt it a lot more than my normal flat, incline, cord flies, and bench flies. Thanks!
Hi Jeff & the athlean team. Just recently found you on the net. Loving the info, loving the different cognitive aspects of skills & functionality you provide to the average Jo. Great stuff Athlean team, avid watcher of your content now
He actualy was 100% accurate about my chest workout BUT i have to say ive been training 3+ years and i have experimented with various chest exercises mostly shown from this channel (all i know is from this channel btw) and in my opinion the basics like flat/incline/decline press , dips and cable crossover if done RIGHT and by that i mean actually activate the chest, contract from 0-100 and control the weight you can do miracles even if you repeat the same exercises over and over
It's hard to argue with Jeff given how good he looks, but Progressive Overload is the most important aspect, and keeping it simple as you rightly point out.. Most of his commandments I try to follow, but stuff like Drop sets, pullovers, changing order, accessory lifts.. I just think those things are not nearly as important as getting stronger over time. The isometrics is great though. I've been doing that with weighted chins (just hanging with a lot of weight) to try strengthen the lats and improve my ability to get out of the hole. Going to try that with the cable crossover machine now.
“Protect the shoulder at all cost” I need to learn this the hard way before I watch this video. I was hitting my chest 3 days ago, ignoring weird feeling in the shoulder. Now still can’t go back to the gym till this day and it hurts when I sleep on the side. No gain whatsoever. Thanks anyway Jeff, better late than never!
thou shall not throw 300lbs on the bar+the pad then proceed to lower yourself 2 inches then he left the weights on the bar! Man that so irked me when I saw it earlier.
Yeah, I'm one of those who messed up my shoulder training chest. Now I am having major difficulties training chest at all, 'cause of the pain I get in my shoulder. Hell, I can barely even do bicep curls with a barbell above 40 kg 'cause of the strain. Been over a year since I hurt myself, and it won't go away through rest, so I've been focusing on what I CAN do. Be careful when doing chest. A small shoulder slip while benching can mess you up big time.
Hey jeff, do a video on exercise and being sick. when its okay and also best foods to help cure you and prevent sickness! im sick now and i guess ur not as psychic as i thot

11:32 is the closest thing we will ever see of a real life Super Saiyan
Yeah, I'm one of those who messed up my shoulder training chest. Now I am having major difficulties training chest at all, 'cause of the pain I get in my shoulder. Hell, I can barely even do bicep curls with a barbell above 40 kg 'cause of the strain. Been over a year since I hurt myself, and it won't go away through rest, so I've been focusing on what I CAN do.
Be careful when doing chest. A small shoulder slip while benching can mess you up big time.
