    He was a music director with his very own style and substance, and composed very sweet and melodious tunes, that are being so popular even after more than 6 decades.
    A MD unparalled and par excellence. Such music composers are born in centuries. He was the highest paid music director of his time, that too without any formal music training and learning.
    Long live unique MD's everlasting songs and through these songs lives his memories of the bygone musical era.
    He must be given Bharat Ratna along with great Muhammed Rafi, the world's most focus singer, par excellence.

    We all know O P Nayyar as a unique music composer who introduced the audience to a style that had rhythm as a focal point but without compromising on melody. And he never failed to touch listeners' hearts with his compositions. After listening to this Jaymala programme, I came to know that he was very proficient in beautiful spoken Urdu, albeit with his cute Punjabi accent. And he obviously was keen follower of Urdu shaayri as well. No wonder he was master of his art.

    A genius.His romantic songs are the best!Asha Bhonsle and he professionally separated due to some misunderstandings.That is fine.But Asha forgot that,though she was an uncut diamod,OPN chiseled her into a scintillating one.By the time she moved into the tent of RD,she was an excellent singer. Courtesy : OPN. RD did not have to take the trouble of training her.His job became easier.It is very sad that not even once she mentioned that her career and voice are the great gifts of OPN.

    Om Sankar has said "A mistake by OPN. He refers to the song about Hemant Kumar which is actually sung by Mahendra Kapoor".
    I wish to correct Om Sankar. There was no mistake by OPNayyar.
    O P Nayyar was absolutely correct when he said that Hemant Kumar sang for him in the film Sambandh. In the song 'Jo diya tha tumne ek din' - Mahendra Kapoor is the main singer but there is one verse (omitted in the radio version) which was sung by Hemant Kumar (for Pradeep Kumar who plays the father of the hero Deb Mukherjee) in the film version. It is the only time Hemant Kumar sang for O P Nayyar. It is really nice to hear OPN speak so nicely of Hemant Kumar who was indeed a colossal figure in the field of film music (Hindi and Bengali).

    He had a typical style of rythum and melody, many a time apper to be repeatetive but always refreshing and unique. No body could match him in those days right from Aasman to Zid his all were signeture compositions. Due to his adamand and stuborn attitude people used to fear him. Had he been a little tactful and considerate we would have been blessed with many more tunes from this genius. I was fortunate to talk to him on telephone, 1 month before his departure (Courtsey Dr. Subhash Nargolkar Pune. )

    This is an invaluable video.. Thanks for uploading it. OPN mentions Hemantkumar, but the song he plays after that is sung by Mahendra Kapoor.. In fact MK sings that song so beautifully.. It is only at the end that Hemantji sings one verse for Pradeepkumar.. Unfortunately that last verse by Hemant Kumar is not played.. But what pains me is that OPN doesn't mention the name of Mahendra kapoor.. I have seen that many people and TV channels do not talk of Mahendra Kapoor among the great singers of India. I feel it was Mahendra Kapoor who came closest to Rafi in singing, range, variety, voice, etc.. !!!

      OP composed music for 8 KK starrers + 2 play-back movies. Take all the KK songs from these 10 OP-scored movies. Then you will realize the depth of OP composed songs. And don’t forget that movie plots put limitations on the style of songs, whereas playback is open-ended. Presuming you are a KK fan, analyzing the songs from these 10 movies will be an eye-opener. Just the combination of diverse voices such as KK+Rafi+Shamshad Begum in one song “Tu aaja re ki dil hai beqaraar” is worth its weight in gold. Which MD has attempted this?

    • @Neelt2001
      @Neelt2001 9 лет назад +7

      Nick Kohri I agree. I'm a HUGE KK fan and I like you, HAVE analysed his output with OP Nayyar. What's ironic is OP Nayyar, despite not caring for KK too much as a singer (he said it himself in an interview) was one of the earliest music directors to give KK diverse songs such as the ghazal "Apna To Zamaane Mein" which also doubles as a qawwali, soft romantic numbers (which in those days were usually reserved for Rafi or Talat) like "Meri Neendon Mein Tum" and of course, OP's typical ghoda-gadi type songs like "Piya Piya Piya" and "Piya Main Hoon Patang." He was also one of the earliest composers to compose several duets by Rafi & KK, as well as trios like the one you mentioned. It's too bad that while KK went on to achieve an enormous amount of fame in the latter part of his career, OP's career dwindled from 70s onward. If the latter hadn't happened, maybe their output would have been even stronger than it is today.

    • @nickkohri
      @nickkohri 9 лет назад +5

      neelt2001 OP was a very temperamental and a moody person, and often picked fights with the movie producers (just like Sajjad Hussein) who were paying his salary! Therefore, he had very few sympathizers in Bollywood. This resulted in fewer movie offers than he would have had, had he been humble. But he always rose to the occasion regardless of the singer. For example, he was not fond of Talat but he HAD to compose songs for him because Talat was in the movie Sone Ki Chidiya. And the two songs he composed are just superb. Same line of thought holds for Suraiyya (Mr Lambu) and, of course, KK. His career dwindled after the '70s coz Asha refused to sing for him any more (just like Lata refused to sing for C Ramchandra). What a coincidence that both the sisters' actions are identical!!

    Sorry to say, the song presented by great OP as composition of Anil Biswas (Rahi Matwale) is actually copy of a famous song of Rabindra Nath Tagore (Ore grihabasi--).

    he was a composer with out knowledge of pure music like naushad saab.. he even copied and presented in a different style of many naushad compositions in a way that no one will understand that it was a naushad tune actually..

      Yes, you could have presented some examples of original Naushad songs and O P Nayyar's improvisation. That could have revealed the genius of both.

      O P Nayyar was indeed a great genius from another world, unmatched, unparalleled, incomparable, the greatest melody and rhythm king, another name of a living and highly vibrant musician.He was uncompromising when choosing tunes and natural flow of music.
      He was unique in many respects, and established himself through his own style and special work in all walks of music, the one and only one Onkar Prasad Nayyar. RIP.
      There can't be another unique musician like late O P Nji. He was an institution in himself.

      Rev J. S Rathi Sir_ God bless you. I salute your goodself for your comment. Greatest O P Nayyar sahab lives as God iny heart. He took me as his son. Do you know who said these words about him " Hazaaron kanch ke tukre jwahar ban nahin sakte jo chahe har koi agar Nayyar ban nahin sakte" Please reply. This is my good luck he spent ten days with me as father at Sonepat in 1992 although I have never been to Bombay.

    It would have been much more useful and enlightening if O.P.Nayyar had narrated his musical struggle and personal experiences with singers, producers and other persons, instead of reciting sher-o-shayri which serves no purpose. The man was a genius, but at the end we don't know anything about his special techniques and liking and dislike as a music director. He does not give us any idea how he used to compose tunes and arrange orchestra. On the whole, this programme is a total waste of time.
