The rotation to turn on is oretty smart. Same as my 100pros. If you have your flash set to stay on permanently and it accedentaly switches on in your bag you could quite easily end up with a dead battery if left over night. And those things take a while to charge.
I definitely get the concept behind it but with the case we put on which has a bumper on the back, it is a little cumbersome. We were using it last night and my assistant and second said the same thing, it kinda slows you down. Again, not a complete fumble or deal breaker but for our purposes, the switch was a better option. If you haven't checked out our video on the protective case we use, I highly recommend checking it out. It's saved our 200s multiple times ruclips.net/video/fnwOQ8ao9e4/видео.htmlsi=H9fhS5ZmmHctqAJ_
It's great to see how other people use the same tools that you use. You spoke about ther barebulb. I got the first evolv200 when they first came out I ordered 2 covers for the barebulb it's AD-S15 and on location Godox also has an 18inch pop-up softbox that I remove the cover and attach the softbox. But your workflow maybe different from mine, just thought I would tell you how I use my barebulb safely.
My man 😎 Thank you! I'll check out that softbox for sure. The cover can also come in handy cause MagMod might be sending their softbox to try out as well and obviously the barebulb is better for that. I appreciate the feedback and suggestions Jeffrey. Have an awesome day!
Great stuff! I'm looking fwd to eventually switching to Godox/Flashpointe. My current strobes have the power button plus turn the wheel too, I guess it's so they don't accidentally turn on in your bag if something hits the button.
Honestly, dude, use the ones that you have and run them into the ground. Once everything breaks, then come join us lol and yeah, I can see the logic behind that, but I think the switch that was on the side on the older one was a better set up. It doesn’t kill it completely but it definitely isn’t an improvement. The other things though, nice little upgrades
I have to confess that I am an AD200 Pro addict, too 😉 In my case, two Peli 1550 cases contain 6 AD200 Pro plus 4 AD-B2 plus extension cables and accessories each. My love for the flash tube head led me to discover the Godox AD-S15, an metal tube that provides protection for the flash bulb. Originally designed for the AD-180/360, it is a snug fit but has proven to be a reliable protector for my flash bulbs. Despite heavy use, I haven’t broken a single one, thanks to the AD-S15. I can’t find the AD-S15 on the official website, but some dealers seem to have it in stock. If you are interested in getting one but can’t get your hands on it, please get in touch with me, and we will try to find one for you.
Dude! That is awesome! Thank you for sharing that with me. Lemme dig around and see if I can get my hands on one to post a video. That’s a great find and workaround. I wish I could say the same thing, that I’ve never broken an AD200, but I’ve gone through a few of them 😂
Thank you for watching! Yeah, it’s definitely not something I would rush to get, but as I mentioned, if your current unit has gotten a lot of mileage, not a bad idea to get. They definitely improved on a lot of things, but it’s more evolutionary than revolutionary
i have 2 ad200's, first versions, and love them. i am pretty easy on the lights, use maybe once/twice a week shooting hummingbirds. i have never used a modeling lamp so i don't now what i am missing. the screen looks great! but, i only look at it once to check channel and group. i do like the color lights for different channels, i would use that. but, i would have to also buy the newest little trigger and i already have the other 3! also, i use their extension heads and i see the flash head won't fit due to new contacts for modeling lite, so that sucks,, for me. i am very, very glad to see they are keeping the 200's in their line up! if/when one of mine die, i will upgrade, but i am not too excited. love your videos! keep 'em comming!
That’s exactly what I was trying to get across in the video! If you already have working AD200, there’s no rush for you to go and pick this one up. They did some pretty neat improvements, but it’s not anything that game changing. And I completely agree with you, once I set up what I need to set up, I rarely look at the back of the screen since everything is being controlled by the remote. And I posted a review on the newest remote And you’re definitely not missing out. In my opinion. I feel like the XPro two is where they got it perfect. Lastly, I love Belize! My family and I lived there for a few months when I was little. I don’t remember too much, but I have some memories of it being very pretty!
Thanks for the review. Just went ahead and ordered one. For the MagShoe, do you use the included 1/4-20 to attach? I can never seem to get them AD200 to line up correctly with the MagShoe.
Thank you for watching! I do use the attachment. It take a little bit of adjusting but eventually you get it to line up. Sometimes it’s a tiny tiny bit off but not so much where it’ll throw off the direction of light
You know that’s one of the things they might have improved. It did look different under there when you look at the bottom. There’s a couple of indentations that the old one didn’t have so I’m assuming there’s more metal under there. Good call
I can definitely appreciate the two step ON system. i use my ad200pro allllll the time and one thing i have done in the past is accidentally left it on or turned it on and drained some much needed juice in my bag.
It’s funny that you say that because I’ve had five assistants work with me since I posted this video and every single one of them hates this feature. I think because we have the protective case on it, we never turn it on accidentally. There’s like a little quarter inch Depth that prevents it from turning on. And we never carry our flashes raw dog style 😂 I was gonna post a video about that and I know I’m gonna get a lot of hate for it, but that has to be my least favorite feature about this new flash. Do you have a case on yours?

Is Godox using the same bulb? They make the metal AD-S15 Bulb Protector which I wish was provided with the kit. Not sure if it is compatible with this new head. Do you hand hold the MagShoe a lot?
