It's for mental health.
So my mental health is good.
I am writing a book about that experience.
The title of the book is ``I want to quit being a slave to my smartphone.''
My dream is to someday publish a translated version in English, but for now there is only a Japanese version.
This is Japan's newest flip phone.
The name is Mode 1 Toro 2.

I love the look of Sharp Aquos phones, since I don’t particularly like the faux leather feel; those are super sleek but, unfortunately, are Japanese as well. It’s so hard to find cute flip phones outside of Japan! De todos modos, saludos desde Italia y congratulaciones para tu buenísimo inglés!

(Now I have a Kyocera Gratina in addition to this one)
There are a lot of great dumbphones in Japan.
Unfortunately, smartphones have become mainstream, so I'm very sad that dumbphones are no longer seen.
The design is cute
And it's good for digital detox.

How exactly is this supposed to stop your digital addiction, when it literally does everything your old phone did?

As you said, unlike the Dumbphone, which only allows calls and emails, this phone can have apps installed on it.
So it may seem a little different from a "complete digital detox".
Why do people use foldable phones like this...
① With a foldable phone, there are buttons, so there is a distance between you and the screen. This puts you at a distance from the screen, so you don't have to immerse yourself in the screen.
② Unlike a smartphone, it is a little inconvenient to operate, so even if you have the same apps installed, I feel that you are less dependent on it. (There is no clear data, it is just my personal experience.)
③ A foldable phone can be folded up with a bang. This allows you to put an end to a situation, so you can avoid endlessly looking at the screen like with a smartphone.
That's about it!
Japanese foldable phones in the 2000s could access the Internet, watch TV, and watch videos, just like a smartphone. You could also play games.
Even so, I didn't have such a serious dependency.

I just never personally felt like the buttons were the reason I get sucked into a screen.
For me it's more about the content that is calling out to me. I got addicted to the internet as a teen on my Sony T310, which had a tiny screen and buttons.

I have found the kyocera ky-42c which is a new flip phone released last year 2023 too but it does not have a touch screen. I am deciding between these two.

hi mikan-san! i am the exact same feeling as you! i was sick of being addicted to my smartphone, and i have just ordered this phone from Japan to my country in australia, i had to use a middle forwarding service. i HOPE it works with my network in australia. I am visiting japan and maybe living there with my sickness still, in april or may, would love to meet up with you as you have a similar mindset to me about the phones and being a slave to the phone, i find it exhausting.
