I’m lucky enough to live in the UK and I’ve seen our Red Arrows more times than I can remember. But even I gasped at 8:07. That cloud was in exactly the right place at the right time. Well done Reds. Glad our friends across the pond enjoy watching them as much as us.
The chap on the tannoy will be RED10. My bro was RED10 for four years. I was lucky enough to sit in on a debrief. Now, I live quite close to their base and from Easter on see them most days. Practice practice practice. Sometimes, they're so close you can smell the av-gas exhaust. ( local gardeners who live right by the base have complained that the fall-out was killing their flowers and veg )
It’s amazing to hear the gasps and sounds of amazement from the crowd. The spectators at British aircraft are always very quiet but it’s so awesome to hear that our team is genuinely impressing the American spectators. Thank you for being such amazing hosts!
Blue Angels fly tight formations and maneuvers without G-Suit and oxygen mask....BTW I like both Red Arrows which visited Karachi in Oct,2017 and Blue Angels
@Bobby Brady RAF saved Britain from invasion therefore allowing it become a platform for the invasion of Europe and later in the war helped in equal and in fact more than equal measure to destroy the German peoples will to fight and ability to produce and manufacture . it was a significant factor that allows statements like "saved the free world" to be made ,strictly accurate or not !
@Bobby Brady Yes. A bit of a sweeping statement to make, particularly on what could be American Territory. However, The Battle of Britain was a pivotal moment in WW2 and I think that is a better tribute to the Royal Air Force. Of course not just British pilots took part. Aviators from around the world joined the battle. Including Americans.
No matter how many times I have seen The Mighty Reds perform (be it live or on video), they never fail to make my gritty eye syndrome go into overdrive. Makes me so proud to be British
Nice to see the Red Arrows display their skills to the Americans on a cloudy day, full immersion on how we get to see them at home. Weather comments aside, the RAs never fail to give us a good show- no matter what.
I've seen the red arrows do there thing many times over the years now and I'm filled with pride every single time!! God bless those boys!! Unbelievably skilled!! X
I have seen the Red Arrows so many times in the UK. They fly in my local sea side bay twice a year, every year (weather permitting!) I have lived in the US twice, it makes me so very proud to be British as I watch these guys 'fly the flag' in the US.
I remember going to Bournmouth once, years ago, just for a day out. We parked the car in a road not far from the beach, when suddenly we heard this enormous noise, looked up & there were the red arrows, flying in formation, right down the road. To say it was overwhelming would be an understatement. We didn't know they were going to be there. They are fabulous.
Never in the field of human conflict has so much been owed by so many to so few, Per Ardua Ad Astra. God bless those who gave all so we can live free! 🇬🇧
Yes, many apply, but few get to be a Red. And these are elite pilots, many of them pilot trainers themselves and all of them serving RAF pilots. But it takes something indefinable to make the grade. They really are 'the best of the best'. And then they serve with the Reds for 3 years then return to active duty. Of course, Red 1 is always a previously serving Red, who returns as 'the Boss' for a 3 year period. Red 10 is a little different - and I think Mike Ling has to be one of the longest-serving! I believe he now flies with The Blades (another British formation team based in Yorkshire - yay!), who fly 'Extras' - which can't perform the high speed manoeuvres at which the Reds excel, but they certainly perform some aerobatics which are ... familiar! As their commentator never tired of telling us - the pilots are all ex Red Arrows (although I believe one of them wasn't at one point!).
I live in East Yorkshire, UK. I was walking in to town a few days ago and The Red Arrows flew right over me, they were quite low too. It was very exciting. As someone else commented, it made me feel proud to be British.
The best display team in the world,I’m so lucky to have these guys on my doorstep, never get board of watching them, that guys reaction holy s*#t may me chuckle
You live in Lincolnshire, then!!! Lucky you! Ever get to see the BBMF??? So jealous of thise who can watch the Reds and/or the Spitfires/Hurricanes/Dakota amd our beloved Lancaster (PA474) from their back gardens!!!!
I think the statement at 6.08 summed the Red Arrows up perfectly. As a proud Brit I understandibly feel they are the best, but let's face it, all the aerobatic teams are pure skill and ability. They just perform different things in different ways. They give us the best of all options, and for that I thank them.
That is the best statement yet amongst all of them. I have seen teams since the 1970;s, from the German Starfighters right up to 2019 displays. All of the national teams are superb, and like you say, all slightly different. We can sometimes get a little familiar with the Reds, seeing them so often, but see them on their own or somewhere like RIAT in conjunction with 3 or more other teams and you see the different styles that teams put on. My favourites along with the Reds would be the Swiss team with their F-5's, and the South Korean team in theit T-50's. The T=Birds are very professional in their F-16's, but not exciting, I do remember seeing them way back when they toured Europe flying their F-4's, that was more interesting as the F-4 was quite a handful to fly in an aerobatic team. Like you say, they are all different in their own way, whether a two ship or ten ship formation, and that's good.
I live 3 miles away from raf Scampton where the reds are based they tend to practise 3 times a week and they fly over my house regularly. Despite living in Lincoln all my life and seeing the reds perform on a daily basis I get awe struck every time I see them. They really are incredible remember once when they flew so low over my house I remember being able to see the Heads up display on the aircraft. Was incredible to see
The first time I saw them was in the mid to late 60s at RAF Valley. I saw them several more times at the Woodford Air Show in the 70s when they were flying the Folland Gnat. One of the things they did then, which they can't do any more at the beginning of the display, just after the announcement, was while the crowd were looking forward, they came from behind and scared the living daylights out of everyone.
As a brit these guys are one of the things that make me proud. I've watched them all my life and I'm as excited as the first time every time I see them. It's lovely watching how much you Americans are enjoying the tour. I would one day like to come and see the blue angels.
I live not far from where they are based and see the trials in the sky sometimes on my birthday last year i was walking round a garden center when i heard the noise building up only to see the Red Arrows fly past... I will take it as my Birthday fly past.... thanks Lads xxx
So proud to watch our very own Red Arrows wow'ing the US audience, I agree with one of the comments below that the way that the team show all of their formation work and how precise it is in every element, is really what differentiates the Red Arrows from other large formation teams. Having had the pleasure of seeing the Blue Angels, I can say without reservation, they are fantastic at what they do and have great impact as they blast across the display area. Since they do most of the formation changes away from the display window, the down side is there is always a little delay in waiting for the next pass etc. All the technically difficult multi-formation work the red arrows have to do, is performed in full view of the crowd and all the expert technical critics, which is why everything they do has to have continuity but also be both balletic and "nuero surgically" precise. In this display I particularly loved the way the full formation climbed vertically disappeard at the top of the climb and moments later burst out of the cloud, that was epic and you could hear the crowd appreciate the drama of of it. (I think its at 8mins in).
Great filming Jarrod especially on the vertical break....could so easily of lost them up there. It looked like the were pulling the cloud down with them like a thread! I'm proud of our mighty Reds!
Hmm, They practice from October to May in Cyprus. You can sit on the beech and watch them over a dozen times a week. You'll lose the free airshow when the crime of closing Scampton occurs next year. Great to see Americans enjoying the Red Arrows, just as it would be great to see Brits enjoying the Blue Angels. Arguments about who is better are - unless the people involved are stunt pilots and have the expertise to judge - are bloody pointless.
Ditto! As a Brit there is nothing I love more than hearing a Yank shout " Holy Shit!" - it was awesome and I rewound it about 3 times and it still amuses me everytime - God bless America!

I too got to see them practice out of scampton as a kid every year but that vertical break is possibly the best manoeuvre I’ve seen them pull off.
8:18 "Holy crap!"
Fantastic!
That vertical break through the clouds was nothing short of a master piece.

Good show, I'm irish american. But the Brits at least fly all their planes at once, no 4 ship formation off the bat.

Nice one Russell!
The surprise calls from the crowd reacting to the display, says it all. The best display team in the world.

I have seen The Reds countless times over the years, here in the UK, but that was one of the coolest things ever! \m/ (:o)

Great to see Americans enjoying the Red Arrows, just as it would be great to see Brits enjoying the Blue Angels. Arguments about who is better are - unless the people involved are stunt pilots and have the expertise to judge - are bloody pointless.
sen them fly over my head at the great north run. amazing
Thunderbirds and red arrows are the world’s best at what they do. They flew together a while back.
6.07 and 8.18.. God bless America, it's not often I feel proud to be British.. lol
“Holy shit” had to rewatch that a few times
Ditto! As a Brit there is nothing I love more than hearing a Yank shout " Holy Shit!" - it was awesome and I rewound it about 3 times and it still amuses me everytime - God bless America!
ladies and gentlemen due to new airshow regs you'll see them abroad more than in uk now
They can kill themselves in other countries other than ours
RED

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU

British
The freedom loving Anglo-sphere. Russia tries to get in on it, as do the French...
Excellent video, Thank you!!
I agree with others that cloud break was very impressive
Some of those passes were closer than my morning shave with Gillette razor blades!
Gillette?
Thought they were anti-men?
Bin them. Wilkinson Blades, pal.
Must be exciting in the US, home of your own aviation industry.
