I've been doing enlargements with that software for a long time and the results never fail to impress me. This was another great tutorial video Anthony. I always appreciate your tuition on Luminar AI. Loving that editor and loving it when you show us what it's capable of!
Was checking out Luminar tuts and bumped into Anthony Turnham. Amazing tutorial by the author - quick, to the point, no bullshit. Subscribing as this is definitely in my Top5 list of photography/photo-manipulation/photo-editing category. Kudos, Anthony!
Great info as Im always learning …even tho Ive had Luminar for some years I haven’t quite grasped it as simply as it seems. Might be my macbook is bit old . Im using Neo now. So my question is when i take some beach shots and i try to put them up to print /enlarge to canvas or large prints my printing app says low resolution 😔( havent done any real editing at that point like Neo ) …. So disappointing when others come up fine no low resolution warning . Would GigaPixel A1 correct that issue ? Or do I need to use both apps ? Im not often cropping an image. Im bit lost Im afraid . Many thanks Anthony …aussie fan here .
Hi Tracey. Yes, Gigapixel would definitely resolve that problem. Printers like files to have a certain amount of pixels for every inch of printing. Too few and your photo will not look good. Gigapixel can enlarge the photo (with or without Neo) to any size up to 6x bigger.
Could all this been done in Luminar Neo? (not including Giga pixel topaz) I Did a test of Luminar ai and liked it but then bought Luminar Neo thinking that it had more features. By the way I love your presentations.
Thanks Kim. No the upscaling is unique to Gigapixel. Since I did this video I've tried a few others and none of them come close to what Gigapixel can do. Thanks for the praise on the vids :)

Amazing, I hope they some how bring this to old video footage. Have seen some attempts at A.I. upscaling and colouring of early 1900's black and white films.
It's really impressive eh. I just had someone buy a 100x50cm canvas print, but the original file was from 2012 on a 12mp camera. I ran the upscale and bammo! It looks great 👍👌😀. I think I'll have a very happy customer.
I'm late in the game...so to speak Anthony, but I do have Luminar Ai, Neo and Gigapixel Ai, yet...I've never used layers in my life, thus have so much to learn! I also have and use Topaz applications when needed, so I have an arsenal of apps, but my expertise is very limited, so I'm quite enjoying your videos! I unfortunately don't seem to have a lot of time, which is my downfall, but will try and catch up as time allows, so off to watch some of your other videos! Thanks for putting in the time for us!
Dear Anthony, Thanks for another outstanding tutorial. I am amazed at the amount of information you can fit into your videos. I have two questions: 1. I liked the way you used the clone tool. Had you considered using the erase tool instead of the clone tool to remove the bright spots in the background? 2. My experience has been that Topaz Gigapixel AI works better on RAW than JPEG. In this case, you would have had to use Gigapixel at the outset. What are your thoughts? Otherwise, would you have derived better results exporting the edited photo as a tiff file? Thanks, again.
Hi there. Thanks for the kind words. I always do my best to fit in valuable info as best I can. So to your questions... 1) Yes I tried the eraser. The results weren't as good. 2) I'd need to dig deeper into that raw vs jpeg scenario, but yes if I had the raw I would use that for sure ahead of a jpeg. Not just for Topaz but for the full edit in Luminar too. I'm always working on my RAW versions wherever I can. 3) Exporting as a Tiff isn't really going to add much because we don't have the extra file data, bit depth etc. to save anyway. The jpeg export is fine in this case.
When I first started using gigapixel I thought I was better off just enlarging something twice size. But then I realized if I were to enlarge it four times or six times that gives the program more pixels to work with and to make more detail, it actually really works better the more you enlarge.
@@AnthonyTurnham I think for me though it will take time to get my head around the process as it’s different than Luminar AI. I found it a little clunkier than LAI. Maybe you ought to do a tutorial Anthony 😉
I love Gigapixel! It works wonders on old digital and analog photos also! For cropped photos it is essential! If you choose to do a video on it you may want to experiment with using it before cropping! So many ways to do this makes photo editing totally amazing!! Waiting for the new Luminar Neo also!!
Hi Lonnie. Thanks mate. I'll do a video dedicated to Gigapixel in the future. Sorry, I've not long got up here in NZ and maybe I'm being a bit dense. Sorry could you just clarify what you mean about experimenting with cropping. Cheers pal 🙏😀
@@AnthonyTurnham I meant to say start the edit with Gigapixel AI and crop later. Of course the size greatly increases! I like the way that you done this one though! This is a very very good video, so enjoyable to watch someone that has your kind of enthusiasm! Great explanations of all the steps!!
@@AnthonyTurnham I think he means to use gigapixel on the photo before its been cropped at all . I did read a few article a few years back relating to this that you should edit, enhance etc before any cropping has been done and then at the end of a edit to then do the cropping and sharpening. I dont know if this still holds true or not...Any thoughts? It had something to do with retaining all the current pixels in the image as a whole and not deleting them first.
I just went to gigapixel and I watched a video on the site itself that says you should do all your editing first and then do your crop right before you take it into gigapixel... He was referring to raw files.
Really enjoy your videos. I too enjoy photo editing and am a big fan of Luminar & Topaz products. There is one thing I have always wonder about editing, is it better to enlarge the photo and then edit it; or as you did in this video, edit the photo and then enlarge it? I mean isn't that the whole hype about RAW files, there's more information for you to work with.
If I had the raw file I'd still follow the same method of edit first, and then enlarge. And absolutely a raw file is going to give you so much more latitude to boss that file around during the edit without introducing bad artifacts - like we see on the birds chest that I have to fix up with local masking.
I love this programme.... just abit frustrating that it doesn't use GoPro Raw photos... we have to convert the GoPro photos to another format before LAI will recognise the file.
Thanks for the video. it's amazing~ so, if we can use Gigapixel AI, What is the use of the High pixel camera...just like Sony A7R4? how do you think about it?...
It's better to have the right resolution straight out of camera, for sure. Gigapixel is a great fix for when you don't have that luxury - or someone needs an ultra high res print.
With gigapixel if I post the after photo will viewers see more noticeable detail and sharpness than if I posted the before photo. I have a Panasonic fz1000 with a 400mm zoom. When I take photos of birds I run out of zoom very fast and have to crop alot to get composition I want.
Hi Charles. It depends on the resolution you're wanting to post at. If you're zooming on an original and it's losing detail in the version you share, then, yes, gigapixel will be able to upscale it with better detail. It's ideal for images that you're applying heavy cropping to.
I like these detailed tutorials however I don't have this amount of time to spend on editing photos! If I spend half an hour or even 15m on each photo then I might as well give up. Other than that, I always enjoy watching your professional tutorials!
Hi Dave. Thanks for the comment. Yes, I get you! Most of the images I chose to show on the channel are ones that NEED fixing in some way. For most of my photography I'd never dream of indulging in these kind of lengthy edits. Inside a minute for most shots is what I aim for, sometimes just a quick preset that deals with the technicalities of exposure, contrast and shadow and highlight recovery is all that's needed.
Many thanks Anthony, I really enjoyed your video, although I have luminar 4 and luminar AI and have pre- ordered Neo, you have shown me things I wasn’t aware of in the software, so thank you again, and I would like to see you do a video on gigapixel.
A really good tutorial, shows what can be achieved fairly quickly. I am very tempted to buy Luminar ai, but just wish it would do panorama stitching, I really don’t want to be running two separate programs to achieve this.
I upgraded from luminar 3 straight into luminar aí I’ve used the luminar 4 only the trial version but i did not think it would be worth the upgrade from luminar 3 to luminar 4 specially when I had adobe creative cloud with all the adobe softwares for desktop and mobile as well but now luminar aí catch my attention and I don’t regret buying I’m just waiting for when they team will have a mobile app and make some more improvements to their software
The gigapixel also adds detail.I put in a very low resolution image that had blurred grass, the gigapixel easily created 2k grass on this mess, and it was not just grass, but with other types of plants
Great highlight vid as always sir. I should know this having Luminar for over a year, but there’s just no select subject/magic wand feature anything like Photoshop rt? Fantastic before and after job here.
Thanks! As far as a magic wand or the like goes, no, not in Luminar AI. There will be a subject selection tool being added to Luminar NEO though. Doesn't ship on initial launch but will be coming. We should automatically be able to select classes of objects such as trees, buildings, animals, etc. I believe there will be 11 classes to start with and then that set will grow as time goes on.
Hi Anthony great informational video!! But I was wondering what your definition of a small sensor is. I have a Canon 5D MK III which I believe is a 22mp camera.
Hi mate. I shot weddings for years on 2 x 24mp D750s and that was ample for printing albums and the occasional canvas too, so I'd say you'd be rocking a good mid-resolution sensor there. Nice! Nowadays, I'd consider small sensors those spitting out sub 16mp files. But image quality comes down to other factors too such as how sharp your lenses are, how stable your technique is etc. etc. And whether it's considered small comes down to your end goal. If all you ever want to do is upload to instagram then 2mp might do the job 😉👍
Extremely nice editing, Anthony! Well done! But another question arises for me: Do you know which bird this is or where this photo was taken, and if not, can you put me in touch with Leanne so I can ask her? Thanks a lot in advance!
Thank you very much, Anthony. Then let's hope that Leanne will read this. I've already searched for her, but I couldn't find a RUclips channel or homepage...
Hey Anthony I love your videos! They are very helpful. Could you do a video on your Wacom editing tablet? Id love to know more about it and how it helps you with your edits. Thank you for the great videos!
Luminar or Gigapixel? No, I had a crash when working on Luminar on the first release but since then smooth sailing. I think the more RAM you have the less likely you are to experience any issues.
Hi. Thanks for the kudos. I think the cost depends on where you're checking out. I'm in NZ with NZ dollars? Where are you? Maybe, just check the link: bit.ly/gigapixel-ai
Thanks for this very helpfull video. I learned a lot from it. One question: how do you change the source so quick when using the stamp tool. Is it a key-stroke?
If you right click on an image in Lightroom and select enhance an option is super resolution that doubles the resolution., it does it using AI. since it's included in Lightroom I wanted to know how it compares to Gigapixel that you have to purchase separately
I find this tool (that I paid $150 for) so confusing and not at all easy to use. I just added an image to the catalog, and in the edit tool, but my menu options look nothing like what you have and I don't understand how to get there. I have just subscribed, so hoping an earlier video might be helpful. thanks
I wish I had a 4k screen 😕 yes good point about the zooming. It just adds a lot more time to my post production. I've done it on a few videos but like I say, it's more involved. I'll try to do more like that in the future.
Excellent tutorial, I have Luminar Ai but find it very slow even on my high spec computer, so not used it very much for that reason, hope the Neo version will be better. Can’t see the link for Gigapixel, would like to support you with buying a copy via your link. Best wishes and keep up the good work.
Had the same problem with AI on my kinda beast pc ,then used AI on my 2012 Mac book and it’s runs really good tho it’s lower spec then my pc lol that weird 😂
Glad I’m not alone. After all the frustration and total bs from Skylum I’ve come to the conclusion that AI was schemed for Mac. Even after their “updates” I still experience crashes and slow processing. As you add more masks you are guaranteed to crash Funny that all the ambassadors never experience as much as a fart friend AI. I broke down and bought the Neo at discount. Must be a glutton for frustration. Guarantee no matter how crappy it is they will never recognize an issue. Would love to see anybody YT AI or Neo on a PC
@@bluejay3945 yeah maybe ,all the forums all full of people that having trouble with crashes ,I have had 1 crash on my Mac tho ,but on my pc it’s every 2nd or 3rd photo I edited ,and every time had to delete the catalogs and make new one..just too much time and effort ,on my Mac runs smoothly
Hi Anthony, have you tried Topaz's other products? Apart from Topaz Gigapixal AI I also have Topaz DeNoise AI, Topaz Sharpen AI, Topaz, Topaz Adjust AI, all of which I'm happy with. However, as I wrote in my previous post, I'm not happy with Topaz JPEG to RAW AI, it seems a waste of money, luckily I only downloaded the trial version. Could you comment on these editing packages Anthony? 😸😸 By the way, I don't like these new emojis, they are not as cute as the old ones. Felix the Cat. 😺😺
Hi Felix. For you, I will certainly endeavour to cover these products too. Yes, I'm familiar with all - apart from the jpeg to raw (because I've been shooting all my work in raw for 15 years or so, so I haven't needed that type of product. But I'm happy to take a look. I've got a lot on at the moment but leave it with me and I'll try and get some content produced going forward. Thanks for your support as always. And yeah, the emojis aren't the best. It's so hard to create something impactful and recognizable with just 16x16 pixels!
Hi Anthony! Yes Gigapixal AI is remarkable - I also use it to enlarge my photos! But I'm not so impressed with Topaz's JPEG to RAW AI, I don't think it does a good enough job. What do you think Anthony? Felix the Cat. 😺😺 By the way, the emojis have changed!
Hi FTC 😉 I'll see what I can do about some better emojis - but they should be the same. I did 4 originally, uploaded them, and haven't changed them. hmmm.... I'll see what I can do! 😜
I tried LAI, the software is very good but it is tremendously slow and that is the biggest complaint of its users, besides, they never finish fine-tuning the software that they already release a new one with another name. They end up confusing users and also force them to pay for other software to have features that could have been implemented in the previous one. They are absolutely messy, they have to dedicate themselves to improving what they are already selling and not "inventing" a new software per year. The AI is also not that it contributes much, nothing that cannot be done with any other software.
I think the way Luminar AI's core engine is set up means that the AI is pretty processor hungry. This causes the bottlenecks unless you've got a relatively beefy system. This was the reason for rebuilding the foundation of the program - I covered this in the first vid I did on it if you wanna check it out.
The headline seems to promise that AI does the "Increase Image Resolution" as well as the edit. That is was I wanted to see, only to learn I have to buy another piece of software. Pretty misleading if you ask me.
Hi mate. There's a character limit for the titles. The "and increase image resolution without losing quality" was about the limit. Addinf "Using AI in Gigapixel from Topaz Labs" to the already long title was a stretch too far. Sorry about that.
There is a free alternative to Gigapixel AI, which is called Waifu 2x. You can get the free download on Github, but it is not as user friendly as Gigapixel, because it has no preview and you have to experiment with the options a little bit to get good results. Nevertheless one can upsize in high quality for free. Just google for waifu 2x extension gui and enjoy a great upscaler.
Thanks, I am an Luminar Early Bird, got everything they have released. Admittedly, that was because I found out they were Ukrainian, and I just love Ukraine with all my tears ♥️Unite with our brothers in Ukraine against the ressuracted Adolf Hitler from Hell 00in Moscow ❤️
Hi Felix. TBH I probably won't. I've got more out and about on location vids I want to do and also some vids on techniques for shooting - they're all currently on hold due to my time being spread so thin. A couple of months until NEO and Ill defo be doing some vids around that and I'm sure it'll be a worthy successor to Luminar 4.

But image quality comes down to other factors too such as how sharp your lenses are, how stable your technique is etc. etc. And whether it's considered small comes down to your end goal. If all you ever want to do is upload to instagram then 2mp might do the job 😉👍
thanks for posting.
Can they do hardware acceleration?
" GigaPixel Ai" !!! Awwsome Anthony...
That was an excellent video, thanks for all the BTS editing info. I love Luminar ai for my non technical brain.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Can you do a comparison of Luminar Neo to Gigapixel AI?
Hi Anthony, a video focused on Gigapixel would be very much appreciated. This was, as always a really great video. Many thanks.
Thanks Tony!
Extremely nice editing, Anthony! Well done! But another question arises for me: Do you know which bird this is or where this photo was taken, and if not, can you put me in touch with Leanne so I can ask her? Thanks a lot in advance!
Hi Michael. Ornithology is far from my strong point I'm afraid! Hopefully Leanne will read this and let us know 😀
Thank you very much, Anthony. Then let's hope that Leanne will read this. I've already searched for her, but I couldn't find a RUclips channel or homepage...
Soooo cool my friend 💎💪🏽😉
Thanks ✌
Hey Anthony I love your videos! They are very helpful. Could you do a video on your Wacom editing tablet? Id love to know more about it and how it helps you with your edits. Thank you for the great videos!
Appreciated the video, and yes would love a Gigapixel video. ALSO would really like a video on your use of a Wacom tablet.
Have it, but would like a user video on Gigapixel AI
Thank you 🙏🏻
Gigapixel. Nice demo! I'd like to see you use Topaz' Sharpen and Mask as well. Thanks!
Thanks Seth.
Very well done.
GIGAPIXEL (btw, thanks for the nice edit tutorial)
do you have problems with the software crashing all the time
Luminar or Gigapixel? No, I had a crash when working on Luminar on the first release but since then smooth sailing. I think the more RAM you have the less likely you are to experience any issues.
Excellent tutorial Anthony. I would also love a Gigapixel demo tutorial. What sort of price are we talking about?
Hi. Thanks for the kudos. I think the cost depends on where you're checking out. I'm in NZ with NZ dollars? Where are you? Maybe, just check the link: bit.ly/gigapixel-ai
@@AnthonyTurnham Hi Anthony I am in the UK in £ the link is in dollars but does not say which.
Please do the dedicated gigapixel video.
I would definitely like to see a gigapixel demo
Topaz Denoise, Sharpen and Gigapixel as so good they will make you shake your head in disbelief.
Yeah, whenever I use them I'm always impressed with what they can do!
Thanks for this very helpfull video. I learned a lot from it. One question: how do you change the source so quick when using the stamp tool. Is it a key-stroke?
Hi, sorry I should have said in the vid. Hold Alt (or Option on Mac) and click on the new sample area.
Amazing
Excellent, mate.
Thanks David 👍😀
@@AnthonyTurnham Seriously, mate. Always learning from your tutorials. Great approach. Thanks.
Nice man ty
How does gigapixel compare to enhance in Lightroom?
Which feature do you mean in Lightroom? What do you mean by "enhance"?
If you right click on an image in Lightroom and select enhance an option is super resolution that doubles the resolution., it does it using AI. since it's included in Lightroom I wanted to know how it compares to Gigapixel that you have to purchase separately
I find this tool (that I paid $150 for) so confusing and not at all easy to use. I just added an image to the catalog, and in the edit tool, but my menu options look nothing like what you have and I don't understand how to get there. I have just subscribed, so hoping an earlier video might be helpful. thanks
Hi, are you referring to Topaz or Luminar? The interface for both has been updated since I recorded this...
u are best bro
Thx 😊
You have a 4k screen...not everyone can watch the videos in super high quality.
Please try to zoom in when explaining something... THANKS 😊
I wish I had a 4k screen 😕 yes good point about the zooming. It just adds a lot more time to my post production. I've done it on a few videos but like I say, it's more involved. I'll try to do more like that in the future.
Gigapixel!
Excellent tutorial, I have Luminar Ai but find it very slow even on my high spec computer, so not used it very much for that reason, hope the Neo version will be better. Can’t see the link for Gigapixel, would like to support you with buying a copy via your link. Best wishes and keep up the good work.
Thanks Vincent That's awesome and I really appreciate the support. Here's the full link: www.topazlabs.com/gigapixel-ai/ref/671/?campaign=GigapixelAI
As you add more masks you are guaranteed to crash
Funny that all the ambassadors never experience as much as a fart friend AI.

@@AnthonyTurnham I think it's Google who have changed the emoji style, yours are fine, but could you add a few more? Cheers! Felix the Cat. 😺😺
This was the reason for rebuilding the foundation of the program - I covered this in the first vid I did on it if you wanna check it out.
gigapixel!
Great if you're working with digital images. But what if you're working with scanned older images (pre-digital age)?
Hmmm... good question Lee. why don't you send me a few scans to anthonyeditsyourphotos@gmail.com and I'll try and take a look.
gigapixel Anthony
Nice. Thanks Cesar.
downloaded the demo - it does not accept copy paste to enter credentials
Strange. Looks like you'll have to type them in then.
Gigapixel 👍
So "enhance!" From the movies is real now?!
Yeah, zoom into a low res bit of footage of the badguy's blurry number plate, say "enhance" a couple of times and bingo! 😆
No I know what masking is thank you
Gigapixal demo please.
Gigapixel please!
GIGAPIXYL video please!!!!
Just a thought Anthony, some of us, like me, still have Luminar 4, any chance of some videos on this seemingly ancient software? Felix the Cat.
Gigapixel, please
