Refugee Day 2023

On June 22nd, 2023, the Sir Zelman Cowen Centre partnered with HOST International Ltd to celebrate the #WorldRefugeeDay.
Each year, the world celebrates World Refugee Day, the international day to honour people who have been forced to flee their home countries, and to raise awareness of refugees' rights, needs, and how to foster inclusivity and understanding while also addressing the needs of refugees.
This year's #RefugeeDay theme has been "Finding Freedom," a sentiment shared by many refugees around the world. We were honoured to hear from UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency Deputy Regional Representative, Nai Jit Lam about the challenges and what finding freedom means for refugees. Mr. Lam shared UNHCR’s commitment to finding freedom for refugees and displaced individuals and emphasised that having access to services and support can ensure that the refugees do not have to suffer the pain of being separated from their families.
