Canonical icons combining the symbolism of Jewish practice and the realism of Gentile art is kind of symbolic itself: - Jews and Gentiles all being part of the Church - Christ having both a human and a divine nature in one person - Man being the bridge between the physical and spiritual
This is a great video. I think the misunderstanding of the second commandment is a real problem. Obviously Islam is the issue historically. By the time Martin Luther arrived on the scene, people had no concept of what an idol was. They conflate art with idols. An icon is more than art but it is nothing like an idol.
okay this might be schizo but it’s 3am and i was debating staying awake or sleeping. i was like ill stay awake and there’s a new harmony video and i open youtube and literally the second video was this. christ is king.
In apologetics, there has been a lot of reticence to discuss the explicit claims to icons in passages that people are used to interpreting figuratively. This is ironic, considering the claim is always made against the Orthodox that they "don't have explicit evidence." Yet, we have explicit statements of there being crucifixes. "But that's figurative!" Well, whose claims are not explicit now? I hope you saw your name in the acknowledgments.
@ I don’t see any direct reference to this. But St Justin Martyr may be alluding to the same practice when he speaks of lifting up the icon of the crucified Jesus
The visit to the Church of Alexander Nevsky in Jerusalem is what launched me to Orthodoxy. Grew up Catholic but one look at Koshelev's Passion series sitting in situ was clear evidence my life was empty of the Truth. All Glory and Honor to the Godhead that saved a wretch like me.

Except crosses weren't a predominant symbol until during and after the iconoclasm movement in later centuries.
I'm constantly thankful for harmony
Canonical icons combining the symbolism of Jewish practice and the realism of Gentile art is kind of symbolic itself:
- Jews and Gentiles all being part of the Church
- Christ having both a human and a divine nature in one person
- Man being the bridge between the physical and spiritual
I'm so excited for this!
I am not the strongest theist on the block, but I do appreciate your honest, and intelligent analysis.
Thankyou to the creator of this it brought me to tears of realization 🙏🏽🙏🏻🙏🏾
May God bless you.
Praise be to our lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth ☦️
This is so well done. God bless you.
Beautifully done and properly told!
i love this video on so many levels
This is a great video.
I think the misunderstanding of the second commandment is a real problem. Obviously Islam is the issue historically. By the time Martin Luther arrived on the scene, people had no concept of what an idol was. They conflate art with idols. An icon is more than art but it is nothing like an idol.
okay this might be schizo but it’s 3am and i was debating staying awake or sleeping. i was like ill stay awake and there’s a new harmony video and i open youtube and literally the second video was this. christ is king.
It is not good to watch videos before bed, plus you can retain the information better when your wide awake
Christ is King. 🌟
Great job with this video. Well spoken and amazing images.
The Patocrator was a painting of the Shroud. The late Dr. Allan Wanger made a lens to compare the two, and they are identical.
An impressive and well-presented piece of scholarship. Thank you so much. An often unexplored area of Art History.
great video and insights as always. God bless
Please pray for me and my family I cannot find a church , I have been trying for years .
Babe wake up! Harmony just dropped a banger🙌
Loved learning so much about this topic and seeing the beautiful images
I've been wondering when Galatians 3 was going to make an appearance in this debate.
There’s more related stuff in Galatians, might be able to share stuff on Friday during the after party
@all my friends are in this comment/replies. Don't make me beg for all 3 of you to collaborate on a video
Is there a church father that uses this verse as an example of image veneration?
@ I don’t see any direct reference to this. But St Justin Martyr may be alluding to the same practice when he speaks of lifting up the icon of the crucified Jesus

The visit to the Church of Alexander Nevsky in Jerusalem is what launched me to Orthodoxy. Grew up Catholic but one look at Koshelev's Passion series sitting in situ was clear evidence my life was empty of the Truth. All Glory and Honor to the Godhead that saved a wretch like me.
Why was your life empty of truth before that?
What is the Koshelev’s Passion series?
@@Philotimoman33 a series of Romanesque style Icons done by Nikolai Koshelev. 14:36 shows the Harrowing of Hades, my personal favorite
