CS1 definitely not dead. I also think life is too short to be hung up on the potential of something rather than enjoy a different thing that brings you what you are looking for now.
CS2 was released about 1.5 years too early. Once it has full mod support and they figure out the simulation issues, CS2 will quickly be known as the best city builder.
So excited for this new series, Jeremy. As a viewer, who was following a *lot* of City Skylines players, when suddenly everyone left to do CS2, and everyone was basically building the same city the same ways, I stopped watching almost everyone. But here you are, proving in just this short video, how unique you can make a place in CS1. With just a handful of buildings and some landscaping, you've already evoked Japan. I'm thrilled to have you back, doing something you actually enjoy, that's also fun to watch. I hope you have huge success with this video.
Pretty good example! Beautiful and realistic Japanese landscape especially coast side, fences surrounding buildings, and so on. I love this town and look forward to the next episode!
Honestly you, Pres and Citywokcitywall were my favourite cs1 creators cause of the amount of details I too love just spending time making something look pretty even if i zoom out and theres nothing else but the essentials to keep citizens happy.
What happened to Pres? I feel like it's been over a year since he posted a new video. That while he was working on a northern Californian city, which I took a lot of inspiration from for my Californian city
100% into the idea of more CS1 content. CS1 will go down as the best city builder ever. It's has been hard for CO to replicate it's success and will continue to be hard. The CS1 community is the best.
A lot of people stopped their CS 1 series because of dropping view counts, but I think now that the hype has faded from CS 2 people still want to see videos that are only possible in CS 1.
Seeing your profile for the first time, omg i've never saw someone adding so much detail to the builds, and the tools you use to modify all the stuff are just genius! Keep it up, you're awesome!
So happy to see all the content creators going back to CS1. Every single city of CS2 looks pretty much the same to me so I've not cared to watch any of the city builds except when it initially came out and was the shiny new toy. In time CS2 could be great, but for now the creativity provided by CS1 is absolutely unmatched.
Reminder that the Kanto region in Pokemon is an actual region in Japan: The Kanto Plains. Instead of going for the Pokemon route, it might be best to instead take inspiration from the real location as well as other bits from around the prefecture and nearby; A nice way to spice up your previous experience in Cities Skylines 1 if you ask me. That aside, it's good to see you back on the original game, though I'd suggest slowing down your workload right now seeing as you have multiple other projects in the pipeline that risks you spreading yourself too thin. Good luck with this whole project: Hope you get back into the speed of things with this game. (And, of course, let's hope this project doesn't suffer the same fate as the others.)
I really hope you lean fully into the idea of "what if realistic Pokemon" - it's such a cool idea for a series to recreate the region with the routes and everything but done in a very realistic style
the ironic part: algorithm just suggested your video on the frontpage of my YT. i ve never seen your content before. Already love it. Keep it up! Just followed
When I saw the title, I expected you were making the real world Kanto region and thought, "Oh cool, Japanese architecture." Then you said it was based on the Pokemon Kanto region and I said out loud, "Oh hell yes"
as a barely a game developer and also new to 3D sculpting stuff, the game does inspire me alot but then again, after you select that parking road those nods appear gave me a terrifies doom. but anyway this project you create that based on real place is amazing though it took more than it look but i admire how you put hardwork into this, i would love await to see more of yours contents.
This will be a fantastic city. Definitely keep it up! All of the towns have landmarks, so it would be really cool if you made sure to put those in. Pallet Town needs Oak's Lab, for instance. A windmill and a larger house on a hill would get that easily. Also, all of the towns in the Pokemon franchise are based on real-world cities. Pallet Town is based on the creator's hometown of Machida. That's for your info if you need more references. But I love these kinds of builds. I am a fan of your Foundation city.
Join the discord! Definitely always open to input. I had read about the Machida influence but i found that it had been quite swallowed up by Tokyo since the creator's childhood, so I looked for another place that was more like how he describes Machida.
Also…I would love to see one of the better skilled content creators to create an African city from any of the many regions/countries. That’ll be pretty dope.
@@JeremyThunder idk what the masses will want, but you for sure have a long time subscriber here begging for more CS1 content. I’ve even been watching Fluxtrance and Strict Toaster old stuff. If you or another skilled creator did Africa, I’d be hooked.

Good to see you back mate! You where one of my biggest inspirations! love the vibe already! The great thing about returning to CS1 is that CO won't update the game and break your saves!
Now I'll admit, Japan is the place I'd least expect you to cover. Fuck yeah!!!! Japanese cities have always looked amazing in this game due to the Japanese playerbase making some great assets. So I think you might make something pretty cool lookin'
Given that trying to find some consistent CS1 series nowadays is hard and rare, this video and consequently this series was a sweet sweet breath of fresh air. Keep making this series, the city itself has a veeeeery nice vibe to it and i love it!
I’m so glad to see you back on Csk 1 ! Like, I love your content since you put so much effort into details ! Keep it like that, it’s amazing for sure !
As someone who played a lot of Pokemon as a child and find Japanese cities very interesting, I am very much here for this! Really got that small town vibe of Pallet already in this first video.
So funny that you started a Japan inspired CS1 playthrough as I had been looking on youtube for someone doing on in your style for quite a while. PS: As long as CS2 is not in the same level of options and mods as CS1 it will have a place in youtube!
I love the idea of basing this off of a pokemon region. I am so glad I found this series right at the beginning of it. I really hope you continue with it because this is amazing.
I used to watch Neptune City religiously, so I'm super glad you're back doing content like this. I love the deep detail stuff you can do with CS1 and how in the weeds you get with detailing.
First off, Thank you. CS1 has been polished by modders for almost ten years. Of course CS2 is not anywhere as robust as CS1. But I have been a little down that so many of my favorite virtual city modelers have been stymied in their creative pursuits by the feeling that they have to build in CS2 in order to be relevant on RUclips. The city modeling is what is most enjoyable, not the program, so please use the medium that you feel most comfortable with to create without feeling weird about doing it. Second, would it help to consider that the Pokemon universe you are attempting to re-live is not an accurate representation of Japan to begin with? For that matter, Scooby-Doo is not an accurate representation of the US, either. But I find great pleasure in creating in a style of media that makes me happy, which is why I appreciated your Scylla Rep-I’m back to playing Tropico 4 again. Don’t just apologize for using “old technology.” Embrace it. Celebrate it. CS1 is still a remarkably fantastic program, one that modders could keep improving if they just simply chose to do it. I am considering this new series of yours to be the good news I got today.
For years I have searched for someone skilled who builds a contemporary (no cyberpunk futuristic) Japanese city in Cities Skylines with commentary. And it seems you fullfill this role. I know it is an old video, but I've only found this video now. I am looking forward to follow this project.
Been waiting so patiently for the CS2 hype to die down and my favorite creators to return to CS1. The game is definitely not dead and still has an incredible following. Very happy to see you back here and always happy to see CS ❤
I’m so excited for this, I’ve really missed cs1 content especially yours, all your projects have so much character and I’m excited to see where this goes! Glad you are back with CS1. I’m on a Mac so I still play CS1 and I enjoy watching video content of CS1. Akruas is still with his cities, Few Candy came back, and Overcharged Egg is still going with his cities, too. Looking forward to the progression of Kanto.
Was interesting hearing you talk about how you have not many regions left to build. I have yet to see many Australian themed cities being built could have some potential for the next series?
The thing is about CS fans and youtubers is that they're probably the mildest bunch of people to congregate around a game you could ask for, maybe even to a fault, and they gave it over 3 months to start complaining. And Paradox/Collosal Order still got massively butthurt from receiving criticism.
Absolutely. As someone who's had to go through the launch of Payday 3 (funnily enough, a game that came out around the same time as CS2 with very similar issues), I was genuinely shocked by how CO responded to the criticism. Look, I am done defending Payday 3 until it's in a state where its genuine potential has been fully realised, but when you look at how Starbreeze handled that mess with how CO handled this... Again, far from perfect, but it's night and day, and I'm shocked that CO thought it would be a good idea to respond to legitimate criticism from one of the most mild and polite gaming communities out there in the way that they did. I don't use this word much, but it's actually kind of pathetic.
I love this concept!! And there’s nothing to be embarrassed about, in fact I hope you lean into the Pokemon setting for inspiration (e.g. an aquatics center in cerulean city instead of the gym)
