  • The Royal Air Force Red Arrows performance over the Hudson River right next to the Verrazano Bridge in Staten Island and New York City. June 25th, 2008. Due to the usual and extremely busy airspace in the Class B Airspace area of NY the team were performing their low show (roll show in RAF terms) to keep their safe distances from the above traffic of airlines. But all in all it was a very impressive show!! Wish the team would be at more U.S. shows in the near future.

    As a proud Brit 🇬🇧 I am justifyingly proud of the Red Arrows. However similar display teams such as the Blue Angels, Thunderbirds and Snowgeese all bring something different to the audiences. Blue Angels and Thunderbirds have huge powerful machines. For relatively close up audience experiences I would say the RedArrows and Snowgeese might be a little easier on the ears, but respect to all.

      As an RAF Air Traffic Controller I have to say, I've seen that move at 14:03 many times, from below, given that ATC is normally underneath the display. It's all a matter of perspective. The aircraft don't really fly head to head, there is a lateral offset that is designed to be difficult to see from the crowd position, making it look very tight and impressive. No doubt they are highly skilled but not everything is as it appears.

    Ik they are British and awesome but what was the wooing about

    • @amber1862
      @amber1862 6 лет назад +2

      Emily Horway That's the American mating call. Americans of both sexes often compete for mating chances by excitedly wooing the loudest, often pumping their upper limbs in to the sky with their fists clenched (this heavily depends on nearby competition and adrenaline levels). Female Americans often finish their mating call by repeatedly hitting their open hands together making a tapping sound, while the males often indicate the end of their call with a hearty 'arrll riiite...yeeaahh woooooOOOO'. This behaviour is often copied by nearby Americans. This repeats incessantly for many hours, often for no logical reason. Little stimulation is required for the mating call to both start and maintain with unfathomable duration.
