    I live in Bridgend and I could have saved you the trip down.
    It is as you found out locked up tight and the group that own it does open it twice a year over the summer and brings with them some of the paintings and artefacts from inside as there is nothing inside just empty rooms.
    When I visited the site around 3 years ago half of the building was sealed off because there were bats which apparently are protected so from the showers down sealed off.
    The site was destroyed except for Hut 9 in the 80's to build houses on which to this day have been refused
    There isnt much remaining of WW2 history in Bridgend except for the South Wales Police Headquaters main building which was part of the Ammunition factory the factory was huge there are some bunkers remaining called the Brackla 8x but these are locked up tight as well.

      I remember going there years ago when it was intact, it was easy to gain access, saw all the murals on the walls, it should never have been destroyed, it is part of our history, money talks and it was obviously worth more for development 😔

    Please like others have said for the love of God, dont go tresspassing to get your 'scoop' for youtube. This place is well maintained by an amazing group of volunteers who put on open days to correctly inform of the history of the area and much more. Often loads more artefacts and even people dressed in the period and real clothing. Its a fascinating place and visit. Take the time to do that instead. There's already so much fight going on to save the place let alone being broadcast as some 'cool' rundown abandoned place for people to get their fix of tresspassing.

    If you would like to visit inside join one of the open days, the fencing and locks are due to vandals destroying the hut please please dont go in without permission as the volunteers are finding it hard enough to keep funding up for the place, also there is a bat in the area that the germans escaped so no one can go in that area, im not saying dont explore but you can get much more information and spend as long as you like there on an open day

    I wouldn't go climbing in matey, the site is not abandoned, just closed. The site management have made the owners aware of this video and will probably now take further steps to secure the site. Best bet is to go on an open day when they have all the gear out bud.

    It used to be a great place to explore Matt but most of it has long gone, it was a Prisoner of War Camp, they did escape for a short time. Bridgend had one of the biggest bomb factories in the UK, it is now the main industrial estate and police HQ. There were lots of old War buildings to exlpore years ago but most have been sold to developers and are now housing estates 😔

    Great bit of history Matt by the look of the huts we looked after them better than they did our captured troops but if they was huts built for our own workers I suppose they were better built but I bet still a dreary place be nice to know how many of the German staff went to trial and what happened to them and how high in rank they were . Look forward to the next explore stay safe and well 👌

    The brick building used to be where the preservation lot used to run things from, but the landowner has turfed them out. Not exactly sure what the long turn is, but the council has been trying to build there for ages. got a feeling it won't be there for much longer.
    Did you get a look at the Magazines/Bunkers in Brackla? There's not much to look at, but I'v not visited for a while. last I saw they were trying to get it all fenced, to stop the kids playing there.

    • @SairWithTheHair
      @SairWithTheHair 2 года назад +2

      The preservation group are trying to buy the building to keep it for the future rather than it be destroyed for a cookie cutter housing estate. There's a Facebook group for them and a Gofundme to raise the funds needed. Do your part and pop a few quid their way so our WWII heritage can be looked after.

    id really wait until an open day rather than trying to force your way in, not only is it a historical site thats difficult to safeguard as is, the more important thing is that its also an endangered bat colony on one side of the hut, that colony of bats is the only reason the hut still stands and I would really not reccomend disturbing it.
