  • Sega of America has a long and interesting history. Their time as a publisher on the Atari 2600 was short but fascinating as they worked with a bunch of companies you might not expect.

Thank you for watching! What are some other publishers that you find interesting?

Finally. I’ve been waiting for a video like this. Thanks! SEGA started out as a developer, console maker, and now back as a developer.

Sega is such a unique company, starting as an American amusement company and ending up where they are today. Their own history has as many twists as a game.

I got Star Trek for Christmas in 1983; got a bunch of Star Wars stuff, too. A great year.

I never got a copy of spy hunter, and I was always sad about it. I got tapper instead though, and it was awesome. Congo Bongo was great too.

Had Tapper for the C-64. Loved it! Have Congo Bongo Tac Scan and Sun Scan for the 2600

I heard "Tac-Scan" as "Tax Scam", which would have been an impressive concept for a 2600 game.

There is a game called Tax Avoiders for the 2600.

@@PaulWerkema I'm looking at the box for that and it looks more like a satire of Reaganomics than a real actual game that exists.

I wonder if the specs for the actual desk for the 760 are available anywhere; it'd be neat to try to build a desk for a modern PC that looked as close to it as possible.

Something I've always found interesting: Sega published Congo Bongo, Zaxxon, and Super Zaxxon on cartridge for the C64. At least in the US, in Europe/UK, I guess they were published by US Gold. However, there were also different disk-based versions of all three games. Congo Bongo is listed as being published by Sega/US Gold, Zaxxon was published by Synapse Software, and Super Zaxxon was published by HesWare.
The disk version of Congo Bongo completely blows the cartridge version out of the water. The cartridge version looks like crap.
The disk version of Zaxxon isn't quite as faithful to the arcade version graphically, but it plays very well. The cartridge version looks more like the arcade (other than the oval fuel tanks), but doesn't play as well.
Both versions of Super Zaxxon look faithful to the arcade, but I think the disk version plays better.

All this work and researching of ancient history and then your Atari 2600 games are in 16:9 aspect ratio

Sega also brought or published games on other game consoles including the atari 5200 ,colecovision and intelevision, etc,;; but not on the atari 7800 because by that point they had already their own game consoles,
Now i wonder wich sega fan would like to collect those sega games on atari systems among other ones because that might be cool for them as well.

You should have mentioned all the extras that came with some of the Sega games: the stickers and stickers sheet for Sub Scan and Tac-Scan, the Dual Control Module with velcro pads for Spy Hunter, and the joystick overlay for Star Trek.
