Melina 100% needed all her optional cutscenes at sights of grace to automatically happen as I miss them half the time. She should also appear whenever you want to level up as at the moment she gets absolutely no screen time and I forget she exists.
I was so cheesed when I took a portal to the capital, unlocked a grace there, and she appeared to say "K thnx bye" I was 70hr dead and had 1 interaction with her outside of her mandatory interactions.
She is enpowered in the frenzied ending, with both eyes openig. I saw a theory thats because she has a seal in the eye 'the three claws' that closes her eyes and they are gonne in the end cinematic. Meaning that, after the release of the lord of chaos, she gets full powered to counter you.
@@stefanolozardo9711 What's kinda terrifying is that a lot of item descriptions mention a Dusk/Gloam eyed queen that lead the Godskins and controlled destined death before she was defeated by Malekith who then sealed away destined death. Deathrite birds were heavily involved with death in ancient times and resemble crows. Melina's eye mark looks like a crow's claw, and when it fades the eye underneath is dusk colored. She then promises to deliver destined death to you.
I thought that was cool as hell also!! Her storyline Is actually way interesting!! Its cool how you actually get to see that she was indeed A Hero &a pretty bad ass one @that! (before becoming too afraid of getting grafted) &of course she looses &it's nothing but a futile fight! .. Her fighting a God-being?.. I Really like how they decided to play it like that!! Makes it So So So Much More Interesting.
Her dagger is called the blade of calling. It's a faith dex dagger. It has a variant of the black knifes moveset as well. They also look similar. Black knives look like corruptions of her dagger.
they also have the exact same ash of war, just different color, and i'm unsure if the blade of calling has the same effect the fire of the black knife does.
@@Nezxmi makes sense, that effect is exclusive to the black flames of the death rune, i hadn't expected it to share it, what with it being golden flames of the erdtree and all.
I love how Melina can join the boss fight with player like she really cares about being a companion with you. I can say that happen with Millicent too.
Yeah, but I wish you could summon her for more fights than just Morgott. You can summon Millicent for multiple boss fights, but I’ve only seen Melina’s summon sign available for this fight.
Funny story I found Millicent as an invader first... Then in the church I was like "wtf. You killed me three times before I gave up, now you want my help!? ...Ok sure."
she does very little damage and has very little HP, and also gives Morgott an HP boost because of how the summoning mechanic works. Honestly, that mechanic needs rework to make it as viable as ashes.
She can actually be pretty useful on that fight. She's pretty tanky, and more than one time she was capable of distracting Morgott enough time for me to heal back to full HP.
@@Skumnut thats a stupid way to measure her usefullness. in that case, literally every phantom in the game, including all spirit ashes, no matter the upgrade level, would be ranked as useless for all end-game bosses. shes actually very useful. in addition to her damage being reasonable, her healing helps, and she distracts the boss. when i fought him she survived to the end, and saved me more than once. i'd highly suggest summoning her if your solo, or even with just 1 friend, as you can still use spirit ashes, and she is really good.
One fun thing that can be done entirely without mods is fighting Melina herself in this form. Simply have someone summon her, and then invade or join the match as a duelist phantom. The room just before the stairs on the way to Morgott is a good spot, as it's open and there's no other enemies to interrupt, but not too open that Melina would be a pushover.
i wish she was a secret boss fight for beating the game with lord of frenzied flame ending. would have been so cool to have her just be an absolute monster.

Ngl as much as I love Elden Ring, for a story with characters with distinct personalities or ambitions, the structure of little screentime from is used to fails at points. If characters had at least 25% more screentime I would've loved it, or had more unique dialouge. Melina being at sites of grace also means she can't react to my Emotes like other maidens 😔
u do know screen time with ranni is equivalent to screen time with melina and visa versa right...?! they are the same person.. two sides of one coin.... im pretty sure both are also dolls... the ranni we know is actually a doll.. her physical bodied died.. its just a vessal for her "being/soul" or whatever u wanna call it... the spirit face is her REAL face and its actually melinas face.. they even match up if u simply move melina face over the spirit face and merge both "closed" eyes... and it even synchs up with the "tattoo" to form a bigger symbol like a coin.. it has two sides and both are unified by the side/center of the coin... which would be the shared/merged eye symbolized the rannis two faces also note how both praise torrent.. crazy how two "seperate" being seem to have one and the same singler view of torrent... call me crazy butt ranni/melina just pretending to be different beings.. xD anywho.. the frenzied flamed ending... note how Melinas face ... her eyes.. are now in a sense a merged ranni face and melina face... and it u consider radagon.. who is ALSO marika... its one being that split into two then merged again as one... also hermporoite.. both male and female is considered a PERFECT BEING... also GOLD symbolized that two... and explains why melina has one gold eye as well... when they split.. each has one eye.. when they merged they get both back so to speak.. which is what u get with the frenzied flame ending... if u go freinzed flame.. u clearly dont help ranni become the new god lol and help her enenmy the two fingers.... so it makes sense why ranni.. i mean melina now wants to murder our asses.. xD

I Actually noticed the summon sign my first time fighting morgott. after i got wasted a few times i touched it to see which npc would be my ally for the fight. as soon as i saw melina i summoned her. not because i needed her persay but because she's best girl

ive seen melina use waterfowl dance before and was baffled by how many moves she has in her kit, but has like hardly any screen time, the npc's you do quest for have more screen time than her
I definitely think you're spot on with her being related to the Black Knife assasins. She has an Identical move set and when you go through the Lord of Frenzy ending of the game she vows to bring destined death to you which is what was done to Godwynn.

@@knatspray It's in a hidden room in the elevator shaft by the first snowy mountain area grace. From the bottom of the elevator room, look up and you should see a doorway above that you can enter by riding up the elevator a bit and jumping off. It's difficult to see as it's in the dark and not illuminated but otherwise not all that hard to find.
I think melina was pretty helpful on melee builds discracts the boss enough for you to get some extra hits in, that's really all it took for me to beat him. maybe not dmg that comes from her but is extra dmg caused by her. By then I only had the dog's +3 was more helpful than them XD.

@@Alucard_Dead I used a ultra Greatsword and a Greatsword for a good amount of my playthrough and started power stancing normal Greatsword around the end and haven't had issues with my attacks not hitting when they should. I'm not saying that you didn't experience issues because maybe you did, I'm just explaining my experience with the game.
melina is a support and a sub dps.. she can summon a small erdtree that continuously heal you if you're hurt, and she would actually run towards you to do it. as its her job to guide you and support you by any means necessary to become elden lord.
I wonder if there's cut content in game with respect to Melina. In Three Fingers ending, she warns Tarnished one that if he becomes Elden Lord, she will search for them and kill them. Maybe once upon a time FromSoftware had planned for Melina to be last fight in Three Fingers Ending. Her cut content will also explain why we get so less screen time from her.
fun fact: if you summon ashes, she heals those too. I use the rats cause I think they're hilarious and when I saw all 5 health bars going back up i just lost it.
I want to move and play like melina. Despite having a max level character I still dont feel that level of flair and intuitiveness from the combat I can execute. She runs really fast, she has quickstep as her dodge, like four different sword skills, and several spells. I want the game to feel like that.
I think the implementation of something like that would probably be quite difficult. Instead you have a sandbox which allows you to come as close to that fantasy as possible. Fromsoft already tried really hard to give players a lot of options on the limited potential of a controller.
Knew Melina was a summon, however didnt realize that she drops a AoE heal upon death as shown in her second fight 2:50 pay attention to the character and her hand glows. As she disappears she drops the AoE
Her using the Black Knife moveset and summoning a mini-Erdtree actually both have huge lore implications, and actually more or less settle it in my mind that she’s a secret daughter of Marika/Radagon. Marika was a Numen, and so were the Nox, and the Black Knives were Nox. She says she was born at the base of the Erdtree, she frequently talks about her mother who entrusted her with a mission, while also implying she wasn’t born from a mother (in contrast to Boc), which implies she was a product of Marika/Radagon’s bizarro, uh, “union.” My theory is that she’s the secret daughter of Marika’s who was the key to Marika’s ultimate plan to overthrow the Greater Will and permanently end the Golden Order of the Elden Ring. :)
I like the idea that Melina may be a former member of the Black Knife assassins who broke away from the group to achieve her own objective after being sent out to give the blessing to who ever she was sent to give it to, instead giving it to you in some form of Hail Mary play. Her missing eye may be a part of the BKA rights, giving their eye to would be maidens so that they can gain the power to see the guidance in order to find their targets. Instead, of offering her eye up to the maiden she was meant to feed it to, she could have eaten her own eye and taken others to awaken her own capacity to become a maiden. Her name means black, so it is at least a tangible thread connecting her to the organization. She never claims to be a maiden herself, but says that she can act as one, and still has one functional eye which sets her apart from any other maiden or maiden prospect we meet. Both those facts support the idea of it being a stolen power, which only serves to make her lack of screen time even more unfortunate, as she probably knows a hell of a lot more about what is going on than she ever says.

Spoilers: So... the likely reason that Melina has the Black Knife moveset is because she's a creation of Marika. Marika is the one who shattered the Elden Ring originally, in her attempt to slay the Elden Beast, and Ranni's creation of the Black Knives was in accordance with that effort. The Black Knives were stated to be female assassins, so it's quite possible that Marika created them as well, Melina may even have been one during those events, with that being the time her body was slain and she was reduced to only being a spirit.
Ranni killed herself to shed the cursemark after it had served its purpose, but Melina also states that her physical body is destroyed, I believe she specifically states that it's burnt. Hence why she accompanies you the way she does and needs your help to reach the tree, like other spirit summons she can't move around without assistance. Only part I'm not sure on is how she got to you in the first place... if her body was tossed into the same grave you are after the intro, or if Torrent somehow acted as her summoner for a time.

She has the black knife assassins move set as she is the black knife assassin. As in the main one who caused all the problems by slaying death on behalf of her mother. She admits to such far earlier than this if you follow the black knife quests.
Beat morgot on my 2nd try because of her. I try not to use summons but i just had to for this one cause it’s melina. Unfortunately she died right before i could deal the finishing blow

honestly would've loved melina to be summoned for multiple bosses, to make it really feel like the two of you were taking on the challenge as a duo, not as an occasional assist. Maybe only when facing Great Rune bosses, or maybe just on certain difficult bosses? IDK, I just really want to see more of her and see how she fits into the story of Elden Ring as a whole.

i feel bad that i missed possibly more cutscene than i would like to imagine due to the fact that I dont often rest at sites of graces, or the ones I do, doesn't involve Melina heck, I even had to search how to get Torrent, since I never sat down at that site of grace

The mere fact that she has an altered move set of the black knife as well as her death animation sprouting a erdtree, has me think she will be a boss in a future dlc. Maybe one related to the Frenzy Flame ending
There's definitely lore behind how her moveset is similar to the black knife assassin. There's probably a connection between her and destined death, as we can hear her end the frenzied flame ending with that phrase. Ranni's left spirit-face also looks like Melina, and we know Ranni was responsible for the black knife assassin operations. There are connections, but it's impossible to conclude anything from them alone
Well, this certainly makes more sense when you consider who Melina is. Not much is spoken about her, except that if you stray from the path and take the frenzied flame, she will promise you 'Destined Death' once its all over. And considering the weapon she uses, that might not be too farfetched.
She probably part of the Erd tree itself, just a partially that basically turn into human form after reviving the character from the beginning where that little yellow spark landed on the hand and woken the warrior
Honestly it would be cool if in the future modders would allow the player to play as other npcs. Cause most of the time besides Alexander, they can drink their flask, do their weapon skills and even dodge roll.
Most npcs are just characters fromsoftware created in the chatcater creator and stick up in the game. That's why cosplay builds are so popular. If you get those 2 daggers she is using and made a faces that looks like hers (I'm sure the sliders of her face will get datamined eventually) you would be pretty much playing as her. The only thing I see she has that is special is her special roll animation that is more of a bloodborne side step.
@@walabixha1746 Her face and moveset are both custom--as in, not replicable through normal means. There really would have to be a mod for it unless FROM just unexpectedly adds Blaidd and Melina's animations in the DLC, which I don't think they ever will because it would be too fun. >:(
honestly idk what it is about morgott but i never struggled w him, i struggled w margit so much that when morgott came around he scared tf out of me but i was so familiar with his moveset that i just didnt die to him in either of my 2 playthroughs

I love that she used Golden Order incantations. While I fought Morgott he seemed almost transfixed... She kept taking damage for me while I attacked. I think she was a fantastic companion.
i feel its worth mentioning that you can still ashes summon even with her out and that even if she only did 10% of his damage she lasted for almost 4 minutes cause of all that dodging. any tarnished worth a damn can exploit a lot from that situation
Just some lore, the black knight assassins are most likely related to Marika as they are mentioned to be of a tribe/race called Numen which Marika is also said to be part of. Melina is most likely born of Marika and therefor is also from the Numen tribe/race. It's probably why her moveset is so similar to the black knight assassins. All black knights assassins are also females which lines up as well.
Yes, Melina may only capture a tenth of the boss Morgott's health bar ( 1:32) but ifMorgott is focusing on her, instead of you ( like having the mimic ash spirit) ....this situation gives you open to get free shots in this boss fight.
Yup. Did this 1st time. You can find this weapon on your way down to the snow in the elevator shaft, and it shares the black knife moveset. It also has a similar shape so there is definitely a reason for it
IIRC the black knife made from the blade of calling by combining it with a death rune to make it able to kill demigods, which led to the plot starting.

You can get that dagger pretty close to the boss battle. Go to the tower that leads to the snow giants area. Once your on the lift turn around there's a secret door you can jump into on the lift and grab the knife

Ngl as much as I love Elden Ring, for a story with characters with distinct personalities or ambitions, the structure of little screentime from is used to fails at points. If characters had at least 25% more screentime I would've loved it, or had more unique dialouge. Melina being at sites of grace also means she can't react to my Emotes like other maidens 😔

I Actually noticed the summon sign my first time fighting morgott. after i got wasted a few times i touched it to see which npc would be my ally for the fight. as soon as i saw melina i summoned her. not because i needed her persay but because she's best girl

ive seen melina use waterfowl dance before and was baffled by how many moves she has in her kit, but has like hardly any screen time, the npc's you do quest for have more screen time than her

She has an Identical move set and when you go through the Lord of Frenzy ending of the game she vows to bring destined death to you which is what was done to Godwynn.

@@knatspray It's in a hidden room in the elevator shaft by the first snowy mountain area grace. From the bottom of the elevator room, look up and you should see a doorway above that you can enter by riding up the elevator a bit and jumping off. It's difficult to see as it's in the dark and not illuminated but otherwise not all that hard to find.

I think melina was pretty helpful on melee builds discracts the boss enough for you to get some extra hits in, that's really all it took for me to beat him. maybe not dmg that comes from her but is extra dmg caused by her. By then I only had the dog's +3 was more helpful than them XD.
the tree heals you pretty well during the fight, so while she won't carry you (and she shouldn't), she can be very helpful for survivabilty
The fighting in this game honestly looks so sick with the added jumping and different crazy move sets/ precise hitboxes
Take out the precise hitbox part, the hitbox and object collision in this game is lame

@@Alucard_Dead I used a ultra Greatsword and a Greatsword for a good amount of my playthrough and started power stancing normal Greatsword around the end and haven't had issues with my attacks not hitting when they should. I'm not saying that you didn't experience issues because maybe you did, I'm just explaining my experience with the game.
melina is a support and a sub dps.. she can summon a small erdtree that continuously heal you if you're hurt, and she would actually run towards you to do it. as its her job to guide you and support you by any means necessary to become elden lord.

I wonder if there's cut content in game with respect to Melina.
In Three Fingers ending, she warns Tarnished one that if he becomes Elden Lord, she will search for them and kill them. Maybe once upon a time FromSoftware had planned for Melina to be last fight in Three Fingers Ending. Her cut content will also explain why we get so less screen time from her.
You can get her dagger and the text also mentions the destined death line.
Melina is immensely useful in the Morgott fight, honestly. She's a great distraction, and her heals mean you can hold off on estus quite a bit
fun fact: if you summon ashes, she heals those too. I use the rats cause I think they're hilarious and when I saw all 5 health bars going back up i just lost it.

I want to move and play like melina. Despite having a max level character I still dont feel that level of flair and intuitiveness from the combat I can execute. She runs really fast, she has quickstep as her dodge, like four different sword skills, and several spells. I want the game to feel like that.

I think the implementation of something like that would probably be quite difficult. Instead you have a sandbox which allows you to come as close to that fantasy as possible. Fromsoft already tried really hard to give players a lot of options on the limited potential of a controller.

Her using the Black Knife moveset and summoning a mini-Erdtree actually both have huge lore implications, and actually more or less settle it in my mind that she’s a secret daughter of Marika/Radagon. Marika was a Numen, and so were the Nox, and the Black Knives were Nox. She says she was born at the base of the Erdtree, she frequently talks about her mother who entrusted her with a mission, while also implying she wasn’t born from a mother (in contrast to Boc), which implies she was a product of Marika/Radagon’s bizarro, uh, “union.”
My theory is that she’s the secret daughter of Marika’s who was the key to Marika’s ultimate plan to overthrow the Greater Will and permanently end the Golden Order of the Elden Ring. :)
I think she's more like a clone than a daughter.
I like the idea that Melina may be a former member of the Black Knife assassins who broke away from the group to achieve her own objective after being sent out to give the blessing to who ever she was sent to give it to, instead giving it to you in some form of Hail Mary play. Her missing eye may be a part of the BKA rights, giving their eye to would be maidens so that they can gain the power to see the guidance in order to find their targets. Instead, of offering her eye up to the maiden she was meant to feed it to, she could have eaten her own eye and taken others to awaken her own capacity to become a maiden.
Her name means black, so it is at least a tangible thread connecting her to the organization. She never claims to be a maiden herself, but says that she can act as one, and still has one functional eye which sets her apart from any other maiden or maiden prospect we meet. Both those facts support the idea of it being a stolen power, which only serves to make her lack of screen time even more unfortunate, as she probably knows a hell of a lot more about what is going on than she ever says.

So... the likely reason that Melina has the Black Knife moveset is because she's a creation of Marika. Marika is the one who shattered the Elden Ring originally, in her attempt to slay the Elden Beast, and Ranni's creation of the Black Knives was in accordance with that effort. The Black Knives were stated to be female assassins, so it's quite possible that Marika created them as well, Melina may even have been one during those events, with that being the time her body was slain and she was reduced to only being a spirit.

Ranni killed herself to shed the cursemark after it had served its purpose, but Melina also states that her physical body is destroyed, I believe she specifically states that it's burnt. Hence why she accompanies you the way she does and needs your help to reach the tree, like other spirit summons she can't move around without assistance. Only part I'm not sure on is how she got to you in the first place... if her body was tossed into the same grave you are after the intro, or if Torrent somehow acted as her summoner for a time.

honestly would've loved melina to be summoned for multiple bosses, to make it really feel like the two of you were taking on the challenge as a duo, not as an occasional assist. Maybe only when facing Great Rune bosses, or maybe just on certain difficult bosses? IDK, I just really want to see more of her and see how she fits into the story of Elden Ring as a whole.

@@joshduehr2898 the mimic is incredibly tanky so distracts the boss to give you tons of free hits and room to breath and heal. This is true of any summon. Not to mention it does big damage on top of the baseline unbalanced nature of it

There's definitely lore behind how her moveset is similar to the black knife assassin. There's probably a connection between her and destined death, as we can hear her end the frenzied flame ending with that phrase. Ranni's left spirit-face also looks like Melina, and we know Ranni was responsible for the black knife assassin operations. There are connections, but it's impossible to conclude anything from them alone

Well, this certainly makes more sense when you consider who Melina is. Not much is spoken about her, except that if you stray from the path and take the frenzied flame, she will promise you 'Destined Death' once its all over. And considering the weapon she uses, that might not be too farfetched.

and not only did she get the last shot but she takes his attention off you which i think is the main point of summons
She probably part of the Erd tree itself, just a partially that basically turn into human form after reviving the character from the beginning where that little yellow spark landed on the hand and woken the warrior
Honestly it would be cool if in the future modders would allow the player to play as other npcs. Cause most of the time besides Alexander, they can drink their flask, do their weapon skills and even dodge roll.
Most npcs are just characters fromsoftware created in the chatcater creator and stick up in the game. That's why cosplay builds are so popular. If you get those 2 daggers she is using and made a faces that looks like hers (I'm sure the sliders of her face will get datamined eventually) you would be pretty much playing as her. The only thing I see she has that is special is her special roll animation that is more of a bloodborne side step.
@@walabixha1746 Her face and moveset are both custom--as in, not replicable through normal means. There really would have to be a mod for it unless FROM just unexpectedly adds Blaidd and Melina's animations in the DLC, which I don't think they ever will because it would be too fun. >:(

i feel its worth mentioning that you can still ashes summon even with her out and that even if she only did 10% of his damage she lasted for almost 4 minutes cause of all that dodging.
any tarnished worth a damn can exploit a lot from that situation
she wasn't available the first playthrough because the update from soft put out recently let's you summon her now, and various others to other bosses
ranni and melina both have one closed eye and both are apparently (based on Melina's moveset) intertwined with the Black Knives
Just some lore, the black knight assassins are most likely related to Marika as they are mentioned to be of a tribe/race called Numen which Marika is also said to be part of. Melina is most likely born of Marika and therefor is also from the Numen tribe/race.
It's probably why her moveset is so similar to the black knight assassins. All black knights assassins are also females which lines up as well.
Yes, Melina may only capture a tenth of the boss Morgott's health bar ( 1:32) but ifMorgott is focusing on her, instead of you ( like having the mimic ash spirit) ....this situation gives you open to get free shots in this boss fight.

Yup. Did this 1st time. You can find this weapon on your way down to the snow in the elevator shaft, and it shares the black knife moveset. It also has a similar shape so there is definitely a reason for it
IIRC the black knife made from the blade of calling by combining it with a death rune to make it able to kill demigods, which led to the plot starting.

You can get that dagger pretty close to the boss battle. Go to the tower that leads to the snow giants area. Once your on the lift turn around there's a secret door you can jump into on the lift and grab the knife
