I backed the same version. I like the cardboard feeling more and felt the acrylic tiles were unnecessary, not to mention the minis for all the tiles. I'm pretty happy of my choice.
Not having a ton of disposable income definitely helps with moderation, but I'm not someone who gets that excited about bling in general. I'm a simple man. Give me some wooden cubes and a great game design and I'm happy. That said, the upgrades here are nice. Thanks for watching!
Awesome! I'm glad you enjoy it as well. I can't wait to dig into the various expansions. As much as I've played Burgundy, I've not explored the expansions very much. And the new Vineyards expansion looks interesting. Have you tried that with solo? Thanks so much for watching!
@@TotallyTabled Didn't try the vineyards yet, but last night I tried the shields expansion, and boy, the automa loves these shields. It makes the solo game more difficult.
FYI, the new solo mode is compatible with everything except : team mode, original solo mode, and Inns. Shaggy, happy to see you're enjoying the solo mode. Thank you for the kind words.
Awesome. Can’t wait to get mine. Any day now. Really really stoked that the solo also sings. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Thank you for your always great playthrough and review. 👌🏼
Let us know what you think once you get it. Hope it is soon. I think you will really enjoy the solo. I was worried, but they did a great job. Maybe Trajan will be next? Thanks for watching, Michael!
I will only add (for owners of older versions of CoB) that an officially approved fan solo version of Chateauma's has appeared on BGG for download and printing. The colors match the older version of the Big Box. I highly recommend it - it's only 9 cards and one double-sided board ;-)
Excellent! I had played CoB only once a couple of years ago at a local game fair and thought it was fantastic. Starts off relatively easy and then gets harder as places are filled. When this came to crowd funding I couldn't pass it up. Glad to hear the solo play is great, I was a bit worried about that.
I really didn't like the old solo mode, as it changed many of the multiplayer mechanics: for me, it didn't feel like I was playing the same game. Since then I've been mostly playing multiplayer on Board game arena as I have no one in my circle who is willing to play board games, and I've loved every game there. So I bought this extravagant version PURELY for the solo mode, and I am so happy to see that it replicates the actual multiplayer experience so well. Finally I can play physical Castles of Burgundy! BTW, the old solo mode is in the box too, I just unboxed mine.
Nice! Yeah, the BGA version works nicely. I've also enjoyed the app, but having true solo for the table is really great. I do wish the box was smaller, but that just isn't going to happen anymore I fear. I'll make room for these proven classic games over the other crowdfunded minis heavy behemoths. Thanks for checking out the video!
This was the game that got me and my husband into Euros. We still play our original copy. I also like soloing but the original was hot garbage. And I'm not even particular about solos; AI or BYOS is fine with me as long as the game isn't completely changed. I have no idea what that mishegoss was in the first released solo. I'm so glad you showed us this new version and its solo! So, now when my husband's in Final Girl mode, I can play CoB!! You're awesome, Shaggy!!!
I was under the impression it was coming to retail, but I could be wrong. I do imagine they will do another run of this, because I'm sure it is going to be popular. They would be crazy not to keep this in print. I also hope they do a slightly stripped down version and bring the cost down. A lot of people would jump on that, I think. Thanks for watching!
@TotallyTabled Thanks to your review and gameplay I bought this version from retail. Solo mode is perfect. Game is overall perfect. Thanks for review and solo play! Really like the game in this version.
Hey Jason, thanks for checking out the review. I got those trays on the Board Game Geek store. I have a video about my Top 10 Accessories and I talk all about them there and I include links in the description. Here is the video: ruclips.net/video/tEvrhrVXkEA/видео.html. Hope that helps!
Yes, in fact it just arrived yesterday and I broke the shrink today. Much smaller and fewer components than I expected. Halls of Hegra is definitely one of my most anticipated games this year. I plan to table it this weekend. Thanks for watching!
this solo mode looks so good compared to the "standard" solo mode in the core set... do you know if there is anywhere to download and print the cards and board for the new solo mode? I would think you would be able to add that to your base game with just the new cards and board...
This solo mode would be very easy to add to old copies of the game. Even the board could be reduced to a card that just listed the number of tiles of each color until they get the bonus token. And we are talking about 9 solo cards for the base game. I don't know of any way to get them, but I hope they become available. I'd keep an eye on BGG. A lot of these older games are going to start getting official solo modes and the community really needs to push companies to try to make them widely available. Thanks for checking out the video!
@@TotallyTabled thanks man... great info... I want to get this tried for my old game... someone on BGG should make the files I am sure it will happen... thanks for looking out for us and doing this solo video and first impressions videos... great stuff
I would bet on a reprint, Victor. This should be the definitive version of Burgundy and it should be available for the community. I really hope. Thanks for watching!
I love this solo mode... the only thing I don't like much, is the fact that at the end the Chateuma scores lots of points (monasteries, goods...) and the player way less. So a tight, point-to-point game is really nice, but always leads to a defeat. Even a 20 points lead often isn't enough. I would like a way to assign to the automa more points during the game and less at the end, but it's not easy
I never thought of that, but that is a fair criticism. It is always more satisfying to have even end game scoring so the race feels tight all the way through. Quite a few solo games suffer from this. Thanks so much for checking out the video!
I would easily upgrade my old Burgundy copy with this one if only they had an option without the castle miniatures. I don’t want the extra cost and box height.
They do, but the box for the one without the castle minis is the exact same size, it just has a different tray for the level with the minis. You do save on cost though. That’s the one I got, and I don’t miss the castles or player busts at all.
I like that you don’t always go for the all blinged out versions. Very sensible, and nice to see that one can resist the FOMO.

It's a different publisher, so don't expect anything official. Unofficial, who knows? ;)
Do you know anything about the retail version? Will it be the same as your basic pledge? Or will it be downgraded?
Really hope they do a reprint. I opted out as a solo player because it seemed a steep price for just solo.
