I got the solid when to many (150) for the size of font. changed to 100 worked. so fiddle with it. I too got the color problem. did as you did and reset it and it worked. maybe has to do with amount of gradual color change. will mess with it (because this is so much fun!) and try extreme color variants. Love your videos.

Thanks for another great video. The problem I see with this method is the amount of nodes it produces. If you join the resultant into a single path and simplify it once, the number of nodes is more manageable for an old laptop like mine. You will lose the gradient effect, but you can do it manually afterwards. Sorry for the mistakes 👍
Thanks, and I totally agree. I almost titled this video a "trick" or a "hack" because I think the method pushes to the limit of some computers and laptops capabilities (mine included). Also, why is it buried under a quirky break apart-combine step. I still like it as an experimental procedure and at least when I'm not screen-recording at the same time, I can generate good 3D Text quickly.
I think the order you select the objects in can effect the results of the interpolation not just the Z order. Thank You for posting and Merry Christmas 2021!
Nice one Rick. How many times have I tried to make a path-'intersection' or path or path-'difference' without breaking the text apart and then unionising it all or combining it all together. I'm trying to interpolate text, I did exactly how you taught it, but it's popping up a message that says "At least two paths need to be selected". Even tough I am selecting both paths (texts converted to path and combined). I have no clue why that's happening :( Does anyone know how to solve it?
How would you apply this to a shape? I'm trying to combine your water color state map to text and make it 3D.. I can do the text, and I can get a basic shape to go 3D with interpolate, but I can't seem to get the map of Alaska to co operate... I get a dialog box saying that additional info was added and my results may not come out right.. But I get no results at all.. My map of alaska was done just like in the water color video, and saved as a template..... I closed inkscape, and re started it.. could it be I need to reset to default??.....

I tried but the closest I got was by having 3 layers selected as per your vid and colouring each differently then carrying out interpolate style, that's when things got funky..."just like the 60's all over again" any ideas or is this covered in another vid? Haha! Things can get pretty funky pretty quick. I'm experimenting with a different method to make 3D text and I'll try to get multiple colors going. You're right- the method in this video doesn't lend itself to easy colors. I'll play around with it!

But this may indicate the result is not as expected", I have a message like this, it can't be interpolated, what's the solution? , my version of Inkscape is 1.2.2, this appears when I want to make a 3D text effect, bro. If you want to do it, you have to ungroup it first, bro, so we interpolate it by letter, but if it's like that, I think over time, if you want it to be like the direct video, you don't need to ungroup it. One thing I've noticed when interpolate txt on a curved path, interpolation method should be 1 I have noticed it just after my 3rd rewatch on the video :) otherwise txt become broken

The newer versions of interpolate don't work at 0. You have to set it to 1.0

Instead of selecting each character after Object to Path, can’t you just ungroup and then select all by dragging a rectangle around it?

using version 1.3.2 I am unable to get letter separation, using a double click. Is this a version problem?
