Nice method man!, I can add one more tip, Using mudbox to draw the curves instead of using paint fx also works great.

When I want to use the region map to paint one side, the other side is painted symmetrically, and I only want to paint 1 side, how do I remove the symmetry???

One of the most useful, quick easy to follow, tutorial I ever saw! And I saw many... Just one little thing. The gentle scale to snap the the first cv of the curves does not work for me. I'm currently using maya 2015. Is it the reason?...

You need to make sure the scalp mesh is set to Live mode, if you still have problems, you can just use a handy little script called xyShrinkwrap. I prefer to use this script to attach or ground the guides to the scalp.

Thanks Daniel. I indeed made the scalp mesh live. I use live a lot. To make it I did one hair at a time. But i't's time consuming. I'll try the script. And I love so much your method it really Change my life!... Really. I will send you some example of what I did with it soon.

pain effect tool acting like an idiot though, after I made it paintable I started to paint and the lines are not straight but a lot of lines crooked/bending in every directions plus the most annoying part is its found on my models feet instead of on the hair.

Had the same problem, I fixed it by running an auto UV on the scalp before trying to paint the strokes on it.

yea, paint effects just needs UVs to draw onto the geometry
