The beauty of this kirtan, sung by many stalwarts, but when TMk sings, he enjoys a d indulges himself in that pleasure, going through, perfectly on every words, turns and twists, slowly, as if he has all the time in the world, when he enjoys, he makes sure we also join him !!!! He mesmerised us and it's somebody puts us to sleep with such carass and slowly massaging our inner core ! He is a legend and giant in carnatic world. !!!
Have been listening to this song for almost 6 years with just enjoyment. Only today I bothered to look into the comments. I was overjoyed to read the comments that so many people have found bliss in this kriti and rendition from TMK. Peace!!!
AMONG THE PANCHARATNA KRITIS OF SREE THYAGARAJA... Endaro mahanubhavudu stands out as a shining gem, the sublimity, the spiritual quintessence, the condescending humility, the intricacies of carnatic music as a medium, contained in this outstanding kriti is......for all times....
There is a story behind the famous kriti Endaro Mahanubhavulu. It is set in the Sri Ragam and is in Aadi Talam. It was composed by Tyagaraja. It is said that a great musician from Kerala, Shadkala Govinda Marar visited Tygaraja and performed before him. Govinda Marar had expertise in singing in the six degrees of geometric speed and earned him the title 'Shadkala'. Tyagaraja was enchanted with his rendition of the Jayadeva ashtapathi Sancharadhadhara and then was born Endaro Mahanubhavulu, the unparallelled rhythmic beauty in Carnatic music. This kriti is supposed to have been spontaneously composed by Tyagaraja.
The most important thing you need to know is that Saint Thyagaraja is saluting all the great people around. Little did he realize he was one of them himself!
Same As Mangalampalli Bala Murali Krishna Garu.. Tears are not stopping from my eyes.. Thnk you Sir for Remembering MBK garu.. Blessed to listen this .. TMK is Also A Legend..

i first came to know about sri.T.M.KRISHNA THE VOCALIST while discussing with my son [who is a vidwat in veena ] and who was getting ready to take up a fellowship in stockholm in sweden to do his PHD in cognitive compt science,......he reminded me to listen to T.M. KRISHNA the vocalist and highly recommended him, though my interest in carnatic musis only one of entertainment and for its intense BHAKTIRASABHAVA,,,,,,i love the nuances and intricacies of the music, more so because of its healing qualities both on the plane of one's personal well being both physical and mental.this music gives mental solace and can take you to heights of transcendence.......that way i got interested to listen to him ..i attended some live conserts in mysore centenary hall, university of mysore, and got absolutely impressed and inspired since when i make it mandatory to attend all conserts..he sings in a masterly fashion
Any given day, if one wants to feel peace, ko just listen to TM Krishna. Just outstanding knowledge of music combined with such a calm voice. Feel blessed
There is nothing wrong in TMK's pronunciation of Mahanubhavulu (with less amount of stress on the last two characters). It may be different from how Telugu people do it, but that does not mean that TMK has insulted or let down the language. What one must appreciate is the quality of rendering with pure devotion.
Inthujan Vaithilingam it's tough to understand your comments without paying due respects to your scarce appreciation of the arts. Your comparison of this rendition "to a drunkard" does injustice to drinking as much as it does to a wonderful interpretation of the song. And remember that "Bhava" is an evocation; it requires as much a nurture within, as it does a good ear/judgement. And evocativeness of a song is no less subjective than the distinction between royal challenge and a Laphroig.
No where near Balamurali or Jon B Higgins. Sorry. Higgins being an American pronounces with better clarity. I don't understand what is meant by saying "pronunciation the way Telugu people do"! Obviously it has to be pronounced the way Telugu pronounce.

Just listen to the way he sings brahmaaa at 4:25 and thyagaa at 12:43. Weren't they just the best? The 4 notes of it just kept me looping around there. And even that slight push of endaro at 4:34 and finally what to say about mridangam? That variation at 3:30 is the half the reason why I believe TMK'S endaro mahanubhavulu is second best after MBK'S Endaro mahanubhavulu
@Mulugu, I do accept that there are mistakes in pronunciation when tamil singers sing telugu keertanams... But, a couple of things to bear in mind before being so critical... Telugu in Saint Thyagaraja's time was much more classical and it is heard to understand even for telugu people leave alone tamilians... It is out of not being familiar with the language and not out of disrespect that these singers make mistakes. In fact, the great tamil poet Mahakavi Bharthiyar praised Telugu to be the language best suited for music and thats how majority of carnatic music lovers in TN see it. The fact that they took so much effort to learn the kritis and sing should be appreciated. In fact, I have telugu friends who believe it is because of the active interest shown in carnatic music by enthusiasts in TN, that so many telugu kritis have prospered... Apart from the maestro Bala Murali Krishna who is in a league of his own, not many from AP come close to the galaxy of stalwarts from TN / Kerala in terms of their skill and service done to carnatic music, in recent times
Balaji Nagarajan Whilst I agree to what you say, there is however a slight deviation to what you have stated. Telugu no doubt lended itself much better to classical music than Tamil. Even the present day spoken Telugu lends itself well to this form of music. Most of Badrachala Ramadas Keertanas can be easily understood well by current day patrons. The key issue is not the language itself, but the level of patronage and the amount of knowledge and interest that has passed through the recent generations. Tamil Nadu has always had a much better structure to protect and support classical music. Be it be the temples in each and every town of Tamil Nadu continuously organising sabhas or the strong patronage in the form of various institutions, classical music never had a shortage of patronage in Tamil Nadu. 50 years back, there was tremendous following for carnatic music in Andhra too. Such was the following that carnatic music broke the caste and religious barriers as well. We have had Sheik Chinna Moulana mesmarise everyone with arguably one of the most exclusive carnatic instrument, Naadaswaram. We have had a flow of significant talent, an example being U Srinivas. Unfortunately, the patronage started to reduce. And as if that was not enough, those in power started to act against the artists. Andhra's biggest tragedy was when NTR denounced Dr. M. Balamurali Krishna as an Asthana Pandit from the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams. Politicians and those in power continued to poke into an areas which was best left alone. A net effect of this was a reduction in patronage, severe shortage of upcoming talent. So upset was Dr. M. Balamurali Krishna that he vowed not to perform in Andhra again. What was Andhra's loss was Tamil Nadu's gain and the results are here to see. A healthy stream of talent, support, patronage and I see carnatic music growing enormously in Tamil Nadu. Coming back to language, yes, the amount of mistakes committed in pronunciation are significant and no one can deny that. I have heard a recital where a 'Konda', meaning a hill, pronounced as a 'Kunda' meaning a pot. Having said that, degeneration of the language happened more by the way of addition of slang, subtle modifications made on the streets with each passing generation rather than the limited damage caused in the carnatic classical music sabhas. So, to those who crib about it, I would advice walking and talking on the streets to get an idea of how much the language and actually degenerated and then come back to these sabhas. And to those who would still crib about it, well, they have let the patronage and the culture die in their territory, so they cannot complain.
Balaji Nagarajan True, its an unfortunate situation in AP. For any thing to flourish it needs a critical mass and an eco-system to sustain it. Thats the reason many fortunate artists from AP migrate to Chennai. Like U Srinivas, Priya Sisters (their father migrated for them), Unnikrishnan (Who's father migrated) etc. in fact even BMK. In the olden days arts were patronized and nurtured by the rulers. In AP for the past few centuries before independence, a vast area was under the Nizam rule who destroyed any Hindu culture. So the eco-system was destroyed. People went out of touch with the art forms. The fortunate ones still migrate...
Tyagaraja's telugu is particularly simple. You dont need sophisticated knowledge of Telugu to understand many of his kritis. His language is remarkably close to contemporary language and if people claim they dont understand, they are either lazy or so deracinated.
Krishna Sir....i think ur almost same as Tyagaraja Swamy....we don't know exact of his voice....But we feel ur voice perfect among all other legends also ....
Depthless plain rendering. Those who wish to hear an intense and poignant rendition of Endaro mahanubhavulu can search for M.D.Ramanathan's rendition of it which is unparalleled.
My grand daughter sleeps hearing this song daily. Not from any other artists. You put this and she becomes still from being hyper.
Nice nice 👍
Jon B Higgins rendering too is mesmerizing
It is nice to hear it without the 'shout'. Serene and soothing. Thanks TMK...you are the best....

T.M. Krishna is an artist par excellence. Listening to his videos at sunset is an enthralling experience. I am an incurable fan.
In a class of its own. TMK is a genius.
I didn't understand a thing. But I was really mesmerized. Music has no language barrier. I am indeed a fan of TMK. May GOD bless him and his music.

I think Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna's rendition seems the most melodious than others. But, this rendition is also great.
Agree..

tears come for no reason whenever i hear this......
Sir I think the most "melodious" rendition of Endaro Mahanubavulu is by Thyagayya.
Yyy
Great voice. Pure and divine. kusdos TM Krishna.
I can't believe the amazing calm his voice has.. and even more impressive is the clarity of the low notes. Sure MDR can go lower. but come on.. Only TM can take this song so low and still make it sound so pleasant and clear

It may be different from how Telugu people do it, but that does not mean that TMK has insulted or let down the language. What one must appreciate is the quality of rendering with pure devotion.
Very bad singing, like a drunkard, plz hear M.S. Amma S version, then you will understand what is meant by singing with devotion.
Very Painful Comments. But what to do ? You can make comments also according to your levels and standards only.
Singing Carnatic classical is devotion vs technique. Sometimes devotion is second place.
No where near Balamurali or Jon B Higgins. Sorry. Higgins being an American pronounces with better clarity.
I don't understand what is meant by saying "pronunciation the way Telugu people do"! Obviously it has to be pronounced the way Telugu pronounce.

Depthless plain rendering. Those who wish to hear an intense and poignant rendition of Endaro mahanubhavulu can search for M.D.Ramanathan's rendition of it which is unparalleled.
Melodious.
