    The CZUR ET16 Plus is a very cool looking book scanner - but it can scan more than just books, and has some other tricks too. And did I mention it has laser beams?
    I had a lot of fun making this. Thanks to Erin, Tom and Shannon for your help.

    Thanks to everyone who joined the Premiere - really useful to try out that functionality. Unfortunately my browser refreshed and kicked me out of the chat! 🤦🏻‍ What other uses can you think of for this cool scanner?

    I imagine this would do a good job scanning the cover art on CD booklets so you could add them as images to the audio files in your music collection. And probably much faster than what it takes when using an older flatbed scanner. I'm not sure that's worth over $430 by itself, but it'd be another nice use for it for those who also have other uses.

      Even better: For those who are buying vinyl albums instead of CD's, this might be *great* for creating cover art from the album jackets (assuming it can scan a flat object that's 12" x 12").
      I have a two or three vinyl albums that I've imported into my music collection, and even with a legal-paper-sized flatbed scanner it's a real chore to reproduce good cover art. I had to scan the album cover in three strips, and then painstakingly stitch those images together to get a really nice-looking image for cover art.

    I would copy an entire book into a digital version, because of my brain injury do to a stroke, I can only read e-books. I don't know why, but I think it has something to do with my cognitive training (never had it) so I don't have a lot memory capacity.. Reading e-books is so much easier for me. This device would be perfect to turn al my old books in e-books. It might be to pricy I think. But I'm impressed. And scanning old photos, because I just inherited tons of old pfot albums and I don't know where to put them all.

    A nice product. It would be useful for universities and schools. We had pages and pages of wonky text, some unreadable. It would be a huge improvement. Mind you that was about nine years ago. This premiere was a great experience, which I really enjoyed. More please 🙏 😊

      I will try and do more Premieres - probably on videos which I know will be popular. Bit of an experiment today to see how it works. 👍🏻

    I can see it used in product catalog shots of small items like jewelry or cellphone accessories. It is a hassle to take pictures of those items in large quantities but his seems fine assuming the output resolution is at least 300 dpi to output to printing

    • @ConstantGeekery
      @ConstantGeekery  2 года назад

      Good idea. It outputs 16MP images so printing shouldn’t be a problem.

    I need this one. People have books that are not available to download on the internet and this solves that issue...so you can take those types of books with you on your tablet.

    Hi, looks quite interesting. How fast does it handle photographs ? I ask because I've been looking got a way to scan loads of old photographs and it seems would be much quicker to just plonk them on this, press footpedal, and then quickly replace photo and repeat, my scanner takes quite a lot of time to scan photos.

    • @ConstantGeekery
      @ConstantGeekery  2 года назад +2

      As quick as you can put them down really. You don’t even need to get them straight as the software does that for you. Might need to be careful with the lighting on glossy prints…

    £369 is a really good price! I have quite a few large hardback books I'd love to read on my iPad on the go and this would be great for that.

    I think I've seen a review elsewhere which was very favourable too. I like the quality construction. My use-case would be scanning articles from magazines. How does it cope with complicated page layout and photographs? I was surprised it was so reasonably priced.

      So long as it can see the edges, it works fine. Much faster than using a flatbed!

    while i don't need to scan books often, i do need to scan documents and pictures alot, a decent scanner is a must but in my case a flatbed scanner is a better solution
    use a smartphone to scan is far from ideal tbh because the light source when using a smartphone is the most problematic part, you always leave a shadow or scan has problems of some sort
    this design gives me the idea that someone eventually will come with a app and a 3d printed arm to put your smartphone to do something similar to this, probably the same company
    i hope Erin can be on other videos, the tech world on youtube needs more female presence in my opinion

    Hahahaha Nothing like the “respect” of one’s co-workers or employees. An odd little product. That Erin really knows how to handle a book. How on earth did you come up with this scanner?
    Good job. Worth a chuckle or two…as well as showing us a scanner we rarely would see…thanks.

      It’s a Dell UltraSharp. Not sure which model number as we have lots of them in different sizes. Nice displays though with good colour accuracy.

    Helpful video but you didn't address the one question I'm trying to figure out with this scanner. I just want to see someone scan a bunch of pages in a book as fast as they can. At 10:42, you said no one would ever scan an entire book. This is crazy. There are many instances where entire books need to be scanned. I have 56 family diaries that need to be scanned in so that they can be shared with our extended family and there are no copyrights on that. As I've been researching scanners, I've realized that there is a huge demand for books of all kinds to be digitized, and specialized scanners are being developed to meet this need. There are lots of historical and out-of-print books that need to be preserved and shared through digitization.

      Been a while since we did this, but I reckon you could get down to 5 seconds per page with the foot switch and a decent computer. Thanks for sharing the other use cases.

    This scanner fails utterly on print or photographs with even a little gloss to it. The lights are not diffuse enough, very harsh and create hot spots. Unless you are scanning plain print on matte paper, you are going to be disappointed at the results and cost.

    I stick a couple books under the base to scan larger documents - I use it for scanning model kit manuals as they can be very busy and it's so much faster than a conventional scanner
