I read The Woman in the Dunes for the first time too this year and I have to say the film adaptation is absolutely fantastic. The book and the film are equally as good as each other. The film is free on RUclips, which isn’t the most ideal viewing experience but it’s a good thing to know about!!

i feel bad when the only novel of JD Salinger people've read is catcher -- especially if you read it the first time as an adult. as a young teen that book hits hard but as you become an adult you resonate with it less and less -- like it should be more clear that catcher's essentially YA and a departure from what JD normally wrote. if it were up to me i'd say people should read basically any of his other novels first if they're reading him as an adult.
