I live in Bridgend and I could have saved you the trip down. It is as you found out locked up tight and the group that own it does open it twice a year over the summer and brings with them some of the paintings and artefacts from inside as there is nothing inside just empty rooms. When I visited the site around 3 years ago half of the building was sealed off because there were bats which apparently are protected so from the showers down sealed off. The site was destroyed except for Hut 9 in the 80's to build houses on which to this day have been refused There isnt much remaining of WW2 history in Bridgend except for the South Wales Police Headquaters main building which was part of the Ammunition factory the factory was huge there are some bunkers remaining called the Brackla 8x but these are locked up tight as well.
I remember going there years ago when it was intact, it was easy to gain access, saw all the murals on the walls, it should never have been destroyed, it is part of our history, money talks and it was obviously worth more for development 😔
Please like others have said for the love of God, dont go tresspassing to get your 'scoop' for youtube. This place is well maintained by an amazing group of volunteers who put on open days to correctly inform of the history of the area and much more. Often loads more artefacts and even people dressed in the period and real clothing. Its a fascinating place and visit. Take the time to do that instead. There's already so much fight going on to save the place let alone being broadcast as some 'cool' rundown abandoned place for people to get their fix of tresspassing.
If you want to look inside go along to one of the open days they have throughout the year.while your there chuck a few quid in to help with the preservation
If you would like to visit inside join one of the open days, the fencing and locks are due to vandals destroying the hut please please dont go in without permission as the volunteers are finding it hard enough to keep funding up for the place, also there is a bat in the area that the germans escaped so no one can go in that area, im not saying dont explore but you can get much more information and spend as long as you like there on an open day
I lived near there during the mid 80's and you could wander all over the area it was great to see the history, I guess its all fenced in and only opens occasionally.
I wouldn't go climbing in matey, the site is not abandoned, just closed. The site management have made the owners aware of this video and will probably now take further steps to secure the site. Best bet is to go on an open day when they have all the gear out bud.
It used to be a great place to explore Matt but most of it has long gone, it was a Prisoner of War Camp, they did escape for a short time. Bridgend had one of the biggest bomb factories in the UK, it is now the main industrial estate and police HQ. There were lots of old War buildings to exlpore years ago but most have been sold to developers and are now housing estates 😔
Great bit of history Matt by the look of the huts we looked after them better than they did our captured troops but if they was huts built for our own workers I suppose they were better built but I bet still a dreary place be nice to know how many of the German staff went to trial and what happened to them and how high in rank they were . Look forward to the next explore stay safe and well 👌
I used to go blackberry picking down here & we came across the exit of the tunnel they dugout on the 2nd year, it’s basically just got a board across it, not been down there in years now so not sure if it’s more hidden or secured..
Mate this is bizarre I got mates in Bridgend whose parents are old and they don't even know about this. Well done on the history lesson bloody well done mate.
The people who look after Island Farm are a great bunch, all volunteers who work their asses off to keep that place going. Nobody is going to appreciate you climbing that fence using ladders and trespassing - if you want to visit just get in touch with them via their Facebook page.
the houses / industrial estate built in pencoed on land that also had pow camps. inderground links to island farm/ bridgend industrial estate/ police headquarters / under tesco waterton estate
Have just watched the video the man who told you broke in and trespassed on the land needs to watch this and then repeat the claims thousands of people watched them walk around the gate, a gate you could have got a small car round no breaking in at all. Love you Videos Matt
Interesting visit what a unique place.Sadly I’ve seen the local news the heritage destroyers are planning to build 800 houses around the site.Thankfully hut 9 has been preserved otherwise this would be destroyed as well.
For anyone that wants to get in. There is a group that looks after the place. Twice a year ish, they do open days where they will tell you anything you want about it. And loads you never thought of. Don't be a dick and go along with everyone else. Don't be trashing the place. If this lad had done his research correctly he'd have mentioned it.
The brick building used to be where the preservation lot used to run things from, but the landowner has turfed them out. Not exactly sure what the long turn is, but the council has been trying to build there for ages. got a feeling it won't be there for much longer. Did you get a look at the Magazines/Bunkers in Brackla? There's not much to look at, but I'v not visited for a while. last I saw they were trying to get it all fenced, to stop the kids playing there.
Why don’t you go when they have an open day. Very educational and good fun. Much more informative than just lurking. Also not sure why the police would be in trouble for telling you where it is? It’s signposted 🤣
The preservation group are trying to buy the building to keep it for the future rather than it be destroyed for a cookie cutter housing estate. There's a Facebook group for them and a Gofundme to raise the funds needed. Do your part and pop a few quid their way so our WWII heritage can be looked after.
id really wait until an open day rather than trying to force your way in, not only is it a historical site thats difficult to safeguard as is, the more important thing is that its also an endangered bat colony on one side of the hut, that colony of bats is the only reason the hut still stands and I would really not reccomend disturbing it.
I love it when you do vids like this? Very cool part of all of our histories? Can only imagine the feeling inside of there? Hopefully some were able to be rehabilitated and decided to stay in England? But the ones that were the higher ups were probably executed for there War Crimes? Sadly! Horrible time for everyone? It should be turned into a Museum
Love the fact that everything you film you learn all the history I love to watch and learn thanks 😊

@@TheJumpmaster5 Hi, Yeh i found it last night & joined thank you

This isn’t abandoned it’s just closed. Please go along to one of the open days to see it. It’s well looked after, don’t break in!
They do open days which are great and you get to see inside 🙂
Used to be a good dirt bike track around that POW camp when we were kids when it was more abandoned. Probably best they preserve it now!

The site was close and we dont break in so all we could do is look through the fence. It would be interesting to go on an open day for sure.
@@TheSecretVault I went to an open day there awhile back, it was honestly a fantastic experience, especially with the reenactors there.
We have a few old PoW camps (or what was) in Dorset. One was located at Carey Camp in Wareham.
Certainly is well secured. Makes it more intriguing!
👍👍👍👊😎

Love the vids 👍

Always interesting and full of facts, that’s why your one of the best explorers.

Matt, that was a brilliant introduction. I loved watching this.

Yeah some people are a bit retarded... Broke in FFS.. lol
Those fences used to keep people in.
Now they are used to keep people out.
That was interesting thanks from Oz.
Shame you couldn't get in, good to see it hasn't got trashed and some effort is being made to preserve it at least. Worth a revisit maybe :D
A lot of effort goes into preserving it. Open days are held twice a year
Would have loved to see inside. Hey ho! Maybe one day.
Look forward to your next explore Matt. Thanks 🤗😁🤪
Only way to see inside is to attend one of the open days!

The Preservation Group have a gofundme page to raise £20000 to buy the brick building. £14300 raised so far.
I went to Brackla ages ago, Privately owned and secured with alarms cams etc.
Great bit of history, short and sweet. Hope you manage to find a way to get in there!
Interesting Matthew Thank you
Great bit of history lots of interesting information 👍
There are times they have open days so people can learn about hut nine and the prison camp .
Sounded quite promising at the beginning and very interesting. Xx

Such a shame that they don't look after our WW2 heritage, they let some buildings go to rot

Wales was busy in that era.
Many went there after the blitz.
Short but good 👍💯
Very interesting nice one lads..
Check out 'The Welsh Great Escape' drama documentary on Channel 4 catch-up. Excellent programme about the German escape.
Most of it has been demolished and there is an open space with huge piles of rubble a bit further o where I dug up a really old and corroded bullet
You need to visit Eden Camp Malton North Yorkshire ex pow and now living museum
Awesome video 👍
1st class video to watch thank you take care kind regards from me kenneth
