I backpack solo all the time. Not many women my age like backpacking. I love it, but the hubby would feel better if I were out there with more than my SPOT. I sometimes envy you guys having each other for company
Hello my hiking friend, thanks for sharing your fine video. Welcome to the Lake Tahoe area. From the Sacramento valley it's only a two hour drive to the Tahoe area. For decades I have backpacked, hiked, skied and trout fished around Tahoe. Your video brought back some pleasant memories. All the best to you and your family. 🤗
Cool thanks for taking us along! Brings back some great memories for me. I visited there a few years ago. A buddy of mine lived in Gardnerville NV and he took me to South Tahoe and that area. He actually gave me a book of the Tahoe Rim Trail when I was there. He also took me south of there to The Mokelumne Wilderness where we camped for a few nights. Did some fishing at Blue Lakes and also did some hiking. Actually was on the PCT for a very small part of it. Ran into a HUGE black bear twice. Once on the hike in and again on the way back out. This bear took off both times even though it was feeding on a dead deer. The only time I have ever really been a little scared was on the way back when we did see it again. I was expecting to see it and we did. We did have my buddy's dog with us so maybe that's why the bear took off like it did. But that area is so amazing I have to go back. The really sad news is I won't be going back to visit my buddy. He has ALS and has moved back to Nashville where his family is, since he cannot take care of himself anymore :-(. Awesome fact about my buddy. He's a direct descendant of Davy Crockett. Has the papers and all. Davy Crockett was like his great great great grandfather. Sorry for the book I just got caught in the remembrance.
Schill Brothers Outdoors oh yeah, Desolation is amazing. I lived out there for about 10 years and loved exploring the Sierra. Desolation is one of those special places, another favorite of mine is Ansel Adams wilderness.
As others have said, i love going solo! You set your pace, breaks when you want... And all you have to worry about is you... Very relaxing and allows you to really 'air out". Good call on the in-reach,!
That area has been my playground for the last ten years! I have stood on the summit of 10/11 of the Tahoe 10'ers, and a bunch of 9k peaks as well! Glad you enjoyed your time there!
First Time?! Oh my gosh! Solo backpacking is awesome! A thru hike of the TRT is on my list. I've already hiked in the area, but I'll be back again in October and I'm hoping it won't be too cold for some solo backpacking :) I LOVE that area! Had no idea there were bear lockers. That makes things easier. It must've been fun to film by yourself. I like the tent snap haha
TRT is a great trail. Next time you’re out here in California though you must hike the High Sierra Trail. Glad you enjoyed it and can’t wait to see your Desolation Wilderness report!
We did the Desolation Wilderness in late July. Lake Aloha was incredible - easily my favorite campsite to date. The mosquitos at Lake Gilmore were surreal. We couldn’t even take off our bug nets to eat. They shrugged off our bug spray and DEET. Wish I would have brought my M50. You guys inspired me to finally start recording and uploading my trips in the future. Shout out to Ohio. I grew up in NE Ohio.
I have enjoyed you videos in the past, but I have to say I enjoyed your solo hike. Your vibe is so much more contemplative. Although I can tell you missed having Andy with you. God bless.
Awesome!! I did a 4 day on the Tahoe Rim Trail/PCT with my nephew 2 weeks ago in Desolation Wilderness and headed back there next Thursday for a 4 day solo trip. Luv it~
Glad to see you enjoyed it, i'm sure you know you had just a small sampling of what the basin has to offer, especially when you get into Desolation Wilderness. Sounds as if you'll be back... hopefully you consider taking the trail from Echo lakes up past Aloha, Heather and Susie lakes, over and farther into desolation, you could just make it a single night and pop out at Eagle falls trail head, or go farther to Tahoe city. In anycase, comeback, enjoy and keep shooting great videos.
Great vid buddy! Glad you got to do it solo ... everyone needs at least one under their belt. It really sucks if you have to cut and gather all your own firewood!!😊😊 Looking forward to the inlaw version! I was astonished that I didn't see any Doritos!!!😎😎
That was fantastic brother! I bet you did miss Andy when you where setting up shots!! Respect on going solo. Something I’ve never done myself...not sure I could convince my wife to allow it😂. Take care brother!
Loved the video don't know if you know this but you can do small section of the PCT from Donner Summit to Tahoe City too but if you knew disregard just didn't know if you realised that and there is a couple of Sierra club huts you can stay at maybe next time with Andy, but if you knew that I was just trying to suggest another idea for trips in future to sister.
Love my Ursack. I bought mine at a Columbus REI actually, when I was visiting back in May. It's like a lazy man's bear bag, but even more effective! More than worth the extra weight, in my opinion.
This is such a great video...even though it's Andy-less. You truly captured the beauty of this place. How good are you with that Garmin Inreach? I have one, but need a tutorial.
Glad to see you doing some solo backpacking. I love the Garmin too!! Awesome Drone footage bro. Awesome campsite area. Did you have to pay for a permit for the campsite? The scenery out there is incredible. Really cool video. Enjoyed it 👍
Great video! I'm a solo backpacking fan, but I do agree that backpacking is a lot more fun with other people. Killer footage! What camera were you using? I love that shot of the ground where it kept shifting the focus. Maybe your best quality video yet!
#TrekkingPoles: insert hand Down through the loop, the twist so the strap is under the space between your thumb and forefinger. Now you dont have to grip your poles and if you need to bear weight, it's all in place. (Cross country ski tip)
is this your first time done the 180 miles tahoe solo trip? wonder what it takes for solo to do this 180 miles? never done any trail greater than 11 miles, but really wanna try this
I enjoyed your video, I have been a hiker and backpacker for many years, One thing I must warn you about, you like me have light blond hair and complexion, and in my youth I never wore a hat when hikong. In my 40's I suffered because of that, I developed "BASAL CELL " eruptions and through 20 years I had to have many of them removed. So please take care of yourself and wear a hat when you go hiking, and for gosh sake please put your cap on with the sunshade over you eyes ! Not backwards.

Nice job! Great footage! Would love to get out there sometime. The drone footage is a nice addition!
Good photograhy. Probably your best trip video. Looks like the trail is well traveled and well maintained.
Nice! I did some trailwork up there building the trail above Incline Village about 20 years ago. I am planning on thru-hiking it next summer!
Nice!!! That place is incredible. We'll def be back. The desolation wilderness (next vid) was even cooler
Schill Brothers Outdoors oh yeah, Desolation is amazing. I lived out there for about 10 years and loved exploring the Sierra. Desolation is one of those special places, another favorite of mine is Ansel Adams wilderness.
Schill Brothers Outdoors I’m looking forward to your next video! Thanks!

Ohhh!! Exciting! Watching now! Haven't done my first solo yet!

Great video. I love the Tahoe National Forest. Hikes to Paradise Lake and Warren Lake are also worth doing as well.
Dude that is a perfect solo backpacking trip
The scenery the video is fantastic
Such beauty abounds

Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!
Great video and congrats on your 1st solo trip! Always enjoy you guys keep up the good work!

Thanks and enjoyed your update! Tell me more about your GPS locater and why you chose it ?

We are very fortunate on the west coast. Lots of beautiful areas to hike.
Solo is definitely more of a challenge in some ways. Looked like a nice place to add to the bucket list!
Great video. Im still not brave enough to do s solo overnighter yet. Hoping to get there soon though. Glad you had fun and got some views
I prefer solo trips. Perfect for serene moments of self reflection. But I'm sure having a cool brother like you do also makes for great company!
Great vid buddy! Glad you got to do it solo ... everyone needs at least one under their belt. It really sucks if you have to cut and gather all your own firewood!!😊😊

Great video kev! Oma’s whistle is good karma
Great video. I am looking at the TRT for a thru next summer
Congrats Kevin on your solo! Very envious of location 😀
Nice trip. Thanks for sharing.

What an awesome trail! Nice video!

Nice ! Now I have to do it also. I have family out there too. Maybe do it after the AT. ☘🍀
looks like it wouldn't have been tough to get hammock to work with maybe a 20' strap but the tent looks so much less stressful
Great video. Cool scenery. ✌️
I need to get out West!!!
#metoo
Fabulous solo!
What were the regulations on using your drone? Beautiful footage.
Looks wonderful!
Enjoyed watching the personality brother solo, though I missed the dour brother a little bit, need that balance in life !
I'm planning to thru hike the TRT in two weeks! It's beautiful out there.
I'm jealous - it's incredible
Looks beautiful out there
Love it! Just gorgeous!
@18:25 you filled up on water. Is that brown water in you bottle from the pond or is it coffee
It's mio water flavoring
Great video! I really want to thru-hike this trail sometime. How did you hold the camera so steadily when you were hiking/talking? Is that the M50?
No hammock?
This is such a great video...even though it's Andy-less. You truly captured the beauty of this place. How good are you with that Garmin Inreach? I have one, but need a tutorial.

what was the phone app you used?

Thanks! Canon M50 w/EF-M 22mm f/2
What pack are you using for this trip?
#TrekkingPoles: insert hand Down through the loop, the twist so the strap is under the space between your thumb and forefinger. Now you dont have to grip your poles and if you need to bear weight, it's all in place. (Cross country ski tip)
Also helpful if it's cold, because gripping makes your fingers cold
I've been wondering about the Duplex tent and whether or not you used Permethrin on it? Would permethrin even work with that material?
Can you tell me what app you used? Would be very appreciated !!
What is the name of the app you used?
Very nice video. When will you get a cnoc vecto bag? Having to scoop into a evernew takes forever!
Scoop. Repeat. Lol
Excellent video as always! I'm gonna pull the trigger on the Lite AF and want to ask your thoughts fanny pack or hip belt with pockets?
Solo? Proud of you! 😉
i prefer going solo, your own pace, stop when you want.Nice video.
My first and majority of my thru-hikes have been solo... I still don't know what I like best?
What.. no Doritos? Nice views. It is strange to see a Schill Brothers video without Andy.
Beautiful
is this your first time done the 180 miles tahoe solo trip? wonder what it takes for solo to do this 180 miles? never done any trail greater than 11 miles, but really wanna try this
Don't go alone... go Soloooo 🤙🏕🎥👍😎
What drone are you using?
Did you have to get a permit in order to camp at the lake?
You self-register when you get there (no permit needed ahead of time)
Schill Brothers Outdoors Nice! That’s good to know!
Funny, since I am the opposite. Never done anything but solo. Probably why I like to log miles rather then camp.
I’ve only ever done solo. Is it because nobody is crazy enough to go with me? Or is it I don’t have any friends? 😆
Nice!!
Only one thing is missing from this trip....It is definitely not Andy...the hammock.
Agreed. Tons of awesome trees. You’d sleep much better elevated. 😎
Get hot lips silicone for that cup edge , keeps you from getting 1st degree burns when drinking that first cup of java in the morning!
All trails is one of the best apps. Check it out

Drone 😞
next in the series is an Andy feature called I DIDN'T WANT TO GO ANYWAY and it's a single shot of a blankie fort with a sign that says "No Kevins!"
Watson lake is horrible for hikers to get a good night sleep. Lots of drunk party people like to show up there.
I had some of that :/
I bet Andy is salty.
What was the phone app you used?
