Thankyou, very informative. I live in Japan, of European ethnicity. My white cells, diagnosed about a month ago, very low, anemia 10, platelets normal, but I have had bruising and weakness.
I was sent to a hematologist who said i am too old for any treatment, at 66years. I have no other disease and thought I was quite well, but get terribly weak before meals. Got a second opinion, no new testing done. New hematologist agreed more or less with MDS-AML Leukemia but his prognosis was much more positive because of my functional age: chemo and transplant and possible access to an international donor bank. I feel the doctors here unknowledgable and uncaring and do not want to get involved with the long term, complicated care of a foreigner. We have been brushed off from 3 places. I am insured in Japan but not my home country England. I don’t know if Uk NHS is free or what and the logistics of getting over there and long term stay is difficult, tho i have people who care, they are themselves elderly with health troubles.
If I could get proper treatment i feel i could do well. Could you please suggest anything?? I think the USA is the best place but what sort of costs? Thankyou.

Dear Veronica, I know there are transplant centers in Japan, as well as in UK. Several of them. Germany and US are known for being the places to go for the people from countries without transplant centers. But I have no idea how it would work with the insurances, as transplantation is a very expensive procedure.

I’m guessing you go get tested.
Like for me I’m willing to donate for my brothers sickle cell but the only problem is that I don’t know where to go get tested at
