Hitler did kinda care about colonization. It just wasn't on the priority list. When Spain was in talks to join the Axis, Franco wanted Cameroon as part of their deal to join, but Hitler got pissy about that and shut down talks with Spain soon after
@@sockguy1122 Fair enough, but I think it gives a fuller picture on the Third Reich's colonial plans because it shows that, at least Hitler and the colonial society you showed, had an interest in restoring their pre-WW1 colonial empire. I think the main reason they didn't support colonial attempts is just because they knew they needed to win the war first before that could ever happen and every resource needed to be focused on that instead
Given one particular quote from mustache man on France's relation with the inhabitants of their african colonies, I think the nazi high command wasn't really into regaining colonies in africa, what they really wanted was eastern europe all along
Mr sock i think you forget to mention Cameroon, one of the reason Spain didn't joined the Axis was that they demanded Cameroon and the mustache man felt pissed so the plan never got to motion.
Nazi Germany did have colonial ambitions. It’s just that these colonies were in Eastern Europe, not Africa. And word of advice: don't romanticize genocidal maniacs.
Currently, there doesn’t seem to be any comprehensive evidence proving that the RKB had any control over New Swabia. However, it's worth noting that the so-called "New Swabia flag" on Wikipedia is actually the flag of the RKB.
It's not that they weren't interested it's just the situation in Europe was just way more important. There were desires to reclaim the African colonies from the Imperial Era at the very least. If they had won WW2 in Europe they might've went out to establish colonies eventually but we don't really know what they wanted outside what was mentioned in this video lol.
Yeah the Third Reich never really had massive ambitions for restoring its former colonial empire in Africa. The main focus was establishing a new one to the east. If I can recall properly I remember seeing a video explaining the Nazis’ aims in Africa. According to said video Hitler never really showed much of an interest for Africa except for Cameroon. He once said: “I could care less about our former African colonies. All I want is our Cameroon back.” This could explain why he got pretty pissed when one of Franco’s demands for joining the war on the side of the Axis was control over Cameroon.
@@sockguy1122 I’m thinking possibly one of two reasons. The first and least likely one is the fact that Germany supported several African independence movements in West Africa during WWII in TNO. Hence why not all of West Africa is under Free French control. I say it’s not that likely because of the fact that the Nazis have never been famous for upholding promises. The second and most likely one is probably the German economy collapsing in the 50s in TNO. Just a short time after the colonisation of Central Africa and the invasion of Portugal’s African colonies, leading to the formation of the Iberian Union the German economy collapsed. This would most likely make it impossible to pursue any further military expeditions into West Africa. Not to mention the ensuing West Russian War.
As a German nationalist, the colony dream is now over... We would almost have to colonize the Ruhr area first... Maybe if our homeland became more stable, Namiba would be a distant dream... & perhaps even more unlikely Togoland.
No, just don't, it's not worth it, do not try to contact those "people" ever again. I swear, as a brit the worst thing we could have done was to start the colonisation in there
@@guycrew3973 Well, at the end of the day, colonizing Africa was a project to brag about. The extra ports were probably the only thing that made them profitable... Except for the resources of the Congo, but that's a shitshow these days that no normal person would dare into it. Why do I mention Namiba? Because this is the only former colony with a sizable German population left.

I thought about that too, but since this video's topic is mainly about the Third Reich's colonial plans, I didn’t include Spain.
I’m sorry Spain 😔

Yes, that's right. For Germany, *Lebensraum* in Eastern Europe was far more important than colonies in Africa.

Ironically, in TNO, Germany doesn't control Cameroon and Togo.
I wonder if they forgot or had other reasons for leaving them out.

when Germany decided to return to Africa,
they didn’t plan to colonize Cameroon and Togo.
