Fortunately since I am an immigrant into another country and no longer UK resident, with only occasional contact using WhatsApp, we can just avoid these sensitive issues. Well said Dave. Re Dodgy Dave and his comments on housing, there has been a shortage of council houses long before so many desperate immigrants came here. It was caused, firstly by the 'points' system which meant that you had to show a desperate need for a council house rather than prioritising council house building over private and unaffordable housing. Then Thatcher enacted the " right to buy" your council ( socially owned ) house at a massive discount for tenants ( but strangely not for privately owned rented accomodation) which took away the majority of council houses. I argued with my parents when they bought the council house we lived in and a few years later they sold the house and moved into a council bungalow. I said to them " its a good job the council didn't sell the bungalows off!" New Labour also are responsible for the loss of council houses as they continued the tory policy and also sold houses off en masse to private companies labelled "arms length" or " not for profit" but there was no democratic process involved in these outfits. Dave, as you know, we voted Brexit but it was for the same reasons as the late Tony Benn and Bob Crow, Arthur Scargill, Dennis Skinner and many others on the left. I hope we don't get tainted with these far right thugs which we hate. Solidarity throughout the working class whatever colour they are or where from against the ruling class who have caused the deliberate destruction of our economic, industrial base for at least 45 years which leads people who lack education of our working class history, struggles, etc, to lash out but unfortunately after their views are musdirected by fascist, right wing manipulators.

American here. If there is one thing the UK can do to spur private home building, it would be to get rid of the variable rate mortgage. Over here, when you buy a house, the mortgage is at a fixed rate. In addition, if you bought a house when interest rates are high, you can wait until the interest rates fall and get a refinance loan at the lower rate. The idea of higher interest rates driving up your mortgage payments makes home buying perilous.

I honesty believe that the majority are not racist, but they see the UK as a very unfair society - and it is unfair, and wealth inequality is among the worst in the western world. Did Starmer attempt to calm things down, by setting up an anti knife crime task force, or rescinding the new austerity being used to impovorish state pensioners? The removal of the pensioners fuel allowance and the proposal to make state pension means tested has indeed been seen as unjust, and we know it actually will result in many needless deaths. The attacks on the migrant hotels are appalling, but there is actually a hotel in every town & village representing this unfairness of govt policy - where those on the outside are left hungry & cold, where our own homeless are left to freeze on the streets, women escaping domestic violence can end up in a tent. It's the injustice of everything of the last 40 years. Our people are not racist, generally. The lack of rioting up to now shows the tolerance of the UK population. I lived in one of the UK areas affected by race riots in 1959, and that was awful. That was racism.

Well said Dave. Re Dodgy Dave and his comments on housing, there has been a shortage of council houses long before so many desperate immigrants came here. It was caused, firstly by the 'points' system which meant that you had to show a desperate need for a council house rather than prioritising council house building over private and unaffordable housing. Then Thatcher enacted the " right to buy" your council ( socially owned ) house at a massive discount for tenants ( but strangely not for privately owned rented accomodation) which took away the majority of council houses. I argued with my parents when they bought the council house we lived in and a few years later they sold the house and moved into a council bungalow. I said to them " its a good job the council didn't sell the bungalows off!" New Labour also are responsible for the loss of council houses as they continued the tory policy and also sold houses off en masse to private companies labelled "arms length" or " not for profit" but there was no democratic process involved in these outfits.
Dave, as you know, we voted Brexit but it was for the same reasons as the late Tony Benn and Bob Crow, Arthur Scargill, Dennis Skinner and many others on the left. I hope we don't get tainted with these far right thugs which we hate. Solidarity throughout the working class whatever colour they are or where from against the ruling class who have caused the deliberate destruction of our economic, industrial base for at least 45 years which leads people who lack education of our working class history, struggles, etc, to lash out but unfortunately after their views are musdirected by fascist, right wing manipulators.

American here. If there is one thing the UK can do to spur private home building, it would be to get rid of the variable rate mortgage. Over here, when you buy a house, the mortgage is at a fixed rate. In addition, if you bought a house when interest rates are high, you can wait until the interest rates fall and get a refinance loan at the lower rate. The idea of higher interest rates driving up your mortgage payments makes home buying perilous.

Morning Dave, yours is a headline list of what has been visited upon the working class. It is remarkable there wasn't rioting before, but there is now. That's why - the straw that broke the camels back. The 5 Reform MPs represent constituencies who fear immigration. There's a large difference to those where immigration and lack of a working economy are everyday issues.
You & I can understand politically the class war that has been waged against the working class for 4 decades. Let's not do the bosses jobs for them by belittling those with grievances as all being racists, any more than calling Starmers political opponants in the Labour party as all anti semites. The people who are demonstrating are "anti govt" in the political wilderness. I honesty believe that the majority are not racist, but they see the UK as a very unfair society - and it is unfair, and wealth inequality is among the worst in the western world. Did Starmer attempt to calm things down, by setting up an anti knife crime task force, or rescinding the new austerity being used to impovorish state pensioners? The removal of the pensioners fuel allowance and the proposal to make state pension means tested has indeed been seen as unjust, and we know it actually will result in many needless deaths. The attacks on the migrant hotels are appalling, but there is actually a hotel in every town & village representing this unfairness of govt policy - where those on the outside are left hungry & cold, where our own homeless are left to freeze on the streets, women escaping domestic violence can end up in a tent. It's the injustice of everything of the last 40 years. Our people are not racist, generally. The lack of rioting up to now shows the tolerance of the UK population. I lived in one of the UK areas affected by race riots in 1959, and that was awful. That was racism.
