What most likely happened was either Pande saw them or the other way around and they thought they had hide like any normal angler but forgot that it tracks until it kills you or you hide in a locker and die or win the mini game
making this comment before i watch the whole way through (if i dont type this now ill forget), one reason why some spots were pande safe for some people but not for others could be because you do have a bit of player clipping in pressure. you can push people a teeny tiny bit! so a bunch of people in a corner could push some people out somewhat.
you don't even look away, if you just crouch its a pss. the room layout where it goes downstairs instead is also a pss if you crouch right next to the last stair and then look down

Originally we were typing numbers in chat for the leaders to make sure everyone was in a safe spot or near a locker. As time went on however, we stopped doing it until towards the end.

not true, pande goes off the player torso, because it's the easiest and best way devs can work with raycasting and just generally tracking
