    Sorry, did I hear that right? "Three years in-game of dialogue before repeats start happening with random villagers?" Sounds like my kind of game.

      Mmm I feel like Hashimoto has brought that aspect of Rune Factory into Bokujo lately, at least with Trio of Towns. Granted it's not as deep but I feel like it goes pretty far.

      LeadYoke only downside you'll find in 4 that I still love is that damn near all of the social events (including marriage related stuff) are random and makes it feel as live and at the same time so much stuff to do if you don't focus souley in them.

    The "Rune Factory" series is easily one of the most underrated of many video game series out there and it is a hidden gem that many people have gotten hooked on once they get started on their first "Rune Factory" title! It is a farming simulator, dungeon crawler, and dating sim all in one with town events such as festivals all the way to status building thrown in so you never run out of things to do in your gameplay. I'm guilty of telling myself late at night, "Just one more in-game day and then I'll turn off my game!" It is that good of a video game series! The music is wonderful, the events are often relatable to many of our own personal conflicts, and the characters are lovable or at least most of them are. Not to mention the Anime character art style makes the "Rune Factory" series an attractive one. They have 3 games on Nintendo DS, 2 on the Wii (1 of them is also for Sony PS3), and 1 of those is for Nintendo 3DS so there's technically 6 "Rune Factory" games in the series with many loyal fans begging for yet another "Rune Factory" game despite the fall of Neverland gaming company who was responsible for the "Rune Factory" video games. Keeping my fingers crossed that Marvelous Entertainment or X-Seed picks up and continues the project!

    I played and love Rune Factory 4. The farming felt actually rewarding and the characters were charming. I dropped it at some point at the ending when I found a game breaking glitch but I picked it back up after finding out a way to circumvent it. It was certainly more enjoyable than Harvest Moon or Animal Crossing to my taste.

    Going from 4 to 1 is difficult though. I tried to replay Rune Factory 1 recently, and I totally forgot the tool shortcut menu doesn't pause the game. I ran into battle, needed a potion and was like "Oh god why is he still attacking me???"

    I saw Rune Factory 4 browsing through E Shop late at night and bought a physical copy the next day. I fell in love with the series. I loved the story and the characters, and I loved the references to earlier games that the second arc had. I bought and completed Rune Factory 3 (which had one of my favorite final bosses, especially with how you win in the end), and I still don't know what the hell I'm supposed to do to advance the plot in Rune Factory Frontier (I'm in like, my fifth year or something and I'm still on discovering Whale Island 😂). I love this franchise and I desperately want the next entry to be announced one day. I even got my best friend into Rune Factory 4 a few years ago. I think 3 and 4 have some of if not my favorite final boss fights of all time. I love Rune Factory for the lovable characters and investing stories.

    I'm a little sad you didn't mention the marriage factor.... I've completely finished Rune Factory 4 and I am now working on the other ones~
    AND THIS AMAZING COMMENT SECTION MADE ME SO HAPPY!!! I actually think that everyone should at least try this game out... it's got so many different factors to it. So wide and vast full of game play and data. And now I'm rambling...

    I distinctly remember being about 11-12 years old and I got some Christmas money (which I never got before) so we went to a large toy store. I was trying to pick the perfect thing to buy, and I really couldn't find anything. While my younger sister was buying her toy, there was a display by the cashier which was Rune Factory (the first of the DS line). I grew up with Harvest Moon, so when I saw 'A Fantasy Harvest Moon' under the title, I was game. One of the best purchase decisions I ever made!

      Grimoire Hunter Yea 3 was supppper good but you can beat it way to fast if you know what you're doing. The inly gripe I (and everyone else for that matter) have with 4 is marriage random events. I had cheesed the ever loving shit out of the sharance branch dungeon before it triggered

    • @grimoirehunter9688
      @grimoirehunter9688 6 лет назад

      usa1ph Yes I really disliked the event system in 4, 3's felt a lot more personal and not depending on luck. 3 was definitely easy to beat, could beat it in 1 day, but it also meant you could try out every marriage option

    I own and have played every Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons and Rune Factory game. Harvest Moon was my favorite series of games until Rune Factory came out. Rune Factory 4 is my all time favorite game ever. It is the only game I can play from beginning to end, over and over, and not get tired of it. You can imagine my utter heartbreak when I found out that there weren't going to be any more Rune Factory games...if I were a millionaire, I would find the team responsible in making this game and pay them to continue their work.

    I picked up Rune Factory 4 on a whim after seeing it for sale in a second-hand game store, since I knew of the series due to being a long-time player of Story of Seasons/Harvest Moon.
    It's safe to say that I fell in love with it. The faster pacing and more RPG-like elements of RF4 are seriously helping me get back into a style of game that that's starting to wear on me. I tend to fall into a routine when playing a main-line Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons game, but RF4 has really captured that sense of 'oh yeah, you can totally spend an entire week dedicated to grinding various skills' for me.
    Speaking of which, does anybody know if you start losing friendship with people after not talking to them for a certain amount of time in RF4? I remember that being really tedious in ANB.

      Have a great time!! Rune Factory is absolutely my favorite game series, and I'm so thrilled to see interest bringing new fans into the community tangential to the direct. The developers are extremely passionate about this series and the quality of their content that has massively escalated over six games certainly reflects that--RF4 was like their swan song before the main development team was met with trying times, but they still found a way to protect the title. To see that passion alight again to revive the series after over 6 years shows how much they care for their work and appreciate their patient and devoted fanbase, all for good reasons. Regardless of which entry you start with, I sincerely hope you enjoy Rune Factory!

    The first time I ever got a rune factory game it was Rune Factory 2. My parents got it for me as a joke xmas present because when I was a kid I used to say I wanted to be a farmer. And holy shit did that change my gaming life. Rune Factory is my favorite game series! Rune Factory 2 was sooooo good that I wound up buying all the other Rune Factory game (and Looked forward to everyone that came out after 2).
    I actually recommend playing them in chronological order. Not for storyline reasons but for the simple fact that (As far as the handheld games are concerned) The game ages well. Starting from 4 is nice too since I feel that the slow farming in 1 and 2 (plus the graphics) CAN BE somewhat off-putting. But once you interact with the town all of that vanishes. Frankly I didn't know Harvest Moon was a game before discovering Rune Factory. But goly it makes me think Rune Factory should have been the beginning (Though the game was created to be it's own standalone)

    Hmm if I am to recommend where to start:
    Start at RF1 if you want the full experience of the whole franchise.
    Start at RF2 if you can't find the software to play RF1.
    Start at RF3 for any other reason other than the ones mentioned here (RF3 is the easiest, the fastest to finish, and has, imo, the best set of characters. But it's also the most hack-n-slash.)
    Start at RF4 if you only have 3DS, or if you never play the old Harvest Moon with its old design before, or if you want to enjoy the farming aspect to the fullest.
    Don't start with wii. They are both tedious.

      Both wii games made me a RF Fan, Violet and Rosetta are best grills of each game, their presentation is GORGEUS (i actually was kinda disapointed with RF4 aesthetic as i know the 3DS is capable of so much more, im not asking for Kid Icarus or Smash bros level of detail but, at least fully 3D environments would have helped.

      Abraham Benedict
      Wii's the best game in the series, what are you talking about? Only the PS3 game is kinda meh (mechanic-wise and art design) and even then there's still some fun to be had.

    • @reveriesend4668
      @reveriesend4668 6 лет назад +1

      ,,, I didn't say bad. I said "tedious". It means monotonous, tiresome. The cast are still great, the plot is still great, and in the end it's still a Rune Factory game, as what you expect out of it, is what you can get from it.
      But if you have played since the very first Rune Factory, you can easily tell how tiresome can it get. Even the big design flaw in RF1 is nothing compared to, say: taking care of runeys from RF:Frontier.
      Well, ofc we are experienced players, so going around it is easy,
      but my comment was made for people who want to get into the franchise. You won't really tell noobs who are barely attached into the series to go take care of runeys, no?
      Also the PS3 version of Rune Factory Tides of Destiny has mostly the same mechanic as its Wii version apart from the extra support for Playstation Move motion controller.
      Although that doesn't really do much for the game itself.
      ps.: Actually, one of the main reason for Neverland's bankruptcy was bcs RF:Oceans didn't meet expected profit on time.

    I grew up on pokemon and mmorpg games like runescape or flyff or wow. I tried harvest moon on psp but didn't really care for it but that was maybe 10 years ago. I now can't stop playing these farming games, rune factory is close to my ideal game now same with stardew valley, but I also love story of seasons. I can't get enough of them and want more. Let's hope they keep progressing and making the games better

    Idk about the first two entries on the DS, but I have heard great things about RF 3, even to the point of some people preferring 3 to 4. I rly need to start playing 3 and 4 soon, but there’s so many good things to play lately. I cannot wait for RF to come to the Switch!

    I'm lucky enough to have all the RF games. Personally think RF4 is a good game for first timers as it gives detail on how to farm, interact with villagers, and venture into the dungeons. There's an area in the RF4 village which mentions the other RF games as an Easter Egg as well. All games are awesome in their own right, RF2 (2nd generation) and RF4 are the only games in the series where you can pick your gender. In RF: Oceans (Wii/PS3), you can pick your gender AFTER completing the Story. Sorry, I've said too much. I just love these games and hope Marvelous picks it up to make an 5th one.

    • @nathaliea9877
      @nathaliea9877 6 лет назад

      In RF2 during 1st generation, after you marry the girl of your choice, your wife will ask you a question when she becomes pregnant (boy, girl, random). There are suitors for either gender during the 2nd generation, its pretend wedding so you can marry any and/or everyone. Anyone could correct me if I'm wrong, as it has been a while since I've played it. =)

    • @nathaliea9877
      @nathaliea9877 6 лет назад

      if I'd have to pick....I think I'd go for RF2. It starts off as a regular Harvest Moon so you can learn how to farm, have people fall in love with you, and complete quests. Its relaxing until you decide you want to continue with the story in 2nd generation.

    Rune factory 4 is good but my only problem with it is the random events other than that the game is good

    • @rodrigoisrael9891
      @rodrigoisrael9891 6 лет назад +1

      Yeah, i know the game is realistic that way, but sometimes there can be days with nothing happening (specially noticeable when you finish second arc) and make the game sometimes feel tiring, something that never happened with RF Frontier or ToD.
      Aside from that, my only other problem is that it doesnt have a fully 3D environment, and looks like the RF on the original DS. Im not asking for gorgeus graphics but at least fully 3D would be nice since i am damn sure the 3DS could have handled that.

    • @Sylvastier
      @Sylvastier 6 лет назад

      that's only truly a problem if you focus on getting events. I'll admit though, trying to marry Xiao Pai Is just the worst thing to be random!

    • @rodrigoisrael9891
      @rodrigoisrael9891 6 лет назад +2

      Yeah i know, i would be okay if minor events were random (pajama party, and mundane stuff like that) and major events (such as bachelors or bachelorettes marriage events, or even story events) would need trigger, and i mean, an obvious trigger, because i just asked venti how she felt because i tried to be nice, and bam, second arc started. i didnt have enough rest between arcs, but finished the second because the story was actually pretty good. And Dolce made me happy with her pokemon reference.
      I heard somewhere a long time ago, that the intention of the story was not to be the main focus, but another fun activity, that the player had the choice to do or not. I ve only seen frontier apply this, as you have to actively try to advance the story, but tides of destiny and 4 actually force you to play the story.
      I dont hate the story, but i want to have an obvious choice to start or not certain important events.

    I'm going to start by saying my story and how this video help me. I have never been really big on simulator style games, Sims, Animal Crossing and simcity or literally almost any type of game on mobile.
    Those types of games always bored me, my sister was way more into stuff like that oh, because I was the type of kid or gamer who would play a game for a couple like 2 to 3 hours a day, I was more on my video games cuz of the state I live in and weather can never be fun here. I always like to play games that you generally take me around 8 to 12 hours a day. And typically those took the games they were like put the stuff here in here than way about fucking three days to have the things be done, I have patience sure but I don't have patience for something to be done in the video game or spend money on it to get faster.
    I was also typically more into RPGs and Shooters and fighting games. Something I can be in thrall with when it comes to Shooters gameplay, RPG stories or the technically of a fighting game.
    Eventually I want to try these simulation type games one more time, but I wanted to find one that I would try to stick with for a long time, that's where I found this video and I was interested to try a Rune Factory game. After watching some of the gameplay and some of the core things, I'm kind of like oh this is kind of like if a simulation game met some of my more favorite RPG like Persona or something like that.
    Then I had a birthday that passed not too long ago I had a nice $100 gift card to spend on the eShop and I saw that Rune Factory 4 special was there for fifty bucks and I looked at my gift card and back at my TV and said screw.
    This was a purchase I did not regret, and thank you for showing me the light.

      I own Tides of Destiny, and personally in my opinion, it's not worth getting a wii for anyway. The game has almost an hour long tutorial, and the farming system is unique, but pretty terrible. I also never really got invested in the story either. Can't speak much for Frontier, though. But at least Frontier has 2d talking sprites unlike Tide's weird 3d ones.

    Rune Factory Frontier is a sequel to the original and Rune Factory 4, though not containing spoilers, gives nods to the previous entries in that when you look through the binoculars, you "see" landmarks from the previous games. Also, I'd start with the original Rune Factory because after the first two entries, they seemed to get better with the game play and it would be more difficult to play the first two after the fact.

  • @Excendre
    @Excendre 6 лет назад +1

    Personally, I would say people should start with Rune Factory 1 so they don't get spoiled on all the improvements RF3 and 4 made, because it makes RF1 and 2 incredibly hard to play after that. But I might be a tad bias since I started with RF1 lol

    To be super honest, I can't play any harvest moon/story of seasons because Rune Factory ruined it for me. The fast paced farming mechanics is so good and smooth that I honestly cannot touch the other two without cringing at the painfully slow actions. Like, picking up something takes forever, whereas you can stack 9 items quickly before putting them in your inventory. If the new story of seasons could input that in their game, it would definitely be loads better.
