Ed!! How are you brother! Only just saw this message. The family are well and I'm doing better these days. I have very fond memories of the times hanging with you in Florida!
They're still expensive! Maybe one day I'll have a go on one but I've already got 4 windsynths in my collection, 2 AKAIs and two Yamahas. I'd have to hear some outstanding patches bilt into the AE30 to want to go out and buy it. Patchman Music will probably do something pretty cool though.... so I never know.
@@garyhonor I have a bunch of those horns as well -- but not an AE-30 as yet... aside from the price the latest ones are still not available here in Canada until sometime near the end of this month.
exceptional work. can up share some progress photos? what did you do in the neck. Just seal it up and allow air to travel the length of it to the tube in the body or did you extend the body air tube to the mouthpiece. It's really very cool and something Yamaha should have done from the beginning. Of all the wind synths the wx5 is the ugliest. They should have kept going with the style of the wx7 or 11
Unfortunately I never took photos thru the process and yes I just sealed up the neck and let the pressure sensor work as it did before. Conveniently an alto neck fits over the rubber receiver on the WX5 pretty well without much modification. I obviously loose lip bend but I never used it really. I always felt the pitch wheel was more useful. And yes I agree the wx7 and wx11 both looked cooler than the wx5. I really think they made a misstep with the new 150 though. It really didn't need that bell on it.
Probably could, but I actually think the AKAI EWIs already look pretty cool. I have a 4000S which I love. I still find it harder to play than the yamaha but it's really a very cool instrument.
The trumpet and harmonica do. The organ and synths don't, but that's the beauty :) My eyes see a sax, my ears saying "keyboard" and my brain goes "whoohoo"
Nah, no sponsorship.. just trying ideas and seeing what is possible. The WX5, while pretty decent functionally was not terribly great to look at. Never had the chance to play an aerophone yet but they look pretty cool and made improvements that I think are good. From an outside observer I'd think the areophone keys sounds a bit too clicky. They could have avoided that, I'm not sure why they didn't.
Hey Gary... Ed Maina here. It’s been a while since I saw you last. You visited me in South Florida. Hoping you and your family are blessed.

Wonderfully creative Gary. Great playing. Can't wait to see what you can do to an AE-30.

It certainly has more character now :)
Looks so good, I want it too.
Suppose I buy an alto sax bell, how did you attach it to the WX5? just glue...?
Amazing man !
Can you do the same with an EWI from Akai?
Probably could, but I actually think the AKAI EWIs already look pretty cool. I have a 4000S which I love. I still find it harder to play than the yamaha but it's really a very cool instrument.
Oi gente nao falo ingles

@@jlataystudio I used an old armstrong alto that was at my local sax repairer's scraps bin.
ANd no, I don't have the inclination to make more of these.
hope u were not sponsored, cuz as i see you play it i'd rather buy a roland aerophone than this thrash, sorry but music world is though
you're entitled to your opinion, and I'm entitled to mock your weird typos and grammar. I doubt he would modify the thing if he were sponsored...
