Uptil today, We have made 4 Sashiko Stories.
    • Sashiko Story ~ to lea...
Writing a script, practice to talk, takes more than 50 shooting (takes), and editing them with watching all the takes… It is my new challenge to give up all of these process, To Share the Sashiko We Practice more.
It is outside of my comfortable zone.
I would rather be prepared (or correct as many mistakes as I can) before showing it to the public, yet sharing a few stories every year wouldn’t be speedy enough to share the message I have.
If you have a specific topic you want me to cover and Sashiko and Japanese Culture, please leave a comment here.
For other questions, I may not be able to reply to your comment. I read them with appreciation. I simply may not have time to reply. If you would like to get the answers, please consider joining the community in Patreon.
For those who are kind to support our activity, please also visit our Patreon site to give us the donation (or support with returns). It is very helpful for us to focus on Sashiko.
For the Sashiko technical questions, you can check other videos on this channel.

I’m looking forward to watching more of your videos like this one. Always interested in learning more about other cultures. No need to apologize for anything. Your videos are wonderful and your English speaking is amazing. It’s a difficult language to learn and you are speaking it very well. Thank you for sharing a part of your history.

Hello, I am rediscovering your videos and Sashiko. I purchased supplies and towel from you several years ago. Due to health problems and moving I had to stop. But now I have "rediscovered" Sashiko . In this video you talk about the attachment one gets to the fabric as you work with it. I am a hand quilter so I know exactly what you mean. When I have spent over a year making a quilt it has become a part of me. I can look at it and remember what was happening in my life when I stitched that block or that area. They do become my "children". I recently made a quilt for a young friend who was diagnosed with cancer. With every stitch I was praying for him, praying for healing. Hoping when he covered himself with it during his chemo treatments that he would feel my love for him. I babysat him from when he was a baby until 11 years old so he is like a son to me. He is in his 30's now. And I am happy to say he is cancer free! I would be interested in your online class. I am currently working on some pieces I purchased from a quilt show. I take it with me to dr appointments as I need to keep my hands busy. My question for you, if I am understanding what you said in this video, is, am I disrespecting the Japanese culture by saying I am stitching Sashiko? Would it be more correct for me to say I am stitching Sashiko style? I don't want to offend or disrespect your culture. Thank you so much for sharing your stories with us. I am learning so much. I am glad you feel that it is your calling to share Sashiko. If we don't share our heritage, eventually it will be gone. I am part Cherokee and I am trying to learn the ways of my Native American culture and pass it on to my children and my grandchildren. I am sorry this comment is soooo long. Hope you have a great day!

Thank you for the comment & welcome back to Sashiko to "rediscover". Fabrics talks. Life can be difficult sometimes, and it was the same regardless of eras - just different difficulties (& happiness).
To answer your question, please try to read my articles on Upcyclestitches.com. I have provided my answers there. In short, you are not disrespecting the Japanese culture because you wonder if you are disrespecting or not. It is "the care" I draw the boundaries. So no worry. You can call your stitching Sashiko, and no one will be offended. I will stand by you if someone claims you are disrespectful.
Have a good day & sorry for the late reply.

"sorry the cat is talking" that was so adorable ❤️
This was a great video once again, you have such interesting insight about things, thank you for sharing all this with us!

It brought a bit of a smile to my face when you mentioned how Japanese people say: "I'm sorry" left, right, and center. It's a bit like that in Sweden where I come from, only there it's: "Tack!" or "Tack så mycket" meaning "Thanks," "thank you," or "thank you very much!" left, right, and center. Despite being in Canada 41 years, this habit of constantly saying: "Thank you" stays with me and is impossible to erase 🙂

I am interested in sashiko’s part in Japanese culture and your videos are the best I’ve seen on RUclips. I admire you so much for speaking in your second language. I am learning Japanese and I would be so scared to try speaking in a video! Great work!

I look forward to more - for those of us who have no second language I am in awe! Thank you!

Thank you for taking the time to share these stories with us. I appreciate how difficult it is because I have lived and worked abroad, but I can tell you that, at least for me, throwing out "the script" and just speaking really improved my skills in my second language. I hope it will be the same for you. (And "cat" is my third language--I have four.) I think perhaps your use of "sorry" is a bit like how speakers of US English use "excuse me." I will also say "excuse me" in a store if there are people standing near something I want to see or need to get. I don't feel that they need to grant me a pardon, but rather it's a conventionally polite way of telling them "get out of my way."

There is a bit difference between "Sorry (from Japanese)" and "Excuse me" from my experience living in the US. I will talk about it later as well.

The Japanese seem to respect courtesy a great deal, it is a shame that the modern culture of so many countries has thrown aside courtesy in favour of the brash and arrogant approach. In my own humble opinion, these natural good manners, typical of the way I was raised (in UK) are not something to apologise for but something to emulate.
Have you considered trying to research the history of a specific piece of Boro work and telling us it’s story? I think it would make a fine addition to your stories. 🖖🏻

Hi. There are several manufactures providing the needles and thimbles. However, I strongly recommend using the one we use - You can get it from our online store - upcyclestitches.com/

Hello. I appreciate your follow up but what I use in the video, the needle and the thimble, are not Clover products. We use what we chose from our experience. Thank you!
