    yep, I'm back, here's the link to Donec in case you want to try it (it's 100% free) apps.apple.com/us/app/donec-the-eagers-countdown/id6449624794
    this video has been in the works for an unusually long time, I wanted it to coincide with the "official" launch of Donec AS WELL as my rebrand, which didn't make things easier (you truly don't wanna know how many iterations it took), but it's finally done
    spoiler: the next project I'm working on will be much weirder

    This customization thing isn’t a “feature” that companies are offering, they’re just a cover up for the fact that there’s no more innovation happening in certain products. So to not be left behind, they need something to show off that won’t actually add any technical advantage, but can have some appeal, to keep the consumers engaged without having anything pushing the technology forward.
    But when something new comes along, no one will care about customization because they’ll need to be moving fast to beat the competition with more actual features.

      @NinjaNuggets21 Don't forget verified boot with custom root of trust like on Pixel phones that Graphene OS / Calyx OS rely on. It's not enough just to be able to unlock bootloaders, we need to be able relock the bootloader with custom ROMs.
      This won't affect any company's bottom line because most everyday are not going to attempt it, meanwhile it opens up the enterprise, industrial and defence markets for mobile devices. It also means far less maintenance cost for phone companies too. Google already provides ready to use reference implementations yet phone companies go out of their way to hamstring their devices.
      This is already the standard in the PC & server space, but we lost a huge battle with ARM & mobile space.

    Apple used to set itself apart by delivering what users needed, while customization is Android's thing.
    Now Apple lacks innovation and is moving away from Steve Jobs' idea of knowing what people want. He wouldn’t be proud of the new tinted theme feature because it seems useless, and most of the colors are ugly.

      people have been saying for a long time yet IOS is actually gaining market share (not sales marketshare)
      it rose from 15% to 20% in 10 years mostly due to strong growth from asian markets (china/SEA/east asia)
      don't do innovation for sake of doing it , it must at the end of the day actually benefit the user. while apple fumbles here and there they have consistently maintained the level of polish, stability and connivence that is unparalleled to any android phone except google but who am i kidding no one uses a chromebook

      @@veryCreativeName0001-zv1ir Not entirely true. Sorry to pop your bubble but everything you said about apple used to be true but ever since this whole Ai thing 🙄
      Apple has been getting lazy, the new iphone 16's have hardware camera issues. I know not everyone is going to do night time photo's but a guy who takes pictures of the stars found a hardware issue where you could see blue lines. This wasn't the sky but digital noise. In his research many others had the same issue, it's a hit and miss as some never had it while others did but it is somewhat wide spread. If I ever buy a iphone it's gonna be there rumored cheap 500$ as I don't need any pro features. I use my phone for communication and important apps like my banking app. I'll get more use out of apples pc way more than there phones. Im just a pc guy you could say. Ill link the video so you can watch it for yourself if you like. Im not saying your 100% wrong bc apple does have a level of standards but ever since this ai shit more cracks are begining to show up. Issues with file transferring from your old iphone (Software bug) To the camera issue (Hardware) issue. My theory is apple has moved around alot of there engineers into this AI gunk which is leaving the few poor souls to clean up the mess without qa through inspection of there producing IE qauity control. Sorry for my rant thanks for coming to my ted talk :)
      Video on camera issues: ruclips.net/video/hW7Lb4ZNFrU/видео.html
      Edit: Let me change my theory up a bit. I don't think there moving engineers around but rather there QA teams that find bugs or issues with there products or services. I think this is going to be a huge issue in the furture as AI is very unpredictable one it's telling a user exactly the answer they wannted then the next moment it's saying to put toxic free glue on pizza (Jab at googles AI) Honestly they need to not worry about AI the tools they have should be suffient as the public doesn't really care about AI too much. Make it slightly useful in helping consumors like how to fix X issue on iphone or how to enable X feature but nothing beyound that. If people want AI they will find it like me I personally use claudes models as there reailable. Apple needs to put there QA teams back in order after they get this Ai shit shipped sadly.
      TDLR: Apple moved QA teams to AI bc AI make money 🤑

    You must be young. Personalization is not new. It used to be the standard. Just look at how much you could customize the look of Windows 98.
    We've moved away from personalization in early 2000's and now the trend is coming back, and even Apple is jumping aboard this time.

    • @AndreaCopellino
      @AndreaCopellino  3 месяца назад +5

      I had a section towards the end of the video where I mentioned this, I ended up removing it for two reasons
      1) It would have taken too much time to introduce in a manner that didn’t feel too abrupt (and the video was already getting very long already)
      2) I still feel like what we are seeing right now (when it comes to customization) is slightly different from that, it’s less of an option and more of a thing they are actively encouraging users to do

    • @asandax6
      @asandax6 3 месяца назад +2

      @@AndreaCopellino You were encouraged to do customization back in the day too so much so there were apps and plugin SDKs to customize almost the whole System. Linux is an example of how much personalization was prioritized in the past as it has kept being consistent.

      Its still valid. As a designer, I know customizability has been around for a while, and is making a comeback as a 'selling point'. I think this is because companies can now offer products tailored to customers based on their 'style'.
      Also, a customer that has created their own style will easily recognize and 'allow' ai or augmented experiences that look like the things they already have a connection with.
      So yes, customization has been around, but it is an important and indeed less visible topic in the ai and ar space.

    • @spencerlay3318
      @spencerlay3318 2 месяца назад

      @@AndreaCopellinoI can respect the difficulty of introducing this topic, but I would have loved to have seen it because I do think it’s an important part of the topic. This is a longer reply, but I only mean to offer my perspective as another longtime tech enthusiast.
      The Early iOS jailbreak scene SPOILED me rotten on personalization, and it wasn’t limited to aesthetics and icon changes. Many developers designed workflow and system tweaks. BiteSMS, LockInfo, and SBSettings are examples of tweaks that prototyped functionality that did not yet exist. Were they super polished? No, but they explored untapped potential. To be fair, they did it by exploiting privilege escalation, a thing that Apple would undeniably be afraid of leaving open for the average Joe because of the amount of liability they inherit from it.
      Apple (rightfully) has patched holes in iOS, and as a Cybersecurity academic I can respect that, but the fact that “Tinted Icons” and free-floating icons were given the kind of pomp-and-circumstance, red-carpet treatment when Apple announced them feels incredibly disingenuous. Personalization was taken from us, but in doing this, they adamantly refused to offer meaningful alternatives. Any remaining solutions were convoluted and tacky as all get-out.
      People like me who remember how accessible and easy to use those Customization options were back then feel miffed that we’re being told that it’s new and special. It’s almost like Mom and Dad took away the Xbox Series S that our friend gave us for our birthday and, after long enough that they hoped we’d forget how nice and how fun the Xbox was, giving us a Nintendo GameCube and saying “We know how much your friends love to play video games, so we wanted to get you something special.” It’s not that they don’t mean well, it’s just that it feels like a slap in the face.

    • @itsbazyli
      @itsbazyli 2 месяца назад

      @@theebatmoin8168 Of course it's valid. I was merely making an observation - the fact is companies actively disabled and stopped investing in the ability to customize, and now it's having a comeback. I believe this is in part because they struggle to innovate in other ways, or providing actual value to the customers. There's not much different between the recent iPhone or Android versions, so adding in customization is the easiest way to differentiate.

    I agree with all the points because if you look at it from a futuristic perspective, everything should be able to be customized for a specific user, and I don't understand why Apple has ignored at least lock screen customization until now, it seems like the most basic thing that could have been done 8 years ago, and in general, iOS has always had a bunch of some features that were talked about at presentations, but who used them in the end? Taking a screenshot by double-tapping the back of the phone, who were these people?

  • @superNova5837

    I’d say in terms of iOS the push for customization started with 14
    3rd party widget apps became a thing and everyone got the same idea when they discovered shortcuts and its ability to use an image as its icon
    Is it as good as android? No
    But given you care enough to do it and have enough time you can

    Love this. Thank you for making this. I do think the customization can make the user experience better or even worse (because of the users taste). They now have the power to ruin their experience lol. As a UX designer with high design and human behaviour skills, how could we help companies to build experiences that are customizable yet dont ruin the core customer experience while performing tasks.

  • @Shadoufang
    @Shadoufang 2 месяца назад

    Seems to me that "adaptation" is only happening only because of the sudden rapid development or trendiness of AI. So that's a given.
    The first 2 things mentioned, "customization" and "specialization" has been with us for a looong time (I'm talking about Android :'p) . So, the "trend" of "personalization" is only happening because of AI.
    So this trend really is only about "adaptation".
