3:12 despite clearing his family from any legal consequences, the pain in Walt’s face just makes you sympathize with the fact that he never meant to cause his family harm, especially Hank.
In my opinion, Heisenberg died when Hank was shot dead. From that point onwards we are just watching Walt trying to make things right and save what is left of his family, under the disguise of Heisenberg in order to intimidate his opposition.
Agreed. I also think, that's when Walt failed. Not the phone call with flynn, not the fight with flynn and Skylar, just the death of Hanks. Because this is the one thing that walt wanted to avoid since the beginning: The death of a family member. Because of Walt hank is dead and Walt knew it. Sure, Walt got some closure. But he still lost the game
Right. From there he isn’t as intimidating as he was before because Heisenberg was no longer there. You get that with the last scene of Saul and Walter together in the basement. Saul doesn’t fear Heisenberg cause he knows he no longer there. Also, that’s the starting point of the man hunt and we see Walt grow out his hair. He doesn’t have the unique bald Heisenberg look anymore.
@@vilsobraska4464 It was Jessie's fault for being dumb, and emotionally immature/volatile. It has always been that way. There were numerous occasions where Walt had secured a good situation for him and Jessie, only for Jessie to ruin it big time over and over again. 3:00 god, the tears just POURING down his face when he has to use Hank's death, which absolutely broke him, as a "threat". The acting on all fronts is seriously incredible.
As someone who just became a father, seeing Walt abandon his child like that knowing he likely won't see them again has to be the hardest I have ever cried to a TV show
You can see how when Walt says “you will never see Hank again” he has to say it menacingly to have the cops pursue him over Skylar, yet he shows immense sorrow for Hanks death with his facial expressions almost like he wants to cry. Amazing acting.
Watching Walt struggle to stay into Heisenberg as he delivers that message, almost breaking down is powerful acting. He knows his son is there and will hear a monster, but he needs to keep Skylar safe
Walt made that call to vent his anger. Skyler accused him of killing Hank and attacked him with a knife, and Jr called the cops ON HIM instead of on her! Who wouldn't be angry in Walt's place?
@@JustRememberWhoYoureWorkingFor I mean was she wrong? Even then after everything Walt did to her I think she was well in her right to kill him right then and there
Credit to both of the actors, of course, but I want to give special appreciation to the incredible writing and direction. The scene was so perfectly written that we got to simultaneously experience the realization of what Walt was doing alongside Skylar. So wonderfully executed.
It wasn’t really an impersonation but rather a faked acting performance of a pretend Skyler. To make it seem like she’s the victim. It’s campy and exaggerated, but essentially a smart move.
@@jyn7154 I didn't realise Walter was trying to incriminate himself and let Skyler off the hook when I wathced this. The line where he goes "What do you know about what I do? Nothing!" purposefully said it for the police to hear that wow
Holly was robbed of an Emmy. That was the most convincing acting I’ve ever seen. You can really tell that she understands why Walter had to take the blame for everything to save Skylar. Even though Holly tried to talk him out of it. Holly knew Walter had more Bad to Break, and the realization the Bad wasn’t going to be Broken anymore broke her, and she really sold the emotions a baby would have coming to that realization.
Marie's face at 2:55. How can you not cry? She knows now her husband has definitely been violently murdered, and because of her brother in law... What AMAZING acting.

2:44 the fact that you can see by the emotions that Walt wants to say that it wasn't his fault (it kinda was but indirectly) that Hank died, but he has to say badass sounding stuff to save Skyler from a prison sentence, perfect acting
1:09 - I like the emotion Skyler shows here. She figured out that he was purposely doing that to get the heat on him 100%. She got even more emotional once she heard that because it was truly a selfless thing Walt did, for once.
In one of the DVD extras they have some alternate angles of the final scene with Walt, Skylar and Holly. As he's leaving the room he takes her by the hand for a moment one last time .. really nice detail that I believe the main camera didn't catch

It wasn’t until I saw this comment section that I realized walt’s actual intent here. He is saving her. Making sure she wasn’t made to be an accomplice. I just thought he was gaslighting her, being an ass. God this show is so damn good
Talk about layers of acting too from both Gunn and Cranston, as Skyler has the dawning realization of what he is doing and Walt is devastated and sad but still putting on that abusive act.
The way Skylar says "you're right" gives me chills. It's the smallest ray of hope in this unbelievably shitty situation. She understands what the plan is and will play along and has signalled this to Walt. They get to work together one last time
Saul basically says as much later on. Next time you watch through, pay close attention to the scene when Walt ends up in the disappearer's basement with Saul, their very last scene together. Saul references this phone call and essentially confirms Walt's intention was to help her by doing it.
ZgAsLiGhTing bruh people like you that parrot things will always have scenes like this go over your head, y’all along for the ride not free thinking or critically lol
3:09 And this is when Walt demanded that Skylar let that sink in. It’s amazing to see how much compassion he still has for sinks after how dark of a road he’s been down. Props to the writers for making sure walt cares about letting that sink in!
0:56 is some brilliant acting from Anna Gunn. We see Skyler confused at what Walt is going on about, because she knows she never said any of those things to himp, and Anna Gunn portrays Skyler's realization that Walt is lying for the police solely through facial expressions. Anna Gunn submitted this episode for her Emmy and won
Hey im curious. Is that how that works? Do actors have to personally submit their best acting clips from their shows to be considered for emmy nominations?
That “last memory” speech Walt had about his father with Flynn was so meaningful towards the end of season 5, this is gonna be one of Flynn’s last memory of his father now

@@madgavin7568 it's because the whole show has been directed in a way that makes you want to root for Heisenberg even though he was the vilest pos. So even when his wife was obviously being the much more reasonable person, she obviously keeps coming at odds with walter and that annoys the viewers.
This episode won Emmys for both Bryan Cranston and Anna Gunn, and goddamn it's easy to see why. Skyler's facial expressions as she realizes Walt is lying for her is perfect
1:15 some of the best subtle face acting out there. That shocking realization when Skyler realizes that Walt is actually doing here, and then seeing her cogs turn to play along.
Notice how when Walter ask her "Are you alone, no police" She tells her "No, no police" pausing a little bit soo Walter could knew that she indeed wasnt alone
I think Walter had known from beggining she was about to say ,,no" and also had knew it was a lie. It was just too obvious she would talk in presence of police so he took opportunity to clear his wife to get her off the hook.
Bryan Cranston simultaneously portraying the visible remorseful anguish on Walt's face and remorseless abject cruelty in his voice is beautiful acting.
It's a small part compared to the top tier acting on Cranston and Gunn's parts, but Marie's reaction to hearing her husband is dead is just heart-wrenching to me
Her small role in this scene is so underrated, her acting always makes me tear up during this scene. You can see and feel the pain and hopelessness she feels.
Everyone’s applauding Walt’s and Skylar’s performance, but can we talk about how good the baby’s acting was? No crying, no pooping, straight professional!
This might be the most brilliant scene in the entire series. For Walt to realize how the best thing he could do was make it look like everything was his doing and his doing alone to save Skylar, and the way that it was written and executed. Absolutely unreal. This is right up there with "I watched Jane die. I could have saved her, and I didn't."

4:16 Weird detail (that I may be exaggerating) but only the King and the Knight is left on the white side, with 2 other pawns left. This could mean a lot of things, like Walt being the King desperately avoiding to be checked/caught, or the knight being his only lifeline left (the Vacuum guy) or the pawns being Pete and Badger, the last two workers he hired in his life.
The acting in this show is some of the best I have ever seen in any show or movie. Everything just sounds so raw and real, especially Walter's, "You're never gonna see Hank again" line. You can feel every single ounce of pain and shame he feels for both saying this and allowing it to happen in the first place.
Definitely the best moment in the show, all this anger building from people not appreciating Walt and feeling like Skylar always looked down on him this is how your do a villain properly.
I seriously can’t tell which of these comments are facetious and which ones are real anymore after just reading about 2 minutes worth of them and I read pretty fast lol. They’re all so similar. Some are obvious and some aren’t.
Cranston’s acting here is absolutely incredible. The way Walt is painfully saying all these things. He knows he’s helping his family but the pain it brings him to say it is so real. Brilliant.
Remember, Sir. Anthony Hopkins left an immaculate tribute to this entire cast and crew about how incredibly well the story was told, through an email that was leaked. And that guy knows something about acting.
Nah it's more like in 1:00 . She was confused about Walt immitating her "you have to stop, it's illegal" when they already know she voluntarily joined the Drug business with Walt. This is the moment she realized Walt was only talking about the parts where she can be off the hook. At 1:41 Walt faces looks like "right now you should've realized everything what I just said"
Walter White was literally a mastermind that created the biggest drug ring in the US and eluded police for 2 years. There is no way any competent person would think he would be dumb enough to say all that to his wife over the phone when he knows they would have it bugged.

It is terribly, terribly heart-wrenching...I am rather easily induced into crying during films, but this....this is simply on another level. Watching everything the show has given you; Walt's path into darkness, his undying love for those he still cares about...it is just too much for me during this scene. It makes me sob like a little baby every time I reach it in my re-watches of the show. I have never cried so hard as I do when this scene hits me. It may make me seem like a coward, but the writing, acting, and implications of this scene hit harder than any cinema I have ever seen. This....this shows how incredible the show is. There really is naught that can match this level of emotion and writing.
It's not cowardly to feel emotions :)
it isnt cowardly, not in any sense of the word. instead, id wager its rather stoic to cry for other people. human empathy is far more admirable than a lack of such, dont you think? who cares if a minority of people think its cowardly, most others on this planet clearly know how good it is to have such emotions within you. cheers mate im glad you enjoy this show as much as i do, it truly is an emotional rollercoaster
I bet BCS's ending will hit even harder.
@@spimbles its what makes shows like this so amazing
You should try to get out more. It’s a TV story. Good lord.
I keep coming back to this scene. The shear emotion portrayed by Bryan Cranston and Anna Gunn. Man, Walt trying to hold back tears while trying to sound like the worst man you could possibly imagine to save his family from the consequences of his actions.. tears me up each time I watch.
2:38 "Walt...... Where's.... Hank?"
....
...
"I won."
This is the moment Skylar let that sink in.
The reaction of Walt when Skyler said: "just come home" is enough to make a grown man cry 🥺
